So it's not hammy enough to be the Fraser one but not monstery enough to be the original?

the first movie is escapist entertainment at its best, and the likes of marvel and dc can only dream of reaching its heights.
75% of my love for that movie is Rachel Weisz. The other 25% is that chair throw.
I refuse this on the grounds that Dracula Untold is higher than Van Helsing
I'd argue the first Pirates of the Caribbean took the pulpy action-adventure escapist entertainment crownthe first movie is escapist entertainment at its best, and the likes of marvel and dc can only dream of reaching its heights.
Same reason people like Space Jam. They were 6.

There was a moment in my life where I called The Mummy and The Mummy Returns my favourite movies of all time. Things change once you hit the double digit ages I guess.I'm shocked so many people hold the Fraser movies in high regard

Lol @ that consensus. They're really gonna get angry at Rotten Tomatoes over that one.Current consensus at 28% with 31 rotten reviews: Lacking the campy fun of the franchise's most recent entries and failing to deliver many monster-movie thrills, The Mummy suggests a speedy unraveling for the Dark Universe.
The man who co-wrote Amazing Spider-Man 2 everyone.
Funnily enough, I was just old enough that I used to really like the sequel much more than The Mummy. I would have been 7 when The Mummy came out, too youngThink of the median age of this forum, think of what age they would be when the mummy was released, then think of the what age child would enjoy the mummy the most.
That's your answer.

Nah.
As a Spidey fan, ASM2 hurt worse.
Both suck major ass.
You know it's going to be bad when the theater shows a "behind the scenes please see my movie" trailer.

Nothing makes me giggle more than the "professional actor, who pretends to have emotion xyz for a living, telling you how funny, intense and exciting their latest product is" previews.
Also this.
"It's funny. It's endearing. It's emotional. Exciting. Buzzwords. Just a great time!"

Lol at the "it's bekause they wer children lol" argument.
The first mummy has aged very well and it's still a ton of fun even with fresh eyes. And in fact it's also one of the last great movie of that genre considering what came after.
The others I can definitely agree it's more of a nostalgia trip.

They first one is a legit fun movie. The second one is terrible and has a kid that was even more annoying than Anakin. I can't remember anything about the third it was so forgettable.

The third Mummy got crushed by the hot new DC movie at the time, The Dark Knight.
Funny how things repeat themselves.
So, the point of these cinematic universes is that they'll enhance the appeal of one another and prompt people to see multiple movies. The "halo effect".
But so far we've seen two would-be cinematic universes deliver dud films, and the irony is that these just drag down and weaken the appeal of future films.
I guess Wonder Woman is fine, but when I think about how it's technically canon with MoS, BvS and Suicide Squad, I wince.
The first is an extremely entertaining film. One-liners, ridiculous scenes, funny good and evil characters, you name it. I don't even remember the second one's plot .
