Easy Allies @ E3 2017 Streaming Thread & Schedule

i'll give it a 6.5, because most of the stuff ea makes aren't my cup of tea but way out was neat, good to see they keep making more games like that. kyle is out of his mind

A Way Out doesn't look like anything special.
I want NFS to be a racing game, not whatever it was that they showed off.
Battlefront 2 does look good but I need to see single player footage.
Anthem teaser did pique my curiosity
I didn;t care for any of the sports stuff.

You can easily consider this conference to be worse than a 5 without being an EA hater.

A Way Out isn't special? Name a story based game that's always split screen and you can't play solo. Name a game that takes place in a prison or the aftermath prison.

The Escapists springs to mind as a game that takes place in a prison.

Unique doesn't mean special. There's a reason that there are no co-op only story based games.

That sounds like a negative to me... I don't really want to play a story based game that requires me to play split screen with another person.

Does this count?

I don't care. We're talking about this press conference. The preconceived notions and obvious bias are absolutely gross. Judge what we saw today not yesterday.

A Way Out looked fantastic.
Payback looks like the most interesting NFS in a while.
Battlefront 2 looks like an actually great game that lives up to the series heritage unlike Battlefront 1.
Anthem teaser piqued my interest for tomorrow.
Sports stuff wasn't overbearing and didn't go on forever.

Sounds like a 7 to me. Anything below a 6.5 is unfair imo. And if you give it less than a 5 you're probably just an EA hater.

I meant they make baffling choices in regards to their press conferences. They made strange choices today to:

Not showing BF2 story
Not showing Visceral star wars (we saw more of it a year ago)
Absolutely no surprises, I suppose a way out it's great but I wouldn't call it surprising.
No Mass effect mention
No Titanfall mention
Cut short Bioware tease. They should have kept it for their conferences, but whatever, it's politics I guess
Constantly talked about things, then a video would demonstrate exactly what they just talked about

It has nothing to do with being an EA hater or anything, just a show that underwhelmed. EA has freaking Star Wars, it's one of the easiest things to show off and I don't think they hit the mark.

Because having a play session end because some rando leaves part way through is super dumb.
I would say this is a game better spent with somebody who isn't random. I am sure that limits their audience a bit but there's nothing at all wrong with taking that approach and if it's pulled off well, and the experience with a friend is as good as they say and IMO as good as it looks... it certainly can be something special. Just because it isn't the norm doesn't mean it can't work.

Because having a play session end because some rando leaves part way through is super dumb.

It's also a space that's extremely difficult but because of that there's a ton of potential for a a surprisingly great game. It's exciting for these devs to make this kind of game after Brothers.

And no, that's not super dumb. You go in knowing it's a two player commitment. Why would anyone who isn't ready for that even be interested in playing this game?

A Way Out - Looks terrific visually. I'm not sold on the concept. It's definitely interesting, but like others have mentioned, if it is too short it will feel unfulfilling and if it is too long there might be issues having a consistent partner for this kind of experience.

NFS Payback - The cars and visuals look terrific. It always surprises me when I see how just unbelievable graphics look now. I'm just hoping that the slow-mo with EVERY SINGLE TAKEDOWN is simply part of the trailer, because that would be unbelievably obnoxious during actual gameplay.

SW: Battlefront 2 - Looks like everything I wanted out of the first game, a graphically updated Battlefront. That's it. That's all I wanted and this looks like it will have it. My only qualm is that I still feel bitter that we are going to have to drop another $60 to get it, instead of fixing the busted ass game they charged $60 for the first time. I'm also nervous about where the monetization will be. Free DLC updates? I just am waiting for the loot boxes or the deluxe edition guns that cost extra money but are hilariously overpowered.

Anthem - It looked like Destiny. I know that isn't exactly a hot take but I'm hoping tomorrow's Microsoft conference shows something that I'm not expecting because right now all I felt was "Really?"

EA Sports - I'm not a big basketball guy and I had no idea what they were trying to show me with their outside demo. I am not into Fifa at all but people seem to dig it, so good for them. I really like Madden and have been known to buy it before, so I'm interested in their campaign mode story. It looks good too.

All in all, for a serious take, it was a 5/10 conference for me. Outside of a couple bright moments in Battlefront and A Way Out, everything else was dumpster tier or just awkward. As mentioned, even things I liked like Battlefront give me pause because I feel like the other shoe is going to drop or NFS where their trailer had some odd choices in how it was presented.

I would give EA 6. Was stunned to see Kyle, Ian and Ben give 8+ scores initially.

BF2 looked amazing, though nothing too outstanding gameplay wise. Enjoyed the extended gameplay though.
Sports games had little appeal.
Way out was definitely the game of the show.
Anthem was generic and shallow teaser.
NFS was pure garbage. Damn, I remember back when NFS actually focused in racing, not some faux Hollywood car chase with a disgusting amount of cutscenes and cheese.

Why are people writing off Anthem as a Destiny/Titanfall clone? We didn't see a single second of gameplay, I highly doubt it's going to be a competitive multiplayer FPS... Unless they've announced the genre that I missed, I'm operating under the assumption it's an RPG. It is Bioware, after all.

I agree with the general consensus that was a really bad conference.

Star wars was cool. Jail game was cool.

