Dynasty Warriors 8 + XL (PS3) / CE (PSV/PS4) |OT| Don't Pursue Lu Bu (In Next Gen)

Sometimes I wonder if more is really better, though I do not know if it was not a problem with the ps360 version, since I only really played DW2 and Gundam 3 before going DW8/PS4. Sometimes I wish I could see my character more clearly/at all (those damn banner guys).

Eh, that's more of a camera control issue. It's be nice if it wasn't so sticky.

Just broke my Twitch and Dynasty Warriors cherries, one of the three viewers said i was doing well, which made my day. Game is fun, I have no idea what I'm doing though.

Got to a stage with some fire on the Vita version and my Vita didn't catch on fire!

I'm getting pretty used to the Vita version. It's pretty good, the slowdowns aren't too terrible and not completely what I'm used to. I think calling the horse (via touching the screen) is a bit clunky compared to the PS3's and I'm not a complete big fan of activating rage mode but I'll live with that.

I rather like how all the new characters play as well.

Picked this up on PS4 digital and really like the way it's looking so far. May hold off til there's a download for the Japanese voices though. I never did like the dub and it feels really out of place after playing the first few DW games with original voices + subs.

I'm sure it's been posted somewhere between these pages but if anyone has been playing the Vita version how is it? How does it look and run?

I went through Wei story mode and am halfway through Shu on vita, its not quite as bad as that video destruction shot I posted earlier in the week.

I did completely avoid using Xiahou Yuan the entire time after, since he was known in Ancient China for being able to destroy handhelds in a single attack

So what is the vanilla dw8 dlc situation on vita? Do we just need to wait for them to update it all to support vita? Nothing seems to be up at the moment.

No idea what's up with this- not even the Japanese versions have all the DLC that was released for DW8 on PS3 yet. Huge amount of stuff missing on PS4.

Gotta wait until they upload them again for CE.

Based off the Gamestop's preorder costumes, it looks like they'll be a new set different from vanilla 8 and XL's DLC set.

They did claim it would be free if we already bought them, so hopefully Koei doesn't mess this up.

Gonna go buy Xtreme Legends today, but a few questions just to clarify a few things:

* Since the game's out, if I have the original DW8 digitally, I can buy XL's physical release and transfer the save data, correct?

* How worthwhile is the XL upgrade, since it's like full price? I beat Amibition Mode in DW8 Vanilla and a decent amount of plotlines, all the main ones and I only had like a few hypothetical stages left, will there be plenty of new content left?

Which platform are you getting it on?

PS3 does the same with DW7XL by reading your save game at the start and creating a new save game from it. Don't know if Remix (where putting in your DW8 disc after starting DW8XL) works for digital DW8.

Other platforms you can upload to cloud on your vanilla DW8 and download it when you load up XL.

EDIT: really miss the Jap voices. Not all english lines are voiced again.

They added a kinda like Empires mode to Ambition mode after you clear it, so there's that. No idea how long it is.

They added a Lu Bu story mode and added I would say about 5 or so additional what-if story stages for each kingdom.

There's also the return of challenge mode and now each stage has objectives to reach if you play them in Free Mode.

Now that I played it, do I still have to have both DW8 and DW8XL both installed to have both content, so I need to keep like 40 gigs for DW8 complete?

Cheng Gong is pretty tight, Ancient Chinese Stand User.

Do the other New Characters appear in the normal Story Routes as playable, or only in the new additional What If Chapters?

I don't think any of the playable character choices were changed for the story mode chapters that were in original DW8.

Alright have my PS4 copy! Anything I should know if I'm new to musou games? o:

Don't pursue Lu Bu lol

You might think this is a joke, but they're serious. Lu Bu will mess your stuff up the first time you fight him.

The best way to learn the game is to go through story mode and try out the characters. It's not too difficult (Lu Bu aside) on the default difficulty.

