E3 2008 Nintendo Conference

Pseudo_Sam said:
Lulz, I'm not selling my Wii. Developers are finally starting to get it, and anyone who gives up now will be missing out on a lot of potentially awesome games. Mad World, The Conduit, de Blob, plus the other unannounced titles from Nintendo's dream team of developers, not to mention a strong likelihood of Pikmin 3...

The conference may have sucked, but E3 is just beginning...

Keep the dream alive.

Good job!

This is extremely depressing. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo, the Wii, and motion control. I own about 30 Wii games. There was nothing here for me today except Animal Crossing and it looked like almost no effort had been put into even that. I've spent more time playing my Wii than my PS3 (which is more or less just a blu-ray player for me), but now, I don't know what I'll play. It seems like no one is making games for me. Good gaming times are not ahead.

I'm not going to defend how painfully dull and inane this was, but I think this is consistent with Nintendo's new strategy: only announce hardcore games like Wario Land a few months before their release.

You know, to everyone in here talking about selling their Wii, please do it. Sell it. Make some money. Let someone who wants one have a shot at it. Maybe they'll enjoy it more, and maybe you can take the money you make and buy something you are interested in.

Guys, guys. Try being calm and rational. Nintendo obviously has a lot more games in their line up. There's a FF, MW, new retro game, new tales, and tons more... Nintendo E3 conferences are no longer for you guys. You can find the information for those games on your own just fine, so it's wasted effort on Nintendo's part, and they know it, so focus at E3 has shifted. Just remember, the games you want ARE coming... just not for E3. This is nothing more than complain over appearances. Relax. Well, everyone should knock the bejeesus out of Wii Music, because that looks like trash, but otherwise just relax.

Nintendo is doing exactly what it needs to do, they weren't saved by the "hardcore" the last two gens, they owe "us" nothing. They found their market and they are going for the chokehold. Why center your conference on veteran gamers who are now the minority, when you can make Wii Resort and gain so much more goodwill from the mainstream press?

I'll say this, if I was running Nintendo, I would do exactly the same, and I'm sure none of you would do any different

This is like the Republic putting all their trust into Senator Palpatine.

And that motherfucker just initiated Order 66 on the Jedi Council of gaming.

I dont even know where im going with this. Fuck Nintendo.

agreed, at the risk of sounding like and overblowing fanboy. i am seriously considering selling my Wii now.

I had mine boxed up ready to sell but I waited incase there was good stuff at E3....tomorrow it'll be on Ebay.

So basically:

Microsoft: What is this boring piece of sh... WHAT THE FUCK?! MEGATON!!!
Nintendo: What is this boring piece of shit...?
Sony: ???????????

Where are those disturbing, super dedicated Nintendo fan boy man-babies?

You know Nintendo has had a bad event when even they don't parachute into a thread to ramble on in a derranged way about how Animal Crossing is hardcore and post screenshots of Conduit.

and they have no one to blame for this image but themselves.

but do they even give a shit about there image now?
to the mainstream they are gold right now
-family friendly
-cheap
-easy to play

from a business standpoint they are brilliant, I doubt Reggie gives a shit about his image while rolling in his new Bently on 24's

The degree of overreaction in this thread is comparable only to the degree of the overreaction in the Too Human demo thread. Both sucked, to be sure, but you people treat mediocrity like it killed your fucking dog.

This is NeoGAF.

That was a pretty uninspiring lineup for 2008 to announce. I would never sell my Wii though because it already has some games I really love and will have some good games in the future as well. Speaking purely of 2008 though, I'm glad I'm a multi-console owner.

This. The hardcore bleating in this thread is getting old. As if Nintendo's "new" mainstream direction came as some kind of megaton surprise at this conference.

I can see what hardcore gamers would be disappointed. Nothing other than GTA was even worth mentioning for a gamer who wants to be challenged. But they did make a big play for their casual audience.

This is GAF, of course not. People hype unbelievable shit up here and when it doesn't show they throw their tantrums and dummy spits and wonder why such-and-such company has forsaken them, as if they are the only reliable source of income for said company.

Then there's shit that happens on the fly that people don't expect, and people still cry over it (FFXIII anyone?)

It's getting pretty sad, to be honest. I feel kind of ashamed to be a gamer after today and yesterday. Obviously MS had a better conference than Nintendo, but if you don't get what Nintendo's press conferences are about now, you shouldn't be posting. You should have expected this. It's no one's fault but your own if YOU hype up shit in your head.