The rest was boring.

Madden will look so good on Scorpio!
Ugh

Didn't you see that soldier man's helmet looked similar to ones you'd find in Destiny & Titanfall? Instant clone.

I'm waiting to see gameplay to make judgements. Have they even said what type of game it'll be?

I saw mech suits and rolled my eyes, pretty much. That aesthetic is tired.

Games are inherently derivative

So seeing a cinematic trailer and automatically seeing similarities (in the look, setting, and how it could translate into a game) is a red flag

Everyone should absolutely wait to see before judging but yea

I don't think it'll be competitive but yea

Its a boring aesthetic imo, honestly Destiny's is too but at least it has the Fantasy slant.

So, what are we expecting out of Microsoft tomorrow? There's a chance it's going to go over the usual 90 minutes (it's slotted for two hours).

We know there's no Gears.
We know there's no mainline Halo (if 343i can be trusted).

We do know there's going to be:
  • Crackdown 3
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Cuphead (I think?)
  • Forza 7
  • State of Decay 2
That's a lot of time that definitely can't be filled by just 3rd parties.

So, what do you think? I'm pulling for new IP and, as always, for a Fusion Frenzy reboot.

I thought NFS was awful and Battlefront II's segment went far too long. Could've been made shorter and show the rest after the conference. Also, Way Out is definitely the stand out game.

Scorpio unveiling? I'd guess they would spend quite a lot of time by how they are hyping it up.

Assassin's Creed, Shadow of War, and Anthem should also be there.
Also possible: the new Tomb Raider, Fallout VR, Minecraft.

Leaks and the few details EA have given out about it. FYI, they specifically said it is NOT a RPG, it's an Action-Adventure game "built around a live service" with RPG-style character progression. Not a big leap to go from that to Destiny.

Alongside those:
New AA IP (think Ori or ReCore budget, not AAA)
Ori 2
ReCore Definitive Edition
Halo Wars 2 Expansion

Basically, I'm not expecting a ton from them.

Anyway, I slept through EA's conference this morning because I'm recovering from a nasty cold and figured I'd be better off with more sleep, so I only just finished watching their coverage.

Positives:
- A Way Out looks cool and unique.
- Need for Speed looks really fun.
- MUCH better layout and pacing this year.

Negatives:
- Still way too much talking.
- I'll never play A Way Out because it's a co-op game, so I'll probably just watch a stream of it.
- They're trying way too hard with all the streamers they hauled out on stage and cut into their videos.
- Still some cringeworthy sports stuff there, especially the two pundits they brought out on stage and the video with broadcasters and famous players complimenting a fake videogame character. That was SO bad.
- Anthem's short teaser did nothing to make me think it isn't going to be another Destiny-like.
- No Battlefront 2 single player (which'll obviously be at Sony's conference), so all we got was multiplayer and that looked like... more Battlefront.

D+

The 8 and even 7 scores were insane to me, especially from Ian of all people.

Loved the EZA coverage.

Watched it solo first and came out thinking the show was a 4 - after watching it again with the Alies, I'd bump it to a 5.5. That's only because they were right about the pacing being solid.

The PC crew and Huber were on point with their scores - I did a spit-take when I heard Kyle's 8.4, haha.

Edit: Also I'd bet this conference was only about in the 45-55% range of new game footage shown, and that's only because of their massive gameplay demo of Battlefront (which got hella boring).

I can see the high scores, I can see the low scores. It was a very EA press conference with a heavy reliance on established properties and little experimentation (2 new IPs introduced, 1 looking really interesting, and the other barely shown at all). It was paced well, flowed well, and final closing gameplay footage (BF2) actually got me pretty hyped. That lack of Amy Henning though is a real bummer.

A way out looks awesome but Im kinda bummed you need to play coop split screen. I can play with other people but it means that instead of being able to pick up and play when I have time, I need to organise a schedule to play it with someone and then if one of us bails we cant play, I just cant see me being able to get to the end of a story driven game that way.

I think those who are being lenient to this event seem to be captured by the style despite the fact that their show, again, lacked substance and those who grill it saw through that style.

You have to remember that the ex-GT guys were focused on trailers and the actual presentation does score higher for some of them and rating it on expectations doesn't help too. I bet Brandon would rate it around the 8 level too if he could keep the Star Wars disappointment out of his head.

I heard Kyle mention recently on a podcast or something that somebody on the forums restarted the EZA bet tracker. I tried to google it but couldn't find it. Does anyone have a link to that thread?

Im in the camp EA was not bad this year. Great conference that sold meh announcements. Reminded me of a less interesting but well presented Ubi conference.

Ubi conferences handle gameplay better, and have always a big final surprise.
I don't this one was on that level at all.

Alright gentlemen, what are your dreams for the MS conference today?

I want Beyond Good and Evil 2, a new Mechwarrior, a Fusion Frenzy reboot, and to see some new IP come out of MS. I also wouldn't mind some surprise Japanese developer announcements, since the cancellation of Scalebound has left a void in my heart.

Also, new this morning:
Forza 7 Leaked (Shocked)
Ori and the Willow of the Wisps leaked
Geoff Keighley believes XB:S will be $499
Windows Central believes XB:S will be $449
Gamers hope we can build a robot for $399
