E3 2015 Predictions & Discussion thread

Well since they are focusing on unestablished first-party I wonder if they won't bundle those instead to give them more recognition than TR.

"Unestablished" first-party?

MS's fall line-up this year is the tripartie of Halo, Forza & (rumoured) Gears. Only 3 of MS's biggest IPs.

There's no equivalent of Sunset Overdrive, new IP that needs to be pushed.

If anything, the deal with Square probably involved the bundle deal, since it assures that MS will buy from Square Enix a 'fixed amount' of Tomb Raider copies to be bundled, on top of whatever exchange of money they already had.

Was the PS4 price cut rumour discussed on NeoGAF at all? Source is something I've never heard of so who knows...

Didn't see a thread on it but if true, the Vita price cut would be so ridiculous people would shit their pants during the conference :-D

No chance of that ridiculous of a price cut. It's silly to even entertain the possibility. The msrp is currently 199, I think? So that could be a typo - maybe the new price will be [1]89. But 89? Not a chance in hell.

You dared....

How do we define selling well?

It sells like shit on PS4 because it comes out against newly released Uncharted 4. PC sales are the saving grace for the franchise. Overall it sells less than its predecessor.

I don't expect the PS4 version to sell as well as OGTR or TR:DE, but it will at least meet Square's expectations, given they're expecting it to sell less since it's already been out for so long. I also expect them to pull some release date gymnastics to avoid the UC4 launch as well. Casuals will still buy it, as much as I hate that.

I don't think they have any un-established first party games coming out this year.

Current Exclusive Retail Games:

- Forza 6 (Holiday 2015)
- Halo 5 (October 2015)
- Scalebound (TBA 2016)
- Gears of War (TBA 2016)
- Phantom Dust (Who knows?)
- ROTTR (Holiday 2015)
- Quantum Break (TBA 2016)

With Halo 5 already confirmed to be getting a special bundle this year, ROTTR seems like the most likely other bundle candidate this year (other than Forza), as it had Sunset Overdrive in the 3rd party bundle slot the year before.

I agree but even still if the document is legit the PS4 would see a $50 price cut.

But in all honesty the Vita price and the fact that that promotion ends before E3 even begins would both suggest there's not much left in terms of legitimacy.

I would get a Vita without hesitation (89€ would be a damn good price)

Sony's doing it wrong if the price drop is only a measly $50.

Exactly. A $50 drop is going to mean nothing when your competitor is just going to drop their price another $50 once November hits (I see no reason for MS not to drop the price again, it worked last year, didn't it?). A $50 drop is going to have the same impact as not dropping the price at all, and having your competitor being constantly lower than you in a price war is not a good look. I know Sony isn't trying to start a race to the bottom, but it would be in their best interest to follow the precedent of the PS2 and maintain their lead. The money to be made in software and PS+ subscriptions would offset the loss on the hardware anyhow.

$100 drop at PGC or sometime in November, I'm 100%.

Yup they are better keeping it at $399 for however long they need to and then dropping a full $100 when they are ready.

Dropping $50 will just mean $50 less profit for little to no boost in sales.

I just hope we see a full mass effect blowout this year. Maybe even some gameplay. Still hoping it's releasing Q1-2 2016.

My guess on the ROTTR situation is that it stays timed exclusive, and Microsoft bundles the hell out of it this Holiday to take advantage of the exclusivity period. The PS4 version will come out 6 months after the fact, sometime in the summer. It'll sell well despite the bad taste in most people's mouths.

Try and find a more reasonable viewpoint than mine. I dare you.

The Uncharted 4 delay fucked up that plan at least somewhat.

Remember that the narrative that justified this move back when it was revealed is that "it wouldn't have to compete against Uncharted".

I still think it will do modestly well once it's released, but that hinges on the game genuinely delivering on being a much better, more robust sequel to Tomb Raider. I think CD can deliver, I've been liking their output since basically Legend. But the lion's share of the sales that they could get on PS4, especially with the (relatively) less competitive holiday period that it looks the PS4 will end up having has been completely squandered.

Until I hear numbers, I just cannot picture a scenario where this whole deal will turn out to be a good idea for SE.

I wonder if this deal was made in advance of the 2013 E3 reveal. It's amazing how poorly this turned out for both CD and Square. On one had they have the original Xbox release being overshadowed by the bevy of releases in the holidays (Halo 5, Battlefront, Call of Duty, FIFA, etc.). Afterwards, the PS4 release will be competing with Uncharted 4. It really doesn't bode well for either version. If Square is smart, they'll delay the game until Spring, and release the PS4 version next Winter.

A price drop in November is a bad idea. Just say that it's a $100 off sale, and people will be way more excited about it because they think it's still worth $400. Then price drop for real in March.