But I at least understand why people can be DISAPPOINTED (though shitting on Nintendo is completely stupid -- you know what the Wii is about, you have for a long time).

But people yesterday were actually saying the MS conference was shit, until the very end, when in fact it was awesome. They showed off demos of great looking hardcore games, showed off a new dashboard, then went into some casual games, then RPGs and FF13.

Yet you had people saying "OMG THIS IS HORRIBLE WORSE THAN SONY 06" even right before FF13, based specifically on the casual games. Never mind how fun of a party game that film game looks, you people who aren't into that kind of stuff were then writing off everything shown before.

Hardcore gamers are turning into whiny crybabies. That was proven yesterday.

People think that Nintendo will ONLY release the games that they showed at E3... please.

but I just wanted a pikmin 3 teaser :_(

If you didn't see this coming, you haven't been paying attention.

Nintendo is making bajillions of dollars appealing to the polar opposite of GAF. You. Do. Not. Matter.

Nintendo fans need to realize exactly what brought Nintendo back to the top, and how horrible they were when they were at the top before. So none of this should surprise you. I just hope you all learned your lesson and will stop trying to argue with rational legitimate gamers about how much you pretend to like their casualized garbage.

Look, I can understand how anyone who frequents this board would think this conference sucked, and I can also agree that no hardcore gamer could or should survive on Wii alone.

However, as a multi-format hardcore gamer I find that there is still fun to be had with the Wii and Nintendo. I just picked up Mario Kart Wii and have been having a great time with it. Is it my primary console? No. Is it worth owning? Unquestionably yes, IMO.

I think that many have hit the nail on the head by saying "The Wii is primarily not for us. i.e. gamers" However, by hating on/totally refusing to play a Wii or making Nintendo a hated brand people are just being short-sighted and cheating themselves out of some fun games, few and far between as they are.

The Wii and it's casual focus is what it is. I don't hate them for what they have become. I've got two other sources for my hardcore fix, and Nintendo still comes out with a great game for everyone (even hardcores) every once in a while that makes me happy to have the system. It's not a requirement, to be sure. But it just seems like some of you are on some kind of anti-casual crusade, filled with bitterness at what Nintendo is doing to "your" hobby/industry. It's childish and stupid, and you all sound like little whiny babies.

It was a OK conference...I was hoping for atleast 1 hardcore gamee and especially a storage solution but oh well...:\

Wii Music and Wi Sports Resort both look awsome.

But Animal Crossing...thats all I needed...

But something about this picture seems off....

Wii-Speak_1216141809.jpg

A WiiSpeak connected to a Wii which is looks like its connecting to another Wii...? Is that a Hard Drive?!

probally not...:(

Oh well I probally wont be buying stuff on the Shop Channel anymore...

No Kirby Wii, no Pikmin, no rumored Retro Studios game and not a word from NST, Tokyo EAD or Zelda team. Hm.
Time to hand in your jacket like the rest of the crew.

Why get rid of your Wii? Didn't you enjoy Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3, Zelda and few others? Not to mention the WiiWare games and VC games. Also just because nothing good was announced this time doesn't mean nothing good will ever be announced. A new Zelda IS inevitable, just give it time.

That said, I haven't played my Wii since Mario Galaxy came out....

Wow, I'll NEVER consider selling my Wii. At least not 'til a backwards-compatible Wii 2 is released.

It already has a pretty awesome little collection of gems in its catalog, it'd be a real shame to no longer have access to that. Not to mention the future games (the stuff we haven't heard about yet, obviously).

That's what really frustrates me about Nintendo. Casual gamers aren't watching this! My mom isn't calling me every two minutes going "are you seeing all the awesome shit Nintendo's puttin' out!" NO! Jeebus, throw me a fuckin' bone will you! I mean sure I'll be buying Resort but am I peeing my pants for it? No, I'm not. The next Call Of Duty game, on Wii? That's what I'm supposed to be excited about? Hello?! If I want it I'll get it for my 360 or PS3 where it'll actually look good (although, for a Wii game, I thought it looked pretty good). HELLO!!! Is anybody out there at Nintendo actually listening? What's-her-name asks Reggie "what about the hardcore gamer?" and Reggie's like "Animal Crossing!" Man o' Christ what planet am I on!

No, but there are lots of newspapers journalists attending E3 and the press conference who are tomorrow going to report on this.

Still no storage solution?? WTF?? Why even HAVE USB ports on the damn thing?

Its so I can plug my rechargeable xbox 360 controller to it. Seriously, thats how I do it since my 360 doesn't stay on when I'm not using it.
