E3 2008 Nintendo Conference

Gary Whitta said:
This. The hardcore bleating in this thread is getting old. As if Nintendo's "new" mainstream direction came as some kind of megaton surprise at this conference.

That, and I also don't want more bigmak***** people running around with a Wii feeling the need to troll it in every Wii-related thread, only to use the 'but I own one!' defense. Fuck that shit. Don't want it? Sell it. Get something you do want and don't troll future Wii threads; that shit happens enough already.

Pheeeewwww...sooo fucking glad I own a 360 too.

Any Wii only owners? Speak up please :lol :lol :lol
We can't, we're busy writhing in a corner while crying uncontrollably :lol

Okay, this conference was a little disappointing, but not shocking. I don't care about Animal Crossing, so their "big" title is lost on me. But the "OH MY GOD SELLING MY WII" stuff is overblown too. I'm still excited for Wario Land Shake and curious to see how Wii Music turns out.

I guess I'm more disappointed in the lack of new Nintendo stuff announced for DS. US releases of Rhythm Tengoku and Cooking Guide are nice, but I was hoping for some big new announcement for the DS.

EDIT: oh yeah, and I predict I'm going to get pretty fucking bored of terms like casual and core gamer by the end of the day.

I think people are perhaps dismissing some of Nintendo's E3 offerings this year for their fans.

After all, the legions of Nintendo fanboys did predict that Sadness would have a big presence at NIntendo's E3 conference.......

.....and they were right.

I think that many have hit the nail on the head by saying "The Wii is primarily not for us. i.e. gamers" However, by hating on/totally refusing to play a Wii or making Nintendo a hated brand people are just being short-sighted and cheating themselves out of some fun games, few and far between as they are.

But I do own a Wii, and the reason I own it came out. Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime III. They were totally rad. And I had a few bonuses along the way Super Paper Mario, Endless Ocean and Boom Blox.

But if this is the future, I see no reason for us to NOT react exactly like this. Since this is a message board for hardcore gamers, and most of us who aren't hypocrites don't have a tolerance for such bullshit.

i can assure you, it was not the golden age for how they treated developers.

I thought you were referring to the quality of games released during those eras, not their treatment of developers.

So...Microsoft announces a bunch of casual stuff.

Nintendo does not announce anything for the 'core' gamer.

WTF is happening here?

And was it just me, or was the conference more of the same "hey 3rd parties, we're selling a lot of consoles, we finally have 1:1, come make games for our system!" ... ?

Wait, is this true? Did this really just happen on G4??????

Morgan Webb: So Reggie what do you have to say to harcore gamers who might feel left out by you at this point?

Reggie: How can you possibly feel left out. We've got Animal Crossing with voice chat fully hooked up the internet, and Grand Theft Auto on the DS, so how can you possibly feel left out?

:lol :lol :lol :lol

It can't be true. Must be a fake Reggie.

So basically:

Microsoft: What is this boring piece of sh... WHAT THE FUCK?! MEGATON!!!
Nintendo: What is this boring piece of shit...?
Sony: ???????????

Haha pretty much, can't wait for Sony.

I hate to be one of those people but as someone who's put years of effort into just being competent on a real wind instrument, I can't help but see WiiMusic as an insulting mockery.

It was a OK conference...I was hoping for atleast 1 hardcore gamee and especially a storage solution but oh well...:\

Wii Music and Wi Sports Resort both look awsome.

...

No. No they don't.

Frisbee!?!?! That's how you introduce your new peripheral!?!?!?!?!

And a music game that has you basically shaking your controller to play out pretty much predetermined music!? WTF!?!?!

Im surprised they showed so little for wii...

not even a montage of upcoming games or anything.

nothing related to:

mario sluggers
wario
gh4
rb2
fatal frame
force unleashed
no wii ware

not even any of the rumors
kid icarus
retro project
punch out
mad word
mh3

all they showed was
rrr3
cod5
star wars clone wars
wii music
animal crossing
snow boarding
wii sports 2
kh3?

very strange conference.... i dont even know what the purpose of it was....
they really didnt even try to hype the wii up... and i guess they dont need to...

so little of the upcoming games were shown.... and not an announcement for a core franchise...

the ds was still pretty meager...
no fire emblem or any other upcoming games except for gta and guitar hero?

Really poor...

I was mainly trying to say Nintendo is always going to find a way to fuck up monumentally to some group of people. This time it's gamer's, last time it was developers. It's what we get with Nintendo.

But at least if you're grandma, we are alright

The argument is always: THIS ISNT 4 U IDIOT.

FUCK YES THIS IS FOR ME.

If you for a second think that this isn't OUR medium, then you might as well fucking abandon it now, but I'm not going to watch my 20 years of gaming be crucified on the handle-bars of a Wii Sports Resort Jet Ski.

Entertainment on NeoGAF is directly proportional to the failure to do so at these conferences. :lol

This thread is like a giant hyperbole money shot. Only the combination of gamers and the internet could produce something this ridiculous.

sony better keep it gully. thats all im saying.

do not abandon us, sony.

I was thinking of selling my Wii but wanted to wait till E3. Now this made my decision pretty easy.

As has already been said, someone who has more interest in the motion and casual games will be able to enjoy it and I'll have more cash for other stuff.
like iPhone games <_<

That pretty much wraps it up for the known Wii ______ games. All the demos from 2006 except the Airplane/Pilotwings thing have been made into games.

Wii Bowling/Tennis/Baseball/etc -> Wii Sports
Wii Motorsports -> Wii Sports Resort
Wii Music -> Wii Music
Wii Health Pack (never shown but always known) -> Wii Fit

They'll either have to start making sequels to these games next year or start making new Wii ______ titles. I had a meeting to go to, so I missed the conference. Doesn't sound like I missed much though. Was looking forward to seeing how Wii Music turned out at the very least.