I think you did... they wanted to avoid the Uncharted train that was coming in this year... and by all means, a pretty good reason considering how similar those games are from first looks. By now, the contract is done and no backing out... made sense back then.

A new Splinter Cell has been in the works for a while so its not to crazy to presume that we'll get a trailer at E3

Ubisoft likes to show their "and here's what is coming in the future" game at the end of their conference, I can see it being a ridiculously cool Splinter Cell demo, or Watch Dogs 2.

$349 PS4 bundles will happen this holiday, then the price will drop again when Morpheus comes out (next fall, I don't buy the spring 2016 bullshit)

Remember this leaked list of Sony's conference from last year's pre-e3?

Uncharted PS4 3 Minute Trailer showcasing ”In-engine” footage interspersed with gameplay segments. Visuals are supposedly unprecedented and set a benchmark for console graphics. Summer 2015 release date. It looks absolutely stellar. Features tropical setting and differing time periods with Nate/Francis.

Media Molecule’s new title will be a landmark title for Morpheus. 3D world building, beautiful, quirky visuals.Extremely creative and fun. Possibly related to the ”Entwined” trademark filed last week by SCE (not sure). Late 2015.

Gran Turismo 6 is coming to PS4 as 1080p 60FPS repackaged title in the vein of Gran Turismo 7: Prologue. Stunning visuals, extra features (social connectivity, new tracks, dlc etc). Coming mid-late 2015.

God of War 4 teaser will be present – will be CG with snippets of in-engine footage. A little early for reveal, but is designed to offset negativity surrounding canceled new IP and generate excitement – also to partially offset CG announce of Gears of War at Microsoft presser. Late 2015. Date wont be announced.

Kill Strain trademark is related to Syphon Filter reboot for PS4. Sony Bend working on revamping the franchise. Stealth, beautiful visuals and a possible Winter 2014 title. Bend finally getting to join the big boys.

Wipeout is also making the transition to PS4. Source is unsure of who is developing it, but hints that it could be Sony London, Evolution, or Firesprite.

Quantic Dream has a trailer prepared – unsure whether it is penciled in for Gamescom or E3. Sony will be watching Microsoft’s presser earlier in the day to gauge whether additional titles will need to be slotted in to dampen hype. Expect Dark Sorcerer- like visuals in real time. Off-topic, but still relevant – they are close to deal to become a Worldwide Studios developer, along with Ready At Dawn.

Speaking of Ready At Dawn, The Order:1886 will get a stage demo. Big title for Fall 2014. Sony is expecting great things from said title – franchise hopes rest on its performance.

Ninja Theory working on a PS4 exclusive – possible Heavenly Sword sequel which was shelved a number of years ago. Quite far into development.

Sony London will be at E3. First AAA title in many years. 3rd person title. Gorgeous. They’re back with a bang,

Guerrilla Games bringing their RPG to E3. Provocative setting – very interesting. Insane visuals as usual. A good reaction to the title is expected. Will please the hardcore.

Sucker Punch busy at work on an inFAMOUS: Second Son DLC. Really cool. New powers. Possible new setting. E3 debut.

Sony Japan Studios debuting two, maybe even three titles. Project Beast – spiritual successor to Demon Souls. The other is The Last Guardian. Retooled for PS4, possible Winter 2014 title. The Other title is shrouded in secrecy.

Evolution will give Driveclub some time in the limelight. It’s shaping up to be incredible with jaw-dropping visuals. Demo release will be timed with the press conference..

The other is The Last Guardian. Retooled for PS4, possible Winter 2014 title. The Other title is shrouded in secrecy.

lol

Challenge accepted.

My viewpoint is I'll just ignore all the drama and wait until the eventual PC version.

I think it came out that the Tomb Raider deal was made soon after the price drop to $400 and stripping out Kinect still didnt boost sales pat PS4 so MS went super aggressive trying to court big exclusives. So I would guess it came after E3. Heck you could preorder the game on PS4 from most retailers after the reveal up until gamescom.

Also before Uncharted got delayed I would have bet anything TR was going to get pushed to early 2016. Tomb Raider has been a Q1/Q2 game for years and years and it just made sense. Now I guess it has to launch this year no matter what.

it's crazy because with just that, Sony can win E3. Whatever happens at Microsoft or Nintendo or whatever, if Sony drop TLG, they win.

It would , at the very least, make a lot of noise on the internet.

If what they showed looked phenomenal, it would drown out any other noise from e3 for some time.

Don't do this to me man, the hairs on my neck are standing up
I'm really doing it to myself

Well, for people not expecting Sony to at least try and make a big splash this E3, when they have rented a special Arena (16.000 seater) 2 miles away from E3 and for their 20th anniversary... Not sure what to tell them (obviously just guessing).
