If I'm not mistaken if it's the PAL version it's probably 50hz only.

ran away like a peon. it worked though.
so is there a mode i can grind in and come back to the current campaign with upgrades? Free Mode? Or just replay stages? Not sure how to unlock branching paths even though it explains the conditions.
Do you have a lot of Velocity on her weapon? Sometimes in Musou games you can speed up the characters' attacks so much that it gets to a point where it's hard to properly control their attacks.Dumb beginner question but here we go. I'm doing Ambition Mode and am using Xingcai. What got me through a lot of fights, is her Square, square, triangle, triangle, triangle combo where she always went batshit and slashed at the air like crazy doing great damage.
Then she just...stopped. Now when I do the same exact combo she just...doesn't do the crazy slashes anymore. What triggers that?
Can AI people switch their weapons to take that advantage away if they can? I've definitely seen baddies with blue signs over their heads, suddently turning Red while I'm still holding the same weapon.
The plot isn't super hard to follow, though it does jump around considerably and there are probably too many characters to make anything anyone says or does meaningful to me. A lot of people talking about their ambition, blah blah.
- I am totally confused by the weapon selection interface. I never know if a certain character should use a certain weapon or if I'm out to swap them around. Then when I do swap them around, the game just has "compatibility" and no easy-to-see measure of strength from what I can tell.
- Wouldn't this game benefit from having some type of strategy overlay grafted onto it? I'm thinking of something like Kessen. You would have these skirmishes for individual battles, but it would be interesting to direct the armies/groups of armies on some big giant map for a massive battle.
- The basic combat loops are satisfying. The weapons feel unique and distinct. Can't help but wonder if they could improve things by making the AI more aggressive and giving the player more dodge/parry options
Even with the variety and the loop being satisfied, I don't know that I could play a 20-30 hr game of this. It's not that I don't like it or don't enjoy it, but at least so far it seems a bit...I don't know, brainless? What am I missing there?
How do you tell which weapon is ex enabled again?Nah, weapon selection is all preference. For example, people like me prefer to use only a character's EX-enabled weapon. Just remember to keep two different weapon types equipped (heaven/earth, earth/man, man/heaven).
For strategy added, please see the Empires subtitled games.
Enemies on higher difficulties DO pose more of a threat because they can actually kill you if you're not careful. DW4 had a parry, but in practice, it was pretty limited when fighting groups (stupidly-good when fighting the duels, though).

Call me cheesy, but it may be, uh, the love. I've been playing Dynasty Warriors since I was 12 or 13 (on a friend's PS2, co-op with that friend). Dynasty Warriors is one of the few constants in gaming, and seeing the iterative changes with every entry is like seeing an old friend and catching up with them, shooting the shit, committing genocide.
My observations so far. I just played a mission as Cao Cao where you....god, I can't remember anyone's name. Anyway some guy invites you to hispalace so he can betray you with the evil Strategist and your big fat right hand man dies.

- There's a surprising amount of variety for a game where you'd imagine the primary mechanic is hitting square. Lots of different mission encounter types, bosses with different weapons, different level layouts, etc.

- There was one mission when I was escorting the Emperor in a carriage when Lu Bu showed up and I actually DID beat him. I guess that doesn't count as pursuing him!
For me, this is what I look forward to when picking up a new DW title. Koei's made each character have a distinct personality loosely based, or even completely separate, of their historical figure. It's nice to see each title evolve them a bit further (DW7 Cao Cao was a really nice treat if you were used to DW3-5 Cao Cao) or have them do things when they aren't constrained to the "script" (Warriors Orochi games are great for this).
And for someone like me with no home systems apart from PC, Wii, and Wii U, getting a content-perfect numbered Dynasty Warriors game is a special treat. The last Warriors game I played was Next, which, while pretty good, was bogged down by Vita garbage. Prior to that, Samurai Warriors Chronicles, a very good game in itself. I also played pretty much every localized Samurai/Dynasty/Orochi/Strikeforce game on the PSP. I haven't played a numbered entry since... DW4? DW5? So this is a momentous occasion. Hope Vita gets that framerate patch soon, though.
I really want to play with my friend who has a PS3, though. Can he just buy vanilla DW8, generate a save file, then sell off vanilla DW8? He's not looking forward to buying both vanilla and XL when the costs are still prohibitive over here. The chart in the OP seems to support this:
Also, I am nearing the weapon limit. Which weapons are safe to sell off? Are first weapons with no abilities okay to sell? I only have Reforge, and very few weapon materials.

Asides from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Nobunagas Ambition series Koei for the most part has kinda abandoned the more experimental strategy titles.
They have not even made another Kessen in like forever. Kessen III was fantastic. Really wished that they would release that and the others on PSN...

