Both fantastic games, must play on MegaDrive / Mega-CD if only to enjoy the different soundtracks. Great ports to the Game Gear as well.

I have every Ecco game and have never finished one. I can't wait to buy all of these again and not finish them.

Literally the only thing I remember about this game is doing little backflips on the waters surface and being like "heh".

Yea ill buy this junk again.

I remember when this franchise first launched and how excited for it I was, but playing the games, it never quite lived up to my expectations.

I can only speak for the first one. But I think it's only finishable on emulator using save states.

I may also warn you, if you want to get to the end prepare to be scared shitless. It's the most terrifying game on the Genesis.

This, all day every day. Ecco is the scariest game I've ever played. The end segment of the first game is straight-up not okay.

I was just sending this to a friend and told them how I spent over an hour swimming in the intro pool. I had no clue you had to jump high in the air to begin the game. I just thought I was a weird game. Randomly jumped really high and was blown away.

Yeah, so as a young child, I too was a game journalist.

Hey I'm looking forward to this! Ecco messed me up as a kid. The music and tone alone was unnerving but then when you find out what's going on later on in the journey...

I could never beat Tides of Time though, even with rewind states. Some twisted alien jelly fish kept knocking me out of my futuristic water bridges that connected the sky lands.

Third game?
1. Ecco the Dolphin
2. Ecco II: Tides of Time
3. Ecco Jr.
4. Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future
5. Ecco II: Sentinels of the Universe (cancelled)

Mfs clearly haven't played the original and be shocked at the survival horror turn the game takes lol

Doesn't even take long either. And I'm not even talking about the alien shit.

It's one of the dreariest, most foreboding games Ive ever played. Bought it when I was 12 with some lawn mowing money. Pure nightmare fuel and helped develop my fear of open oceans :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_neutral:

Man I have so many memories watching my dad beat both games on our Sega CD back in the day. I've since beaten them myself via emulation and can't wait for these remakes/remasters to drop (hopefully with the og Sega CD soundtrack as an option).

If Sega is funding remakes of Ecco 1/2 + a new game in the series it makes me wonder when the heck we're gonna get a Skies of Arcadia remaster. I love Ecco but it's about as niche a title as Sega could bring back. It's esoteric gameplay and difficulty don't exactly scream mass market appeal lol.

Will play these for nostalgia, the scariest games I have ever played, they give such a un easy feeling, once them sea creatures get sucked up and you go deeper into the sea it would give me a feeling of dread.

If they're going as deep as Ecco, they might as well give us some new Greendog and Chakan The Forever Man :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Sega Ages version has a mode where you never run out of air. It also allows you to choose the Japanese version which had checkpoints.

The game in general has this eerie undertone. The original Genesis box art would lead you to believe you're about to embark on a colorful fun adventure.

Ecco games were technically impressive. On both MD and DC they looked amazing.

But I tried it on MD, and I actually owned the DC version when it came out. I couldn't really get far into those games and eventually just gave up.

I'm potentially down for this.. hopefully the remasters look good and not bad, to put it simply.. Somehow maintains the art direction and style without stripping it out and replacing with generic polygon basically.

A third game would be nice.

Im thinking there's definitely going to be some sort of simplified navigational system implemented. There was a map screen in the original, but you would still get turned around constantly (because you're fucking underwater).

How about this?

Came to post this. The PS2 version was fantastic and I believe it's one of the highest rated games in the series. Not sure what they're smoking with their "new 3rd game" comment but we need a remaster of DotF and this would have been the perfect opportunity to announce it.

NVM, i get what he's meaning by "3rd game".

Ecco the Dolphin was one of the hardest games I've ever played in my life.

As a 9 year old me, it was too difficult. My older cousin had to give me all the cheat codes to be able to go to any other levels over the phone. If any of you know what I'm talking about, imagine writing all that shit down over the phone.

Without those cheat codes I would have never seen 90% of the game. Still never beat it!

That was like a spin off from the original but also really good, this 3rd game will be sequel to tides of time made by the original team

Never fails.

Wow so hyped amazing game from my childhood! Play for ten minutes here and there, never finish it, enjoy seeing the cover art on my PS5 dashboard more than playing.