Also, I hate to play the "wait until" card, but you really have to be foolish to think this is all Nintendo's doing. Nintendo's found out that their claim to success at E3 is to reveal casual software that the mainstream media will lap up. Worked with Wii Sports, worked with Wii Fit, will probably work with this show too.

Hardcore gamers are turning into whiny crybabies. That was proven yesterday.
I'm glad there are people reading this thread with at least the same sensibilities as my own.

If you didn't see this coming, you haven't been paying attention.

Nintendo is making bajillions of dollars appealing to the polar opposite of GAF. You. Do. Not. Matter.
I've been pointing it out weeks ago but all I got was angry responses.

This is like the Republic putting all their trust into Senator Palpatine.

And that motherfucker just initiated Order 66 on the Jedi Council of gaming.

I dont even know where im going with this. Fuck Nintendo.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Don't ever change

the stuff that they announced

Wii sports 2
Animal Crossing Wii
Wii Music

actually are pretty decent

but man

thats it..?

three first party games ?? with Wario not even mentioned and Cap Rainbow vaguely on the horizon... seriously what the..

Holy bubbling dog diarrhea. I was looking forward to Nintendo's press conference the most. Jesus, that was BAD. It was basically the equivalent of watching a guy fellate himself for an hour straight. Only it was on a corporate level.

After Microsoft's average press conference and Nintendo's piece of trash conference, I think I'm going to take up reading and sell all of my video games.

~Dac

I feel like some of you are overreacting somewhat.

However, as a multi-format hardcore gamer I find that there is still fun to be had with the Wii and Nintendo. I just picked up Mario Kart Wii and have been having a great time with it. Is it my primary console? No. Is it worth owning? Unquestionably yes, IMO.
Well, yes, it is worth owning. However, regardless of what you want to play on the Wii, they just didn't show enough of ANYTHING new this time. Their conference was simply disappointing.

Gary, you're getting annoying too as much as these guys are annoying you. Their mainstream direction isn't new, but their shit software is.

Wii Sports was fun. Wii Fit didn't appeal to me but the balance board seemed interesting at least. Wii Music seems mildly retarded. I can't picture getting ANY of my family or friends to play it, while they all loved Wii Bowling and somewhat Wii Golf. Wii Resort looks mixed, but why the **** would they showcase throwing a frisbee..wait...why the **** would they even put that shit in the game to begin with as part of something you pay for? Saying " hey guys, were you surprised they are going mainstream focused more and more" doesn't apply to the abominations we've seen here today.

The thing is that Nintendo seem to have totally changed how they do a E3 press conference. They for some reason don't want to scare away the casual media out there (USA Today, ABC, NSB etc. etc.) who are tomorrow and this evening going to report on this conference.

All you people telling me that Nintendo is not FOR ME anymore can go eat my ass.

Every show they at least throw me a bone. Every time they announce Wii Fit, they announce a new core IP to go along with it. They always do that. And I have no problem with it. I buy Mario Galaxy, I ignore Wii Fit. That's my agreement with Nintendo and I don't care if they make Wii Poop.

But THIS....not one new game for core gamers. Not one new Wii Ware announcement. Nothing even slipped into the press kit.

Nintendo is my old friend who doesn't even want to be seen with me anymore. And if you are okay with that, then what the fuck did you like Nintendo for in the first place?

Go ahead and defend this all you want, but Nintendo better announce some stuff soon.

I just got home like 20 mins ago. Can someone give a quick summary of the general reaction to the conference? I read the OP and am in the process of checking out the new announcements... but what's the overall sentiment like?

edit, WOW just read the last page. That bad?

Of all the people in this thread threatening to sell their Wiis, I predict approximately zero of them will actually do it.

Come on, people. You're being silly.

IWATA said something about EAD Tokyo and the Zelda team working on something

that cannot be wii music, wii sports resort or Animal Crossing right... ?

Thats the point

AT LEAST GIMME A FRIGGIN BONE

Whoah, mehgaton! At least Wii Sports Resort was pretty cool (Wave Race-minigame woohoo!), Wii Music too, and GTA:Chinatown Wars was rather huge. Animal Crossing : City Folk was nice, but rather known already and not really jaw dropping.

Personally I was just hoping for -something- to buy in the future for Wii - right now it's just a mild interest in the new Wario game and that didn't change after this. :/

It's sad that my most anticipated game is a WiiWare game that's also multiplatform (MM9)

I'm a huge gamer, and a huge nintendo fan (though not a fanboy). Currently a Wii60 owner.

I don't see how any of you can be anything but utterly disappointed and/or laughing at that joke of a presentation. It was horrible by even Nintendo standards.

I agree with you- I find it impossible to believe that Nintendo is going to go into the Holiday season with that piss poor of a lineup. That said, I don't see anything on the press site, and I don't think there are any other events planned this week, so for gamers, this E3 sucks.

Worst conference EVER!

Nintendo is all about the casuals. Lure in the core gamers at launch with some nintendo favourites, bury the market with casual crap. Casual crap sells tons, core gamers can fuck off, Nintendo's got new friends and they're buying in droves.

All Sony has to do now is have a R2 walkthrough and they already surpasses this tripe by far :lol

:lol

You know I was one of those people that was pissed off at MS for trying to get in the games industry. THANK GOD THEY DID!

With sonys cock-ups and nintendo marketing to my mom without MS we would all be doomed. Or just get a new hobby.

Awesome, 100% agreed.

What's really funny is the exact same thing happened last year.:lol

*Waits for mainstream news outlets to declare Nintendo the winner*
