E3 2015: Horizon: Zero Dawn’s Incredible Balance of Action and RPG

Umm read the OP.

Also this is not a Monster Hunter or Souls.

I did read the OP, but that you can "level up Aloy" can mean a number of things. Doesn't necessarily mean she'll go from level 1 to 100. It might mean skill trees or a combination of a lot of things.

Thanks for letting me know this isn't MonHun or Souls though, super useful.

Also dont get the souls comparison anyway since you do level up.

Anyways we don't have many details have to wait until we get more.

Aloy? What a terrible name.

Definitely will be gettin this though.

Guerrilla stressed that Aloy isn’t just a murderer

Are you really a murderer if you're destroying robots? I mean, I guess a lot of us are murderers in that case.

I whole heartedly disagree. Part of the reason Horizon resonated with me so much is that the story is very reminiscent of one of my all time favorite short stories: "By The Waters of Babylon" by Stephen Vincent Benet. The idea that there is a people who live long after the fall of contemporary civilization where current technology (both basic and advanced) is mysterious and magical coupled with former cradles of civilization being regarded as taboo holy sites to be revered and not violated is basically straight out of the short story. But they added in this concept of perpetual autonomous machines which take the form of individual living organisms. Such a concept has a lot of promise both lore and story wise in this sort of universe. To make things even cooler some of them take the form of dinosaurs sooooo I am beyond sold. (I fucking love dinosaurs.) It certainly doesn't hurt that it is jaw droppingly gorgeous either. This is definitely (and admittedly surprisingly) my game of the show for Sony.

On a side note if any of you are science fiction fans and haven't read "By The Waters of Babylon" please do. It's relatively short and I promise you won't regret it.

Found a audio book of it on YouTube

"There is a skill tree," he continued. "There are two basic character development systems. First of all you're getting XP and you can use that XP to gain new perks. So that's the big one. One of the perks that you saw being used [in the demo] is the Precision Shot where you slow down time and that allows you to [aim] the arrows a little more precisely. Without that it's actually really hard to hit certain weak spots. [The character in the demo] is already an advanced character about level 12, I think.

"But there's also basically a secondary way of upgrading your character, and that is through the harvesting and crafting system. By going into nature and defeating bigger and stronger robos you'll get better armour-plating, better weaponry and slowly but surely you'll develop your character in a more naturalistic way."

In one of the previews, they said that there is a story reason why the machines look like that (dinosaurs and animals), & that it will be revealed in the game. So people should stop with the "it makes no sense" thing before playing the game.

It sounds like a open World Last of us in RPG form.

So...nothing like The Last of Us?

Other than the crafting, I'm not seeing much similarity between the two, honestly.

The fact that it's confirmed not a Hunting game actually kind bums me out. I really wish a western studio would actually try their hand at the genre.

Why does everything need to make sense? When did we become like this? I liked video games more when it was just "hey it would be cool if the enemies were robo dinos so let's put them in".
