Really got a kick out of the whole string of pieces posted at http://chaosedge.wordpress.com/

I just can't believe how low this Tim fellow has gone. What a piece of shit. It's wonderful that this situation has finally drawn the attention of more people that may actually make a difference.

Mobigame: Langdell's lawyers have "fled"
Mobigame boss David Papazian has told Eurogamer that the tide has turned against Tim Langdell and his Edge videogame-name lawsuits, and hopes no other developer "will ever hear of him again".

"In the end, Langdell never sued us for past sales and all his lawyers fled, which is enough to prove that he has absolutely no legal grounds and everyone knows that now," said Papazian.

"More and more companies who are suffering from Tim Langdell are joining the fight. It is just the beginning. But it is a strong signal to everyone.

"As you may know, EA engaged a legal action against him and we believe that more companies will follow," he added. "It reminds me the story of Leo Stoller, another trademark troll who finished his career in jail."

That explains why he kept sending ultimatums on the friday evening for the monday morning.

Didn't want them to consult a lawyer, or anyone that could tell them he actually couldn't do a thing.

Well at least now we know for sure that he can't.

oh man, this part killed me :lol

"If you know who Graeme Devine is, you will not be surprised to hear that Apple now supports us. Graeme had joined Apple's iPhone group this year, and today Tim Langdell is trying to sell a fake iPhone game on his fake store which is called Firebirds," said Papazian.

"He also stole an illustration from a 15 year-old girl on Deviant Art to make a fake cover. And the point is that Graeme created Firebirds in the '80s and he owns the copyright on it."

why do people want to get rid of langdell? he's amazing

Because he steals money from game makers for games he hasn't developed, distributed, or funded.

Glad to know that Edge is back on sale on the iphone store

Yeah, if he wasn't so potentially damaging to people's livelihoods he would be worth keeping around for the car-crash value alone.

It was unavoidable. The guy is obviously a sociopath, and thus will most inevitably have his schemes fall apart because he is unable of foreseeing the consequences for his actions.

spose. I wouldn't use it, though.

I'd probably use cautious, or sensible.

I don't know about you guys, but this is actually very disappointing. Like many of you, I was so looking forward to Mirrors, that new game from Edge. Like everyone else, I was totally prepared to be amazed. Now my life is full of empty. :(

That is not only harsh, but almost certainly false. Given the circumstances it is almost certainly Apple and not Mobigames who pulled the game from the store.

But it's impossible to find information for it, because when I googled for Mirrors Edge I kept getting EA's game. Damn that trademark infringing company!

Just to be sure, this is sarcasm. In case that person tries to use this. lol

Just downloaded. I would like to personally thank langdell. If it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't know about this game.

brb, fleeing

I got hooked on the IGDA thread about Langdell and spent hours straight reading about the incredible amount of bullshit this guy pulled before finally having the spotlight shone upon his activities. I will be delighted to watch EA bury him and his farcical business for good. At this point his reputation is already worth less than a hooker with leprosy at a germaphope convention, now they need to just pull the rug out from underneath all his trademarking shenanigans.

legally - can namco or anyone else who fell for this and paid up actually pursue him for fraud? gotta figure mobigames could go after lost wages if they were so inclined, id think.

A company the size of EA will never launch something that huge without having all their ducks in a row. That's why they hire an army of lawyers to filter everything through, first. These cases never work for the whack-job plaintiffs.

I think that will depend on what the result of the case is (I know my way around UK law, which is similar, but I don't know the intricacies in the US).

In particular, if the trademarks are held to have been validly granted but invalidly renewed, it will depend on which renewal is held to be invalid and whether they are cancelled from the date of judgment, from the date of invalid renewal, or reassigned or whatever.

It seems likely that TL will have been acting within his rights for any period where the trademarks were valid - so there is probably a lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

Arguably the best tactic for TL would be to give up quickly by failing to file a defense this month - it will be interesting to see what happens.

I guess I am a little late to post this, now that the thread has been deleted but....

Earlier today, Tim Langdell from EDGE posted on the Game Developers page on LinkedIn. For those that do not know, LinkedIn is a social network for business professionals. The Game Developers page features over 19,000 professionals in the games industry - just about anyone you can think of is on it.

At any rate, developers can post their job hirings for $195.00 per 30 day posting. Langdell had posted a thread looking for iPhone/360/PS3/PC/Wii developers.

