EBGames PSP preorder

Hey guys thought I'd let people know that ebgames.com is now accepting preorders online. $399.00 gets you a PSP, an accessory and 3 games. They say price could go up or down and you will get an email on how to make choices. I preordered mine a few minutes ago as I never have had problems with regards to preorders from them. I can't wait.

Its about time. I was considering importing but considering the price and peace of mind I can wait. I know EB's doesn't know yet but there's a good chance this package contains the same extras as the value pack. If you add it up:
$250 - Value Pack
$50X3=150 - 3 games
U.S. Sony warranty + Ebgames return policy = priceless
Total = $400

That sounds about right. I'm looking foward to launch.

Ok, so here's the deal. My friend gurl, animegurl, lives in americat at the moment and I'm contemplating letting her get me a US PSP on the release day. Thing is, I don't want her fragile little body to be crushed in a line fighting hundreds of PSP fanboys outside EB Games.

Q: Can she pre-order it and pick it later during the day, or even the day after, still being promised able to get one just by pre-ordering (that's the way it's here in sweden, pre-order and you're garantueed one, if they run out you're not even allowed to pre-order)? Or does _everyone_ pre-order and it's still first come?

Also, can someone direct me to a thread about battery times? Need to know how long it lasts with say music playing, or manga readong. :)

Reading manga and music off a memory stick should be about 8~10 hours afaik

"$250 - Value Pack"

no way in hell

I think 250 is extremely plausible for the value pack.

In Japan, Value pack is like 238 dollars or what not by conversion.

In US, if there's a standard and value pack, it'll likely be...

STANDARD (PSP-1001) for $199.99:

• PSP
• Adapter
• Battery pack

VALUE (PSP-1001k) for $249.99:

• PSP
• Adapter
• Battery pack
• Wrist strap
• Cleaning Cloth
• UMD Video Demo
• PSP Protective "Slip" Case
• 32MB Memory Stick Pro Duo
• PSP Headphones

Truthfully, if Wipeout, Lumines and Mercury all come out for the PSP launch, there's a good chance I'll grab all three.

Since someone took my right to post, being a junior member and all is such a threat to the integrity of this board, I'll ask a question here:

What will be the "must have" PSP game coming out?

I'll wait for gamestop(.com) to make their move. even if they turn out to be as Gouge City as EB, at least they won't charge me tax!

Why not just put down $20 at your local EB/Gamestop?

I have always gotten burned by the people working in the stores.

I plan on buying between 7-10 at near launch so three is good with the package. I don't expect the $399 price to stick either, more like $325-$350. Lastly I know it's a GODDAMN FACT that I will have that baby the day it releases; don't have to run around, wait in lines or stress.

Gamestop wants $50. I went with them as I'm hoping that $50 down will absolutely, positively guarantee that my PSP will be there even if I can't make it in the morning.

Fuck EB, seriously. Hey, maybe I don't WANT to be limited to what's likely going to be an anemic selection of games at your particular store; maybe I've got a buddy at TRU who can get me games slightly cheaper; maybe - just maybe - I won't need a damned "accessory" right out of the gate.

I hope that one day, someone at these chain stores gets a clue and realizes that they'll endear themselves to more people if they didn't force this stuff on anyone.

Well if demand is greater than supply, they can do whatever they want practically.

I assure you, whenever an EB employee says something is "hot" and "in demand" and "impossible to find," 90% of the time, they're lying. By the time the PSP's US/Euro launch comes around, Sony's production issues with the thing will likely be over and done with.

My Gamestop wants $50... I'm leary of putting down $50 with no launch details yet, but I fear that if I wait until after the announcement the amount of preorders will skyrocket from the current 3. Sigh. I want a value pack, I want Ridger Racers, I want Lumines, I want some fucking info, Sony.

You guys do know that you can get a refund if you're not happy with the launch details? At least you can at Gamestop. I don't see why it would be any different at EBgames

They weren't lying about it with PS2 shortages, and the PSP is probably going to have shortages of close to that magnitude.

