Here's hoping this holds true, it would be great to end this e3 on a high note, instead of the current state of brown note.

They are all on the show floor, surely within the time limit they can only show so much, and they needed plenty of time for the PSV. They had to show some move stuff even though what they showed was worse than last year, have to show they are still supporting the device, but the bioshock infinite move controls could work well. I expect come Gamescom that Sony will be showing more PS3/PSV games, and TGS will show Last Guardian and give a WW release window. The infamous 2 showing was a bit strange, but it makes sense to show one of their big exclusives off a few days before release to all the poeple watching, a world wide free advert i guess.

wow did sony kill your freakin dog or something? some of you guys crying about "sorry isn't enough" are ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.Wildstar75 said:- Not satisfied with the apology. They never said hey we screwed up, but we are doing everything we can to make our online data secure. This will stop. If they keep up this negative momentum they'll fall behind woeful nintendos online. I was impressed with their Netflix claim.
Have to agree.vantastic said:wow did sony kill your freakin dog or something? some of you guys crying about "sorry isn't enough" are ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

edit: when psn finally came back i bet you downloaded those free games as fast as you could though huh?
Garjon said:That was a so-so conference at best. A really poor showing for the PS3 redeemed with a great (but poorly presented) Vita showcase.
In the hour or so dedicated to the PS3 there were FIVE games based around shooting, a trailer for a platformer (no gameplay), a terrible demo for a sports game with what may well be the most tacked on motion control support that I have ever seen and a hideous on-rails motion-control based adventure game. The variety and pacing of the first part was just atrocious; I said that Sony needed to come out swinging to get back some of the lost interest after the PSN debacle; instead, like in previous years, Sony came out talking. When will Sony realise that no one cares about this 'power of PS3' BS that they spout, they really should take a leaf out of Microsoft (but just this leaf only) and Nintendo and cut down on the chit-chat.
As for the footage itself, nothing really impressed me. UC3 seemed to take what I hope to be the most scripted sequence of the game to show. R3 looked nice but the demo was far too short and was again overly scripted. Dust looked so ordinary and I expected something more when the EVE devs came on stage. There was no sign of Agent, The Last Guardian or even one of the many Final Fantasy titles releasing soon and there was nothing out of the ordinary. It's a sad thing when Machinarium in the opening sizzle reel is what got me the most excited during the first half.
The NGP/Vita segment saved the conference from being one of the worst of recent times. Despite some awful presentation skills (there must have been some really steep steps to get onto that stage), I thoroughly enjoyed what was shown. There was a great variety of new titles shown (dungeon crawler, FPS, action/adventure, LBP, fighter) though what was more interesting were the connectivity options, such as the abiity to exit a game from Vita and continue on the PS3 as well as cross-platform play and the like. The hardware itself looked amazing, though I'd be frightened of using the touch screen for fear of leaving fingerprints on that pristine OLED screen. And then they had the price: at the equivalent of $249 in £, I would be tempted to buy one at launch even though I promised myself that I would never buy a console at launch ever again.
Overall, the conference was certainly disappointing, though I found it much better than EA's and Microsoft's pitiful attempts at generating excitement for their products. For the next time though, I hope Sony learns to tone down the shooter saturation and bring us more genres, such as RPGs and they learn to shut the fuck up every now and then. Additionally, since there are a number of titles suspiciously omitted (such as GG's new IP and The Last Guardian), I take it that Sony have something significant to show at Gamescom and at TGS to make up for it. Or at least they better had.

PuppetMaster said:You cannot discount Japan and Asia when you talk about PS Vita. It's like half of the market IIRC.
I basically feel like the Vita was made for Japan first. Other markets second.
venne said:I'm thinking Vita will be essentially DOA (same with 3DS).
I'm not saying that the hardware isn't compelling and that I don't think it will sell out and sell well for the first couple months. The problem is the business model for mobile has changed and Sony can't realistically expect the Vita to be a five year machine anymore. It's going to be technologically lapped by cellphones and tablets within a year if not sooner. Mobile 3D performance is jumping by at least a factor of two every year.
The pricing will definitely be an issue. Yes, $249 is a good price for the device in a vacuum. Unfortunately, it's competing with subsidized mobile devices. $500, $600, and $700 devices are selling for $199 or lower on contract. That's a difficult row to hoe for a device with a limited scope of usage.
Ultimately, I think the Playstation Suite on Android is going to be much more successful for Sony than the Vita. I'm a bit surprised they didn't focus on it more.

Sales numbers say it's false.NemesisPrime said:True... if it can convert the current PSP buyers into Vita buyers things are looking good. For the rest of the planet it will be DOA. The age of dedicated mobile consoles is at an end. Maybe not for hardcore gamers... but the market has shrunk dramatically.
AAK said:Just woke up, missed the conference. What did Sony close it with for the Finale? Sly 4? NGP?
TheRagnCajun said:The point is Sony is not trying to compete with phones, nor are they trying to replace them. Its an affordable device that offers premium gaming content and interface, which consumers could hypothetically own in addition to their smart phone. So long as mobile devices are limited by stagnating battery technology, so long as phones are unable to deliver sophisticated controls necessary for hardcore gaming, so long as smart phones are too expensive to buy for your children, there will be a place for dedicated portable gaming devices.