There's a weapon system in place you should learn too. The basic gist of it is that Red weapons beat Blue weapons, Blue weapons beat Green weapons, and Green weapons beat read weapons. You'll see a gem icon (representing their defense) above the enemy's head if you're using the right weapon type, and an exclamation mark if you're using the wrong weapon.

bad gameplay lol
So I still haven't found a 100% definitive answer on this yet: If I have digital DW8 (PS3) and get digital XL, can I delete vanilla DW8 after it's verified? There's no way I'm eating up 40GB of my HDD for DW8. :lol

Now that I played it, do I still have to have both DW8 and DW8XL both installed to have both content, so I need to keep like 40 gigs for DW8 complete?

Why can't anyone answer this? :(

Can anybody explain me. Ambition Mode in XL is similar to Empires mode? Or it's just bare fights for teritories, without diplomacy and stuff?

If it's anything like 7 you're gonna have to keep both. Unless you don't care about playing dw8's content. Pretty sure saves will transfer but the vanilla game's content won't stay permanent.

Even if both are digital? 'Cause XL already includes all of vanilla's content. There's literally no reason to have to keep vanilla around once it's verified. You can't sell digital games, so XL shouldn't have to do mixjoy more than once.

The A.I. seems more advanced this time around (probably to go along with the three bodyguards thing).

Like my allies actually seem to be somewhat competent as they're following me to the next goal, and I see them actually taking down foes.

And then on the enemy side, I notice they regularly switch weapons when they're at a disadvantage, I don't recall them ever doing that in Vanilla.

There's no fighting for territories - you don't get a map to conquer at all. Instead, you have your town/camp that you have to upgrade in order to get the Emperor to relocate his court to your town. You do this by fighting in random battles that are specialised to reward you with either materials, allies or fame (which is needed for recruiting more allies, which are in turn needed for constructing the more advanced buildings). After each battle you can either return to camp and cash your winnings, or keep doing successive battles to increase the rewards. There's no real strategy to any of this, unfortunately, it's just a grind, but online play adds something to it.

I would kill for a RotK style game with DW battles, but this isn't it, or anywhere near close.

That's the original Ambition mode.

XL/CE added I guess a post-game mode or whatever after you complete the original Ambition mode by adding in this whole take over China bit.

The amount of content on the PS4 version is frightening. It's going to be forever completing all of the story modes before I can go wild, level up and weapon collect in free mode.

I wonder why they never tried to make a single Empires game like that. I understand that they likely want to keep it simple of the DW audience and such, but it's odd that they didn't experiment even once in spite of so many games...

Yeah, when I basically sold my friend on the game when he started it up his mind as blown as to how much content there was. He also hasn't played DW since DW3 I think as well so I still think he made an awesome choice.

Also for Shu's Hypothetical Route, I'm having a lot of trouble just... Advancing the objectives I guess. At some point the AI will be stuck in a loop where they just run around in circles and won't move on unless I somehow just push them. I got past that, but now I got to a part after you defeat Jia Xu where the game won't even open the gate. I've left it for 5 minutes now and it still hasn't advanced the battle. Specifically this part:

God damn it I've done this like 3 times now and it still hasn't worked. I guess I'll play as Guan Xing instead since he's the only one with different objectives and is elsewhere on the map.

If i remember correctly that gate won't open until Guan Xing reaches the area that is green on the minimap in the screenshot.

Any patch yet for the sound issues while recording/streaming?

I hope we don't have to wait too long. The game is pretty amazing, but this issue, the inability to invite cross-system, and the DOF problem are all hampering my enjoyability of the title.

Plus, it's not fun for the ten or so regular streams I get to have to listen to a mute game. :p

What does "cross-platform play" mean in this game's case? Can a player on the Vita coop with someone on a PS4 or PS3? Online?

In theory, all three versions of the game (PS3, PS4, and Vita) can play with each other over the internet. Right now it's bugged however and you can't send specific invites out, only the Join/Recruit options work.