The following is the complete transcript from the posts. Hilarity ensues.

* Programmers with expertise in procedural graphic coding on any platform.
* Coders with expertise using the Unreal Engine.

Why are you still pretending you are a game developer? You have no dev status on Wii/DS/Ps3 or Xbox and your offices are a mail box....EA are about to shut you and your Edge scam down for good and you could well end up in jail for your perjury.

Anyone even remotely tempted to respond should read www.chaosedge.wordpress.com

Enough already Tim, the whole world knows you're not a games developer, apart from you it seems. Time you stopped this!

Tim, have you paid the other developers who took you to court after you failed to pay them?
There are many other questions you have not answered Tim.

There is no truth to what either of you say and we note again the deliberate damage you two are trying to cause Edge Games. Edge has been active as a developer/publisher for the past 30 years, and as you know currently has a new game in release with several further games in development. We are authorized Nintendo (Wii/DS) developers and we are PS3 developers, too. We are also authorized Apple iPhone developers and despite what you say we the reality is we have several XBOX360 titles in development. EA's futile attempt to cancel our trademarks will fail since it has no basis in fact or law. No developers ever took Edge Games to court over a failure to pay them, and so far no one has been able to send us anything that shows there was any truth to that. Of the several hundred developers and artists who have worked for Edge over the past 30 years the vast majority have been entirely happy with the experience they had working with us.

"we"? How does 1 man working with photoshop (badly) out of a mail box get to use the royal we?

I never mentioned Iphone, anyone can be an Iphone developer for $99. Even me. XNA also provides a way to the Xbox but you are not a developer...you can't be..not running from a mail box..We all know this, and so do you. Don't try to hide from the point..you do not have developer status on Wii,DS.PS3 or Xbox360. You are not therefore in any position to offer work to anyone who is qualified to work on those consoles.

Tim, stop...seriously, I am starting to think you must be ill, you've been exposed totally. And the more you continue to parade these grandiose delusions that you are an important figure in the games industry the more we will point out the simple facts that show you are not. In that way the development community you've been living off vicariously for years now will eventually shed itself of you.

Edge Games is a shell, a sham, a non entity you've kept going for years to give you some sense of importance that your output simply does not justify.

There can't be a developer left who does not know that.

You can make these bold statements till the cows come home the facts are quite simple. EA will shut you down, your lies have been exposed and the more you protest them, the more retribution for them will come your way.

The whole world knows you for what you are...when are YOU going to realize this?

Again, you are wrong. Edge Games is an authorized developer for Wii/DS, etc. Your saying Edge is not a developer does not make it a fact no matter how many times you say it. That you totally ignore the fact Edge currently has a game in release reveals that you have no goal other than to cause damage to Edge Games no matter how many facts you have to ignore to achieve your twisted objective. I note you repeated the lie about two programmers suing Edge Games and once again fail to provide any evidence that happened. It did not and you know it did not.

I AM a registered developer...I can check..I did,...you are not.

I know its not easy for others to get hold of this information, so you can make this claim fairly confident others cannot check it...but I can, I have, the fact is you are the liar...and you don't seem to realize the game is up.

Your game in release...ie Racers? is actually Voltage a previously released game, your ownership of which is questionable, and you've sold....0 copies...a fact provable by the invoice numbers received by two ChaosEdge users. You've not actually delivered the copy of Racers that was ordered..so I really don't see how that qualifies as a game in release?

The more you attempt to justify your ridiculous claims the easier it is for myself and others to disprove them.

You're a psychologist...tell me, why do people who get caught telling lies insist on repeating the lie over and over again hoping that at least someone will believe them?

This was approximately 3-4 hours ago. I have just received word that the thread has been deleted by Mr. Langdell. Unfortunately, I can't provide a link to the thread thanks to it's deletion, but you can see that it's been deleted here:

Awesome!

That really is outstanding. I've been compiling all the info on Tim I can for a paper I have to write for my ethics class. I want to look at patent and trademark squatters and the ethical questions involved. I think Tim have given plenty of material this year alone.

That was such an awesome read. Thanks for sharing it.

It's nice to see that even the development community knows and acknowledge that he's a piece of trash, and he'll definitely get what he deserves.

EDIT: And go Brian Beuken!!! If you ever read this, that was AWESOME!!!