So yeah, demand will outstrip supply. And like someone said, it's their right to "force" the bundle so that they can make the most money. They WILL sell, so it's not a matter of that. It's a matter of if you're hardcore enough and have enough money to pay for the PSP.

Note: They're not forcing it on you. You can bring your business to any other store :)

I'll probably just end up preordering it from Gamestop within the week. Launch details are far too scarce for me to start making any other commitments.

I found this intersting on the eb psp page:

Dates and prices have not been confirmed and are subject to change. Actual price for this bundle may be higher or lower. If the price is higher, you will be charged the higher price. If the price is lower, you will be charged the lower price.

You will receive an e-mail confirming dates, prices and the process for choosing your three games once this information is available.

Orders will be shipped on a first-come first-serve basis.

You may cancel your order at any time up until 10 days before the PSP launch date. Your credit card will be charged 10 days before the PSP launch date.

I'm starting to get a little annoyed by SCEA. It is almost February and no PSP date or price is set yet.

When they pull the "OMG YOU'LL NEVER GET ONE, YOU'RE SUCH A LOSER FOR NOT PRE-ORDERING HAW HAW HAW" card for damned near anything and everything, I'm sorry, but my Cynictron 5000 buries the damned needle. And, really, one well documented shortage that was confirmed by the manufacturer themselves doesn't somehow justify blatant manipulation by clerks for everything else.

Here's the thing with EB, and it varies from store manager to store manager, so it seems that every store manager near me is a complete dick:

If you don't preorder something "big", they won't sell you a copy/unit - period - on the launch day, sometimes even the day after - because you didn't pre-order. Even if they have obvious extras lying around. This happened to me with REmake, Vice City, and my GBA. Each and everytime, I calmly walked out, found another store that was perfectly willing to take money from me, and went home happy.

I suspect - no, I know - that I won't have any problem finding a PSP. Between TRUs, Targets, Best Buys, Circuit Cities, and a few token Gamestops that aren't run by raging assholes, I think my chances are pretty good.

Note: They're not forcing it on you. You can bring your business to any other store :)

I haven't bought anything new at EB since, um, Midnight Club 2, I think. And even that was a fluke. They're my one-stop-shop for used crap, though. They seem to want to push that stuff anyway.

Good luck. Everyone who wanted a PSP definitely got theirs during launch week in Japan, that's for sure!

O...o wait!

Among major production issues that even Sony copped to having. That won't be the case come March.

I need a reason to pre-order something beyond "Yes, I got mine a whole two hours before you!" Like, say, if I put $50 down for one at Gamestop, I won't have to pay tax on a $200 purchase, but instead a $150 one. That amounts to a decent, saved hunk o' cash in my neck of the woods.

No it will still be the case, since Sony will be splitting its launch between Europe and US. For at least a few weeks, the shortages will still be absolutely massive.

And, you know, the PS2 shortage was horrific in the USA as well...sooo

I pre-ordered mine at GameStop but I'm thinking of doing it at BestBuy since they seems to me to be a more reliable company when it comes to returns and replacement plans.

Has BestBuy even started to accept pre-orders?

You've got your crystal ball, I've got mine; I'll find one within a week of it coming out. But I'm sure you've already bookmarked this thread to throw it back at me come late March. :P

Actually, the tax will still be calculated on the initial price of the item. If I had a scanner, I would show you one of my receipts from Gamestop. They count the money you used to pre-order the item as store credit and subtract it from the item's price after calculating tax. I.E. If the PSP were to cost $200 at Gamestop and you were to put $50 down, the tax would be calculated on the 200 and then the 50 would be taken off.

It's a pretty safe bet given the corporate climate at EB and the supply/demand situation with PSP that they will only be selling in bundles at launch and for some time thereafter - both online and b&m.

For as long as they can move every hardware unit received in a bundle they will. It's sure to be allocated and they know that even if it means a day or two extra to sell completely through the stock they can bundle and still sell out. The bundle ensures their gm and tie numbers.
