EDGE 214 review scores

It takes a good score for you to DOWNLOAD A FREE DEMO?

WAT?

We don't all have magic internet you know! If I went and downloaded that demo my whole itnernet would slow down for about two days, and it would take about 9 hours to download the demo!

Is 5 actually an average score for Edge? Because in that case, a 6 would be above average, thus generally pretty good.
The mean is 63.75% according to all the reviews on gamerankings, which is lower than many many many other places. I think 5 really is average, or at least, comparable to a 7 from pretty much anywhere else.

Yeah, but that's just crazy reasonable talk, man.

All around legit scores for what they gave I suppose. The two that stick out to me are:
Resonance of Fate(I liked it a LOT and completed it 2 days ago)
Super Street Fighter 4(This is the game I've been most excited to play since 2010 started)

The RoF being a 6 is understandable I suppose, because it isn't for everyone, but SSF4 getting a 9 from Edge means by their standards it's REALLY good.

Several questions come to mind about that though. 1) Did they get to play it online? If so, how laggy or non laggy was it? Team Matches have issues? Easy to find people to play with? These are things that could ruin the experience for me as someone who's buying the game day one. 2) What did they give the original SF4? If it was less, then what did they find really improved the game overall for them. If it was equal, then what more could they have wanted to push it further.

It's hard for me to take any game with an online component's review scores seriously after Gears of War 2 back in 2008. That game burned me really hard on online and ever since early reviews for games with online I tend to just entirely dismiss.

This is usually the plan, although my 360 is very loud in my room. Plus it's hard to justify to my hosuemates why everyones internet should slow down for a few days so that I can play a demo.

What country are you in?

Oof.

:lol at the DoA score. Must have got a few hours wanking material out of it then?

Colour me unsurprised by Conviction though.

Why Oof? That's a fair score, I'd said - it's a pretty decent game, with great potential moving forward.

Despite it's issues I would have thought it might have scored better.

from the Splinter Cell review

Edge has awarded Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction 8/10 in its latest lead review - claiming that the title is 'in reach of greatness'.

The mag is particularly impressed with protagonist Sam Fisher's ability to turn environments into 'torture chambers' at the press of a button.

'[Even] the presence of a piano suddenly fills the room with ominous potential' it reports.

It adds: 'The environments, at their best, are playgrounds for Fisher's lethal abilities, giving him every opportunity to outflank and outwit opponents who otherwise outgun him.'

It calls one particular chase around the
Lincoln Memorial Ground
'heart-pumping', and praises the new, less-stealthy style of play. 'As Splinter Cell goes from covert to overt, a new-found dynamism emerges,' Edge reports.

However, the mag finds flaws in the games 'short' single-player campaign - and says that too much of the title is played in new atmospheric monocrome.

'But when Conviction hits its stride, the environments unlock the player's tactical ambitions in a way that's truly empowering,' it adds.

Good score for Conviction. Looks like its going to be a 9/10 everywhere else. :D

The 8 here means nothing. DOA Paradise got a 6, then it should be getting 7 to 8 everywhere else, but the metacritic is 35 (i think) :lol

Well, almost every reviewer didn't even bother to play DOA Paradise, just make masturbation jokes about looking at the girls.

The original Xbox game has a 74% on gamerankings. It's basically the same exact game, with 2 more characters, a couple of the mini games from the sequel, and some other small enhancements (like Rio being the blackjack dealer, some things being unlockable).

(IGN, gave the original a 9.2! But DOA:Paradise only got a 5. Wonder if they ported Jade Empire to the PSP, what it would get...)

And you read Playboy for the articles, I presume?

has anyone here actually PLAYED DOA Paradise, or is everyone just assuming it sucks just because?

i mean, i haven't played it, nor do i want to, but it's strange to see so many people bewildered by the score..

And people still defend this magazine.
What would your subjective score of the game be and how many hours did you put into your playthrough?

People only defend Edge because people like you attack their opinions with baseless stupidity.

Y'know Dave, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a virgin.

True, but even so I think you can expect some whining. If not because of the scores here then because people will try to compare them with older scores. I mean, Killzone 2 only scored one point better than Dead or Alive Paradise and Dead to Rights!

oh the randomness of mentioning GAF's FPS of the year... everyday is KZ2 hate day :p

but nah, GAF is more mature than that, deep inside we all know Killzone 2 was just a bit better than DoA Paradise, Gran Turismo Portable also got a 7.

It's a softcore hentai game where you buy bikinis and take pictures of DoA girls doing sexy dances. It took me alot of google searches to find out the game even has volleyball. What was the main focus of the game before is now just a distraction from the pervertedness that is the rest of the game. And Volleyball games last less the 3 minutes and framerate is terrible.

Oh... and the boob physics are completely ridiculous

Flicking through -

Oh.. A whole feature about the making of Resi Evil 4
Quite lengthy.

Interview with PopCap founder.
Feature on Hydrophobia.

Rest = usual previews and news stuff.

Also, have people started raging already? :lol Over DOAP Nonetheless lmao!

Any excerpts or quotes from the SSFIV review? That is the game I'm most excited about at the moment, and 9 from Edge is a really, really good score.
