E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

Not a bad conference, not a good one. I think they have the best software line up and seemed intent not to show people it. The best show so far, but Nintendo should outclass them.

Outstanding conference from Sony. The PSPVita pricing is outstanding and Uncharted 3 mops the floor with anything MS showed.

Sony: A-

Microsoft F+

PSVita was nice, price being the highlight. $250 is too good to pass up, thought I am concerned about the lack of third party support.

That said, almost no new games were shown (only ones I can think of were Rune and Sly Cooper 4, which was just a teaser) and huge omissions like Journey, the Last Guardian, Sorcery, etc. were disappointing.

Sony had a decent conference made better by the horrible E3 showing so far. Hopefully Nintendo hits it out of the park tomorrow.

Sony gets a B from me. Sly 4, Starhawk, and PSV was good.

MS gets a C-. Only Gears and Halo 4 was interesting, but overall nothing new was announced.

I'd give Sony a solid B+

Me too. If sony held back all their info for the conference it'd be higher, but they didn't and it doesn't change the fact the games they showed early on (like starhawk) didn't get less impressive a week later

Nailed it. I'd give MS a C+ though, because if you're a kinect fan, it was the best thing in the world.

Speaking as a fan of Kinect, no it wasn't. "We're serious about getting it support" was nice, but the kind of support they showed off, and how much things were faked instead of demoed properly was disappointing.

I don't have any interest in playing Bioshock Infinite with the Move, but Ken Levine's segment was great.

Will buy Vita for $250 at launch with Wipeout, just like I did with the PSP.

The AT&T exclusivity announcement was hilarious. Someone should have told Kaz that an audience full of San Francisco game journalists was going to be pissed.

So true hahaha

So Dust 514 is going to be on Vita as well, dang can't wait to see how it looks and works.

Overall not a bad show, lagged in parts, and the move focuses games showed was disappointing, even compared to last year.

The good news is, the tacked on move support for games is GOOD, so it still justifies my move purchase.

I'd give it a Solid B,

Compared to Microsoft's conference, D+. Kinnect does not integrate into a existing core games as well as the Move does, which hurts it in my eyes. Although the casual games look a bit better.

They both suffered from FPSitis, although I find Uncharted far more exciting then the average FPS. Sly on the other hand...

I feel like Sony really really blew it with making the touch screen feel like a GOOD addition and not just something that ruins games we already love. They should have just left all the touch crap out of Uncharted, but then immediately after brought out a live demo of LBP and shown all kinds of crazy touch screen/camera mini games you could make. Instead of just trying to cram touch into non-touch games.

Well performed conference

Minimal focus on waggle

Every game is a "core game" (Nothing like Star Wars Kinect)

Decent to great jokes

NeoGAF: "BOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Does random hype for games 2-3 years off account for 95% of the grade or something?

What exactly do you want out of conference? Relatively speaking, who embarrassed Sony?

people seriously thought tht was boring??

wtf .... no graphs, amazing game after amazing game, awesome news on the HW front, GREAT PSV price, awesome 3D deal with the display and Resistance 3.

and holy fuck awesme one two punch with those two demos .. both looked AMAZING ..

and the PSV sw front looks strong as hell ..EXACTLy what we wanted, content sharing, cross platform play and cloud saves with ps3.

what else could they do? hit every mark

If you think Sony's conference was some order of magnitude better than any other conference we've seen so far, yes, you're showing your bias. And that's okay, but let's not be coy about it.

There wasn't much for the PS3 as I'd liked to, but the conference overall was very decent. PSVita price point was the best news out of there.. and it was mentioned/leaked on the web beforehand.

Hmm, I wonder if Nintendo will take the cake with 'Cafe'. We'll see tomorrow.

It was a real snorefest in the beginning, but it just kept improving towards the end and the Vita price announcement just put it over the top. I'm not fond of exclusive game content, but it doesn't change the fact that it will garner fans and hype.

Sony gets a B-
Microsoft gets a C-

Nintendo is a wildcard, but I hope they're sweating bullet bills right now because of the Vita price.

Boring press conference - not worth staying up for till 4:15am. Mod Nation AGAIN? Seriously...
Sony really needs to learn how to finish stronger.

Microsoft: D
Sony: B

I cared about the NGP stuff and the announcement of Ico/SOTC for September just completely lifted my spirits. Price point for NGP has sealed the deal.

Don't care about the Move stuff and a lot of recycled trailers and CG shit though. =\

Nintendo's conference to lose indeed. Thought Microsoft's conference was absolutely horrible.

Edit: F might be too harsh. D it is.

Uncharted 3 was amazing, Resistance 3 looks stunning, PSVITA at 250 is good enough for me after MS but it is only correct to state that this conference was not mind blowing in the slightest.

