I know, but why would Sony do something like that? I mean, show off a game not even on a platform in an official screen? I may be seeing things, but this mess-up (U2 image paired with U3 label) does (for me) hint at something.

Meagan Marie, the community manager clarified this on Tomb Raider Forums and confirmed timed exclusive.
Not that big of a deal. I mean, look at what happened to PvZ sales wise. Considering the fact that Uncharted got delayed and will release in a window close to a hypothetical PS4 release... it's just a matter of $$ assurances at this point for Square. MS wants the marketing appeal, SQ wants a profitable product without having yet to ship it.
I know a few folks here like StrongBlackVine who were looking forward to it a lot but I really don't see much in it. CD would have to improve A LOT to get on Uncharted's level, and it's not the gameplay per say (melee combat needs improvement, QTE's could be improved) but moreso it's the pacing, character development and story arc (dialogue etc)... way behind (but so are many). Open-world which is, quasi-open world for TR, doesn't help, naturally.
Some will be pissed for sure but, it's business.
Still can't wrap my head around the deal and not going fully exclusive if the price is right w/ MS. How many units does Square expect to sell after 6 months, on PS4, at full price? 1M? Ummm...
I don't see it becoming a permanent exclusive so we have to wait until E3. I expect the opposite to happen and become multiplatform again.

Agreed. I'm surprised MS hasn't brought the IP and the studio yet... It'll happen soon, probably with Uncharted probably ending (unless another studio takes the IP) this would be a good move for MS.

I wouldn't be shocked if they make a "and Xbox will be the only console you EVER play Rise of the Tomb Raider on" announcement at E3 but I just dont think that game is worth them doubling down.
After a year of people mentioning that its only a timed exclusive I can see them doing it just to save face on it. Still would be a waste of money on their part since Tomb Raider isnt exactly worth it but its MS... they can play fast and lose with the check book.

Plus, no money that Microsoft is willing to offer up to Square Enix will offset one of their biggest franchises skipping the market leaders Platform for the life of the title.

Sure there's enough money for anything.
The question is whether or not MS is dumb enough to fork out that amount, when they can probably instead buy another game's timed-exclusivity and ride out their Tomb Raider "vagueness of exclusivity status" for as long as they can. (eg. b-b-b-ut phil cited ryse/dr3 as similar examples! those games never came to ps4!)
They aren't going to spend millions of dollars just to "save face" from some forum posters.
The wealthy are generally wealthy specifically because they are smart with their money.

Sure, they can pull it out of competitive platforms, but they also risk damaging the long-term prospects of the IP if they don't manage those kind of stuff well. Especially since Minecraft is bought for the IP, and far less about the studio.
Well, I guess at least TheKayle digging that January erroneous facebook post had at least the positive result of having CD's community manager re-state clearly the status of Rise of the Tomb Raider: Temporary Exclusive.
OTs should go live on the day of the event/release. Not sure if it's different with the E3 thread, but i doubt it. Maybe it was a day before, not sure.
My guess on the ROTTR situation is that it stays timed exclusive, and Microsoft bundles the hell out of it this Holiday to take advantage of the exclusivity period. The PS4 version will come out 6 months after the fact, sometime in the summer. It'll sell well despite the bad taste in most people's mouths.

It sells like shit on PS4 because it comes out against newly released Uncharted 4. PC sales are the saving grace for the franchise. Overall it sells less than its predecessor.
The stealth baiting to insiders is a nice tactic heh... hasn't worked.....yet.
