E3 2011 Nintendo Press Conference Thread: What's in your coffee? [Over]

Lesson from this thread, some people are impossible to please.

Hard to be pleased when you're pretty sure some monkeys just hit you in the head repeatedly with coconuts.

Third party support is cool and all, but they spent their time talking about a system that won't be out until after NEXT e3 and showing me 3rd party games I'll have already played before said system even comes out. They focus heavily on 3DS stuff, which is fine, but leave the Wii totally out to dry minus one game.

How ANYONE can say this was the best presser this year, I do not know. Microsoft's Kinect-love fest was better.

I like how Nintendo once again confuses the entire industry.
Yeah same. The curveballs are great. My better half immediately wanted it when she watched the demos going on, and it does indeed seem interesting.

Overall I'd say they had the best conference. Its a given if you have a new console to announce.
So you thought Sony was an A+ too? lol

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, That was the biggest troll in the history of E3.

Wii U, WTF?

No console name/specs/price/date/PICTURE/prototype?? WTF??

Launch games Arkham City and Darksiders? We'll be playing that long before the launch of the inexistent console wtf

In short, I've been WTFing all conference long. Starting with the lack of a Zelda trailer.

And that Smash Bros is coming guys, but we're not showing anything because the game doesn't exist yet!! What. The. Hell.

This is the worst e3 conference this year by a significant digit. As much as you can about kinect and move garbage those at least weren't their next iteration of a console. Wii U showed no games and the brand new console was basically a peripheral to wii. This is an awful conference that basically made me not want to buy a product from them.

Persona7 said:
Not really? They basically showed the same games we have been playing for 20 years.

I do not think there was a single new IP in the entire conference.
Yes really. And who gives two shits if it's a new IP? It's just as good to do new things with established IPs.

So no one remember's E3 2010's 3DS reveal? This is exactly like that. They didn't show much then. We're several months away from WiiU.
What are you joking? They showed plenty of things for 3DS.

I missed the first round of logos. Anybody screencap it?

1st time a company didn't even show the console at a console reveal. Only the UPad...wtf Nintendo.

To be fair, what's actually useful to the viewer about seeing the console? All it really is is an anonymous box near your telly.

Trolls are getting scared. Savor it while you can the fact EA is even suggesting battlefield is coming is more than enough to show me nintendo is brining some beef to the table. Controller haters you knew it was coming and glad to see your took of your masks so we can see where you at.

The controller is the only thing I liked.

I'm a SONY fan, but the DS3 design is shit and it always has been. I don't game on SONY for the controller...I do it for the games.

The WiiU controller shits on the DS3.

That conference though...kinda sucked. And I guess we've confirmed that the console portion of the WiiU isn't much more powerful than the 360. Meh.

So, next gen every system is going to end up with tablet interfaces considering the industry's uncanny ability to follow Nintendo. Should be interesting.
Sony already has that with the Vita and ps3/4 interaction.

So after all this, I've yet to play a single Wii game to completion other than Twilight Princess (which I played on Gamecube.) Bought my Wii in 2007 and it looks like Skyward Sword is the very last chance I'll have to justify my purchase.

Not buying that Wii U shit. The way Nintendo handles their online all these 3rd party games will be neutered. I already have a 360/PS3. I'm good with that. Maybe next year they'll show some 3DS games, because so far they haven't shown me shit.

whats here to please us, how many reasons have you got to go and buy this if you have a 360 or a ps3 at the moment

Oh gaf, never change. Conference was exactly what I expected, explained what the Wii U did, a few games announced, confirmed increased third party support. Anyone expecting more than that is delusional.

It didnt though did it? Where is the console? Where do the discs go? How can one person play a game with the Wii U and another with a regular wiimote? What are the specs? What is the price? When is it released?

Honestly think nintendo going for the middle ground isn't a great idea. The system is not as casual friendly as the wii, and the controller doesn't lend itself well to core games of which will play better with a 360 or ps3 controller

and then there's the likelihood of a new sony and ms console not long after the wii u launch which will be far more capable graphically than the wii u

Kotaku has a note about it:

new_nintendo_console_detail.jpg

That is the new "console" or upgrade for the Wii.

  • High definition display, up to 1080p resolution via HDMI output
  • 6.2" touchscreen on New Controller, running in non-HD resolution
  • Internal flash-based media storage, upgradeable via USB and SD carts
  • Games ship on proprietary iDensity discs of unspecified, but "large capacity"
  • Games will also be available as downloadable content
  • Console compatible with Wii games and devices
  • Release date between April 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012; or after the end of Nintendo's fiscal year

What is so confusing? It's a new system with a new controller. That's it.

It's not a Wii add-on, it's not just a Wii HD.

Guess some people think the 3DS in just another DS iteration.

For those watching the nintendo channel they actually showed the new system in action where they played some of the games like tag and stuff that they talked about in the conference.

Honestly, that new controller looks like it's a pain in the ass to use. It's not only huge to hold in your hands, but it's fat to boot. I'm still not sold on nintendo and will be sticking with Sony.

I don't understand. I just don't get the Wii U. A console based on the idea of accessing inventory and other stupid shit on a second screen. Really, Nintendo? Could you really not demonstrate a better purpose for the second screen? I guess not since the DS has been out for years and thats the best developers have come up with.

Yeah, we need that Nintendo E3 Press site password, STAT. That's our only hope of getting any info on any Wii games that may be coming up.

The confusion is WTF is the point of releasing a console in 2012 to play games that run on a 2005 console.
They released a console in 2006 to play games that run on a 2000 console.

I'm sure someone's said it, but the release of the WiiU seems a ways of. Definitely not this year. Well, if that's the case, why showcase 3rd party games that are coming out for the PS360 this year/early next year!? It doesn't make a shred a sense.

Basically, if you have a PS3 or 360, Nintendo gave you absolutely no reason to buy the WiiU. And only time will tell how Nintendo markets this to casuals (many of whom already have smartphones and ipads, and more will have them by next holiday season), but I don't see them jumping on this, either.

Calling it now: The WiiU is dead on arrival.
Look at the junior being all wrong. Of course its not dead on arrival, if it will be the new Nintendo console to rpelace the Wii it will survive based purely on Nintendo first-party games. If it can release with a bunch of older third-party games ánd new games will be released simultaniously on 360/PS3 and WII U it will be a winner for a lot of people.

Anyway, its way to early to comment on its status and especially to declare shit as "dead on arrival", as its probably like 1,5 years away.

Apple can do what Nintendo's doing with the Wii U using an iPad and AppleTV. I'm calling it now, right here, just in case Apple decides to do it.

Imagine if back when Sony announced the PS3 all they showed you was a half hour with a DS3.

Seems like a poor argument to try and convince people who scream "BEST CONF EVER OMG" over a 15min orchestra concert.

The system could end up being great, but the way they announced it was just odd. Either give a tease or go full out. This was some awkward middle ground that impresses no one.

I guess because it is not out till after this time next year there is no point to megaton some real game? But yesterday we saw some Fall 2012 stuff put out there.

Nintendo needs to truly deliver next year.

It is wii with a peripheral controller and outdated graphics.

4 years? lol no, Fall 2013 or 2014 at the absolute latest.

Exactly. my money is on an announcement prior to wii-U's release from one or both that will incorporate the parts of the Wii-U's gimmicks that people really are excited about and show games looking like Epics new engine to take the wind out of Nintendo's sails and one or both announcing a 2013 release date.

Can't wait for the assets of the conference to start coming out. Does anyone know the Nintendo E3 press site link? We can start getting media in the forums out there.