There are a lot of titles missing from E3 so far, will they all turn up at Nintendo?

........ nope!

Has the games industry learned to spread title releases and new information across the entire calender?

........ maybe.

Or is the next gen going to turn up all at once a lot sooner than most imagine?

Next years E3 will be very interesting.

PS3 part was shit. 0 new announcements, only already known games. Since when an E3 conf is a reminder of what I'm going to play during the year ?

NGP was good but only because of the price. Nice move by Sony, Nintendo must be really upset. Line up is decent too.

You mean not enough new announcements right? Sly was kind of a surprise.

Dust 514 has been in the back of my mind forever since I stopped playing Planetside and have been looking for that new MMOFPS. *crosses fingers* Please be good.

Yeah, LBP would have been better to show on stage, perhaps it was not ready.

Conference was the best so far which isn't saying much. Best thing was the PSVita's price but the lack of interesting games means I can happily wait until a few months after release before picking it up. I have enough games I want this autumn/winter to buy anyway and that's before Nintendo even shows their games. This is going to be one expensive year and my wallet isn't ready :(

Sony's Conference:

Highs:

- Uncharted 3 looks fun.
- SLY 4!! finally, a non-shooter that will be good!
- An RPG on display!
- Vita pricing
- Move > Kinect so more support is OK by me.

Lows:

- No compelling Vita titles announced
- Outside of SLY 4, a lack of game diversity on both console and handheld.
- No cross game chat for PS3?
- That PSTV doesn't really seem worth the price...
- Still mostly shooter/racing/sports focused conference, even if it was more diverse than MS.
- No good Move exclusive game on display...

Pretty good overall, definitely better than MS. But neither conference made their platforms look very compelling to somebody who isn't a fan of FPS, sim racing and sport games like myself.

It was somewhat interesting. I wish they showed more of starhawk though :(
Vita looks fun, but uncharted on it not so much. I hope though that it has its own set of games like the ds, now that would be great.

I didn't like the show at all. I don't really care for handhelds. I have a PSP but i only bought it for FF crises core. I love FF.

Why didn't sony talk about any improvements to the PSN? New features like cross game chat? The only new thing they announced was cinema now. Which im sure nobody cares about seeing how we already have netflix, hulu and vudu.

Are they not making any improvements to the xmb at all? The thing looks dated. How many changes has microsoft made to their UI since xbox360 launched? Im not saying sony has to compleatly revamp the whole thing like MS, but they could at least spice it up a little. It seems sony doesn't plan on improving anything with the PSN or xmb. And i don't think cross game chat is coming to the ps3 at all. PS4 i guess.

I know sony has a shit ton of games coming this year, so im not dissapointed that. But i wanted some fresh new ip's. They have over 20 studios so i don't know why something new wasn't shown at E3.

What did you guys want sony to announce?

And i guess nintendo wins e3 by default since they have a new console.

Really wanted to see Last Guardian :-( But Uncharted 3 looked great. PSV looks good and at a great price for the tech. I'm not convinced I want to buy one just yet, but it is very attractive. Overall, much better conference than Microsoft, but still not that great. I think I might be spoiled by past years' megatons and surprises, because these conferences this year haven't really gotten me that excited. The leaks may have something to do with it. I think Nintendo's conference will have some surprises though, simply because they don't tell anyone anything.

And people saying 3DS is doomed are a little caught up in the hype right now. But it will be a greater competition than DS vs. PSP was for sure.

The Vita price isn't news worthy? Wtf?

Outside of the Vita price. The Sony presser was a letdown.

The pricing isn't really a shocker though. It was always speculated to be in the $250-$350 range with two skus.

damn that DJ is killing it on the after show.

Vita cheaper as expected, but it is the only price it can compete with smart-phones, presentation by PS top very good, devs...breath, move more (to much) than expected, missing 2012 announcements, but understandable they want Vita to shine.

But where were the graphs ;) and no last Guardian :(

Idiotville confirmed!

since we're rating.

Sony gets a B-. it would be higher if they showed more unannounced PS3 games. but the PSV price is a big plus

MS gets a D. only Forza seems awesome and Halo 4 wasn't really a shock.

I'd give Sony a B+.

They've never been good at the presentation part of these conferences, but once again the content made up for it... mostly, the Move stuff dragged it down a bit, and the AT&T partnership didn't go down well. Still, the games looked awesome and demoed well, and the Vita price announcement did all the right things.

Eh, I really don't see how the touch-screen controls ruin Uncharted since they're completely optional. They're there for the people that want to try them out and for those that don't, you can control it just like normal. It may not be the best option or anything, but I can't see how having more options is a bad thing at all.
