Echoes >>>>> Prime

How?

edit: I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you could have added what makes it a better game.

To me at the moment it's feeling like the same jigsaw, just different pieces.

everything ..

I'
m 10 hours into the game, and everything just feels MUCH better, the atmosphere, the graphics, the feel of the game is just fantastic ..

Except for the title intro, the music in the game's a lot worse than Prime's.

They left the MP credit music out of Echoes' credits. Crap.

Mm, maybe I've just got very good memories of MP, but MP2 doesn't seem to raise the bar much higher, or maybe I was just unrealistically expecting more.

I'm having a blast with it nonetheless. :)

Wha?

Since MP2's title theme is basically just a quicker version of MP1's title/credits theme, you can still hear it every time you boot up the game. :lol

I was hoping to hear the full or remixed theme at the end of the game though.

Its a better game but Prime 1 has better music also both games still have some of the same flaws which some people notice more the second time round.

The voice acting. I could hardly hear what those damn Luminoths were saying. It was just atrocious.

And Samus being an ugly, UGLY human.

Things like: You get too few items to begin with and gameplay quality is lacking till you get enough. Spiderball for exmaple should have come much earlier. Next time more stuff availible early. Zelda handles this much better. I think the door idea needs to be done away with. Teleportation if needed? Just update bits of the design to modern days. Its not the 1980's anymore. They should be reinventing Metroid not trying to follow it. Oh and Samus's original suit is shit. How can that be used is stupid on behalf of Nintendo. Make the light suit the default or something. Other than that Retro added great changes.

I can make a strong guess that the change in Samus' character design without her suit was a decision made by Sakamoto or one of the higher-up's at Nintendo in Japan who wanted Samus to conform to the design they gave her in Zero Mission.

Well if you're gonna change the franchise that much, you might as well just let Retro make an original franchise.

Metroid's cool, but it's always been a more "cerebral/exploration first" type of game.

Well, if you thought the design Nintendo gave Samus in Zero Mission was ugly, then thats what it is. Of course, as I said, I doubt you can blame Retro, that change was no doubt given by the higher ups in Nintendo.

Pics? If Retro uglified Samus, then I will forever hate them.

I'll try and find them, but imagine Samus's art style done by Intelligent Systems (like at the end of Zero Mission [I think] Or Fusion) mixed with the model they had for the commercial/Metroid Prime.

I really don't understand Samus' model in MP2. It's such a drastic change from how she looked in MP1. I mean a drastic, drastic change. In my opinion, she looks way too cartoony in MP2, while in MP1 they were trying a more realistic approach. The body is fine in MP2...it's just the god awful face.

MP1 Samus head > MP2 Samus head.

The problem is that they think Samus has long hair, which is stupid. You're not gonna have long hair if you have to stuff it all under a space helmet. Retro got it right with that "Illustrated Samus" concept drawing, where it's kinda short and scruffy, looks a bit like Rachel Summers from the old X-Men comics.

Come on man, whats not to understand? Nintendo wanted the character designs to conform with eachother. They (Nintendo) preferred the design that was given to Samus in Zero Mission, and so they had Retro change their model so it would resemble that.

A change like that is most certainly not Retro's choice. Don't forget that the guys with the final say on the game are in Japan.

She always had long hair. Short hair would suck because it would be screwing with the original concept of the character.

Yeah I guess that's true...but still, that Samus model was already established for Metroid Fusion long before it appeared again in Zero Mission, so why wasn't that already applied to Metroid Prime 1 since Metroid Fusion released primarily around the same time?

Either way it's retarded to alter the model from original to sequel that much, even if the bigwigs at Nintendo wanted it that way. It's a lot like comparing the original Joanna Dark model to the new Joanna Dark model.

I see no problem in "screwing with the original concept of the character" when the original concept of the character doesn't make any sense ^_^

Samus in MP:

And yes. She doesn't need long flowing hair. IS did that for Fusion for some reason.

I don't think I've ever seen Samus portrayed with short hair. She always had long hair at the end of the first Metroid, as well as in those Captain N comics by Valiant(Take that for what it's worth)

All I've seen of her is her face within her helment, which looks fine to me, is there more to see later in the game or something?

I'd possibly give the edge to MP2(still have to finish it tho). Both have their ups and downs, but neither offers heavy contrasting evidence of superiority.

I do think the bosses and morphball puzzles are much cooler in MP2. Environments are a bit more interesting this time around, but the dark realm doesn't differentiate itself enough from the light and ends up dragging the flow down in some cases. Or maybe I'm always too busy dealing with the tougher obstacles and enemies Dark Aether throws at me, which makes it difficult to really sit back and soak in the sights.

Edit: wait, this is actually about Samus' hair?

Yeah.

Her entire body out of the suit, and her face and hair.

Samus's blond hair in Prime actually looks like a real hair color too, and not just strictly yellow. She looks a lot better now than what I thought when I first saw her.

God that Samus head is so much better!

And it'd fit under the helmet. Imagine trying to stuff two feet of blond mop inside that thing.

I mean, yeah, she had long hair in the original Metroid. In 1986. It's the 21st century now. An 18-year-old character design from a 2D game for an 8-bit system ain't necessarily holy writ when it comes to making something in lifelike 3D, ya know?

I don't think the metroid series is striving for realism. I would be more concerned about how her body gets in such a small ball rather than how her hair fits in that helmet.

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing.

But you know even if Retro was told to alter the Samus model so that it matched up with the one from the handheld titles, that's no excuse for how poorly the model is executed. I mean come on, they could have easily doctored that up to make it look non-ugly, or even slightly similar to the first model.

With all the time Retro was boasting about having to 'tweak' Prime 2, I'm kinda surprised they let this get by.

Point. Maybe it's the same technology. Like, the hair and the excess suit mass both get sucked into some portable hole type shit.

Damn. I want one now. I'd never have to clean out my closet.

Found it. Hmmm, I'm thinking about linking to it, but I don't want to ruin people's motivation on the game.

Hmmm, well, it's not bad. But it's definitely not what you expect from a bad ass bounty hunter. How old is Samus supposed to be anyway?

...Wait a second. Where are you guys getting that Samus ever had short hair?

It was long in Prime 1 too, just up in a ponytail, which you can't tell in Ani's pic.

I think her hair is a little longer in Prime 2 than Prime 1...but it's still long in both. It always has been.

I loved both the zero mission and metroid prime 1 (except the fact that her suit doesn't come off in prime 1) rendition of Samus. Dying to see what's so bad about the metroid prime 2 version of her.

Anime or human... anime or human...

MP has a far more real feel while the new one feels plastic and more... umm.. gamily fakeishy... It suits for art... not 3D...
