E3 rumours from our 2ch cousins

Yeah. I just hope mods are doing extra work during E3, its going to be crazy when everyone is trying to post something "big" first. No time to use search!! :P

Yup. Wild, mad dash. I hope the servers hold well. I need my fix. I don't want to have to resort to the disturbing underground caverns of IGN.

Well, great from a true gamer perspective but considering this is GAF a certain portion of out population may not be happy at all...

Of course. Nothing can ever satisfy everyone; doubly so when there's so much on the line for people who have set up camp with one particular hardware developer.

Nonetheless, for anyone who loves a big shake up and LOVES gettin' to know what to expect for the next few years in their trade/hobby/etc, nothing is going to compare to E3 2005. Biggest ever.

This was suggested in the other thread, and indeed it would be "teh megaton" (a big shot in the arm for Sony's online credibility, and simultaneous blow to MS's, one of their big strengths). It's feasible when you also consider EA wasn't exactly convinced by MS's online model..this way they'd have an excuse for not supporting it anymore, and gain something in the process.

But it seems a little big to happen IMO.

Not just that, when XBL went to 3.0, EA all of a sudden loved it. I mean, Madden Bowl last year was sponsored by Xbox Live. This seems way off in my opinion

SpokkX said:
what could that be?

surley not Bungie or Rare, since they are fully owned by MS...

but what else counts as a betrayal?

there are not that many exclusive games..

Big blue box/Lionhead goes Ps3?

Digital Anvil :lol

Freelancer 2 for PS3.

Any plans for chats during the conference? We had a great time on DC++ last year but I forget who was hosting.

Amir0x, find them and make this happen!
:D

Honestly, I think Sony buying a significant share in Tecmo is much more likely than any kind of restrictive deal with EA, but YMMV.

Hey, I wasn't here last year to participate in DC++ so I'd dig that this time 'round. We'll figure something out, I'm sure. We'll make a thread when it gets closer.

I am not looking forward to directing traffic.

I hear ya, man. I'm 56k, imagine all the pics an' shit I'm going to have to slog through during the 5 or so days that E3 news pours in.

This is actually the first E3 that I will see the unveiling of a home console and I am so bloody hyped for it. Xbox 360 sounds incredible so far and Revolutions sounds as though it could have hope, but as Nintendo have taught us, never get too exited.

i gather from what im reading that the best combo for next gen is a xbox360/revolution not a ps3/revolution because the ps3 will be broken when is released?

Wow 2ch and some of the other J-boards are even more creative when it comes to megat0n conjecture than GAF.... I wonder if they get quoted on Chinese boards? Ahh, they probably do... after all GAF is prolly pretty new to them...they can't even get our name right Gaming-Century(Age?)

:)

Don't get all excited. No console maker is going to release a console that's fundamentally broken. Strengths/weaknesses -- yes. Broken in some catastrophic way for the end user -- no. Too much time/money/brand recognition on the line for something like that to happen. Don't sweat it.

Just save up your pennies and get ready to buy all 3...

I really, really doubt Sony would release a crippled PS3

Minor hardware flaws? Sure. Supply problems at launch? I'd count on it.

But releasing a PS3 that's only 2/3 as powerful as it could be, i seriously doubt it.

Where do you live? In many places I've seen dialup is actually more expensive than the combo DSL-ish/Cable-ish option that some providers offer...

*context switch*

All this hardware talk is getting kind of boring....
I'd rather think about what games we're going to see at E3. Any rumors of good stuff going around? What games do you guys want to see? Hope to see? Expect to see?

I do agree, just tossing ideas around.

Best to keep expectations low. Megaton always disappoints, chiefly because of discussion like this that inflates expectations to ludicrous levels (and I admit to partaking in that myself).

The next week could be tough :(

well im just a 2console kind of guy. if the ps3 is not goin to be as powerful as previously announced, what's the incentive for waiting if the xbox is goin to be close in power and provide similar graphics. and im getting the revolution just because is nintendo. of course all of this could change come e3 with their game announcement.

Wow. so MS buys capcom
Sony trades Square-Enix for Bungie and a development team or two from capcom
and nintendo trades EAD for Bungie and SCE Santa Monica.

at least those are the current rumors for this upcoming E3 draft!

crazy. cant wait!

Wait wasn't there a thread back a couple weaks outlining the PSP is only using 60+% of its power? If THAT is true than the more recent allegation (PS3) may be true as well.

It was locked at 222mhz for power reasons.
I believe it has now been unlocked to allow devs to use all 333mhz. No games are confirmed to be 'now at full spec'

That's true, but that's a battery issue. I couldn't think of a reversible reason why sony would do that on the home side.

I believe Criterion says that Burnout Legends will.

