It's been speculated that this was made using the Mario Kart 8 engine instead of the SM3DW one. I think I can see the similarities too.

I imagine they will use the MK8 engine for a lot of games, because damn, what a gorgeous game.

It might underpowered compared to the PS4 and X1, but Nintendo is the best at using art style to absolute maximum to make their games look incredible.

I'm kind of with you. Nothing amazing or new happening here, although the first-person perspective on the Gamepad during the minecart segment was kind of neat.

Gotta say I'm loving how Treehouse is working right now though. This is a neat, awesome way to show off new games.

It could look that way from a distance, but these sections in Mario 3D World were surprisingly good fun and they just asked for their own fleshed-out game.