I've always found fighting Lu Bu on Wei's storyline easy, it's only on Shu that I've had a problem.
Pretty much just sell anything that is low damage + no stats / wont use.
always look up the description of the skills, because there's 2 weapon attritubes with the SAME NAME but different bonuses. which is hella weird and a screwup imo.
Is this normal or am I doing something incredibly wrong ?
Just finish Shu story mode and man I love the Shu kingdom. They also have so much fun playable characters during the story Yueying, Xing Cai, Xu Shu, Guan Yu, Liu Bei, Guan Yingping.
The battle of Fan Castle during historical route, reminded me of what happened in One Piece during the Marineford war.when Guan Yu dies standing
I wished I got into the DW games sooner, I have a question, are the Gundam and One Piece DW games worth getting? Fan of both series and plan on picking up both, DW: Gundam 3 and Pirate Warriors 2, just wanted to know if they are worth picking up.
What weapon attribute is that, mesmerMAN?
It was Aggression in 8 , but in Extreme Legends they changed Attack up if both weapons have the same Affinity to be Harmony instead and the other one remains Aggression (I think its Attack up, defense down one).

Now, what I need it just PS2 Classics of RotK X and my life will be complete.
Don't get the first One Piece game. That game is terrible. The second one is leagues better, fixing almost everything wrong with the first one and improving gameplay across the board.well if the combat system in DW8 doesnt bore you then yes it uses the same core mechanic in both Gundam and One Piece, get both One Pieve games (1 follows the story, 2 is a new unique story) as for Gundam, get 3 and maybe the new one

When you're selecting what weapon type you want, the little picture of the weapon will have an EX next to it.
Also, each weapon does have a damage rating. It sounded like you didn't notice it from your other post.
Warriors Orochi 3 is great. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate) has the most content, and it's coming for PS4 in June in Japan. If it gets localized, get it instead of Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper. Finally had a chance to have an hour or so playing this today and i'm loving it so far. I've always been intrigued by the games but never had a system to play them on until recently. So far i've only cleared the 4 tutorials and started the Wei campaign.
On a similar note i have these in my wishlist are they worth getting down the line?
Samurai Warriors 3 (Wii)
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (Wii)
Warriors Orochi 3: Hyper (Nintendo Wii U)
One Piece Unlimited World Red (Nintendo Wii U)
Where do you see the damage rating?
That means you have to equip the weapon to see the attack rating. That's what I thought. I was surprised by that.
I don't think so, doesn't that info show up when you just select it? I'd have to check honestly.
Playing through a battle on Wu yesterday and about 20 minutes in after completing most of my mission objectives the game crashed on me. It gave me some error code and invited me to share the problem with Playstation but was mostly just disheartening because I lost all the progress and will of course have to do that one over.
Are crashes common with DW8 on PS4?
Basically the game is set up where every single character has their own weapon class, the one with an EX by it. If you hit R1 when selecting a weapon you can filter out all the others to only show their EX weapons (It'll say Favorite Weapon for the filter). How do you tell which weapon is ex enabled again?
The weapon system allows you to use other weapons besides just the characters EX (unlike basically how all the previous games were where everyone only could use their weapons). This is where the compatibility system comes into place. Each weapon class falls into one of 4 categories: Dash, Dive, Shadow Sprint or Whirlwind. A character will always have 4 stars in whatever category their EX weapon is. Higher compatibility increases the weapons attack rating (from +2 to +10) and at 4 stars you can that category's specific action:

When you equip weapons you first choose the weapon class (Podao, Axe, Horsehair Whip, etc...). Then when you select that, you get to choose the weapon itself (IE: Pick Podao, then you have all the Podaos you've collected and can choose the one to equip). It is here where you see the Attack strength and all the Elements on it.That means you have to equip the weapon to see the attack rating. That's what I thought. I was surprised by that.
I'd suggest just using the Ex weapon for your main weapon whenever you try a new character out, and using the second weapon to pick whichever weapon you've enjoyed using the most so far. As you get more indepth with the game and start playing on the higher difficulties, then you can find weapons that work well together with their switch attacks to allow fancy combos and/or you can start building weapons with different elements combinations for specific situations (IE: high musou gain w/ increased musou attack damage for musou spamming, recovery + defensive elements to use when your health runs low, slash + thunder + induction + lighting etc... for large elemental damage).
it takes some allure from lvl 5 weapons when you can make a lv3 weapon stronger than them :C

Heh, or you know use Halberd and C2 all the way
Bonus if you are Lu Bu

Just saw this, if DW7 is any indication, to play any DW8 content, you need the DW8 vanilla disc to do the remix mode.