I wish this thread had happened 48 hours earlier. 95% of the asstards that posted in this thread would be banned, then. :P

That would have required a temporal paradox, and I highly doubt GA's server can withstand a shockwave from even a minor temporal paradox.

yes, and it needs following live. I of course, will be on a 3 day bloody team building exercise in the wilderness during the event, so I'll be lateboi and miss all the bloodletting.

By the time you return, GAF will redirect to an image of a smoldering crater.

It's not that I can't afford broadband. I can. And I used to have it. Unfortunately, I got banned from my ISP for downloading certain movies illegally. Interestingly enough, the movie they said I downloaded I had nothing to do with, I still don't know why they thought it was me.

Nonetheless, I'm banned for a few years :P

Didn't want to put this in its own thread, if it's not true, and since this is a rumour thread...

one @ beyond3d (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22707) says Toshiba and Sony have agreed to adopt Blu-ray 0.1mm cover layer as the base of the new physical format. I don't know if that means the negotiations are over, and a format has been agreed upon (and bluray has "won"), and there's no link - he says there should be news reports within the hour. Take with a grain of salt for now, but IF this is true..it's exceptionally exciting news (!!)

Must..contain..excitement. Ahem. This may or may not be true, don't lynch me if this is false!

Did anybody else pick up today's WSJ yet, they had an article on the XBOX 360 in there, the article didn't say much that we did not already know, but they did confirm that Nintendo will be showing off the "Revolution" next week.

you know, you could always move out of Assfuck, PA and that would solve your problem.

Sorry, but can it hurt to ask for another forums indications to go if GAF goes down? :(

Well I suppose the board we used as a GAF refugee forum would work. If GAF really starts to slow down during E3, I'll post the link again.

Revolution development is going well. There'll be playable titles at E3.
- 3rd parties include Konami, Namco, Sega, Square Enix etc.
)

I know its rumours but I'm surprised no one has actively picked up on this one.

I've also been hearing rumors that SE will announce something for new Nintendo console hardware soon. Maybe even before they show anything for PS3, although PS3 will eventually get most of their support.

hmm could this have anything to do with the 'early sony adopters are gonna get screwed" wispers? If they have finnaly come to agreement on HD movies, then PS3 is a go for blue-ray high def movie playback... right?

Greatest for some, disappointing for others.

I meant "greatest" in the grand sense. As in, we're going to get so much news, so many secrets will be revealed and so many videos and new games announced that it will be the greatest E3 ever.

Obviously, not everyone will be happy with the secrets and shit :P

Namely Nintendo fans.

The stakes or no where near as high for Nintendo fans as they are for Sony and Microsoft fans. These fans have like married their very souls to the possibility of one or the other being a success. Any major announcement that is interpreted as negative toward the one they love will be soul-crushing for many ;)

The outcome being mooted now certainly wouldn't see early adopters screwed over - PS3 would have the next dvd standard in from the start.

ManaByte said:
Yeah, I'm still waiting for the new original id IP he said id was doing for Nintendo and not the PC even though Todd Hollenshead says "PC" every time he talks about their new game. :)
Well, duh. Revolutions' final name will be the Nintendo Player's Choice. ;)

Cragstar said:
Also if Nintendo are gonna show off the rev at E3 how come we’ve had no leaks like the leaky cauldron that is M$. Are M$ shit at keeping NDA’s legit or are Nintendo just VERY good?
I think the level of X360 leakage is unprecedented. Usually it seems if Nintendo E3 stuff leaks out, it's people getting glimpses of the booth while it's being set up.

thorns said:
how can such a trivial thing such as disc medium delay the development of ps3? if it was a problem with the memoery, cpu or gpu I could understand..
If they were planning on using Blu-Ray, but now must wait for whatever Blu-Ray/HD-DVD compromise solution happens... well, you can't just release a system with the RAM, CPU, GPU, and no complete disc format.

gofreak said:
I believe PS2 launched in Europe within a month of the US launch?
Yes, but it can't be ignored that even the US launch was 7-8 months after the Japanese launch. As far as time from initial launch to being out in Japan, North America, and Europe, Xbox is the fastest home console I can think of.

gofreak said:
If MS doesn't bag a christmas in Europe, they'll have seriously eroded any headstart on PS3 there (assuming Sony launches in Europe in 2006). The US is still MS's biggest hope, though (Europe is as much Sony country as Japan is, when you look at the numbers), so that should be their priority, but still..I think Europe would be far more "turnable" for MS than Japan.
Definitely. However, it's the math. If they want to have a big launch in Europe, they'll need well over a million consoles. Xbox being so less popular in Japan, they can get away with having a small fraction of that amount of units and saturate the market.
