EDM-gaf, I'll probably be dj'ing a student party pretty soon. A friend of mine is in the party commission of his student association. I'm mostly into UK House and Techno, but because there will be all kind of students they don't want me to spin too underground which I understand. I simply refuse to play stuff like Afrojack and Avicii because I fucking hate it with a passion (no offense if I offend someone's music taste...).

Anyway, some stuff I'm planning to play is Alex Metric, Disclosure, Tchami, Shadow Child, Friend Within, Kavsinky, Justice, Daft Punk, AC Slater, Mat Zo and some classics.

Anyway, my question is: I'm looking for some dope remixes of popular songs. Energetic, jackin' tunes and not boring slow Deep House stuff. For example:

Mercer x Blur - Song 2
Kanye West - Gold Digger (Wuki bootleg)
Sum 41 - In To Deep (Kasum Remix)
The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Marco V Remix)

yeah, I know some of those stuff is pretty corny. :p

I could understand if you don't want to stay too mainstream in your set but in my opinion and experience nothing gets me off the dance floor faster than a pop/rock track remixed as a dubstep/edm track. Nothing. I was at an outdoor fest last weekend and this guy opened up his set with a Slipknot EDM track and my body physically refused to dance so we bailed and came back half an hour later. At one point in the last part of his set he did a JOURNEY song and again I just froze up and walked off. Granted the festival was in the midwest and he was "playing to the base" but nobody was square-dancing in cowboy boots so fuck that. I saw Slipknot in concert. In the year 2000. I don't want to be reminded of that.

What I do personally think is "cute" are popular remixes in alternative styles that are unexpected, rather than just binding X popular thing from Y years go to Z popular thing from right now.

Like this - Royal Krishna - although admittedly there is nothing "hype" about this and it is not what you were asking for whatsoever.

So I go to college in Syracuse and there's not exactly a lot of events around, but there's a lot of guys I wanna see in Boston, NYC, and Rochester in August/September. The problem is ticket costs and gas money ads up, and I don't really feel like traveling that much (even Rochester is an hour and a half away).

What do people think of EZoo? I'm thinking of just going for the Saturday and calling it a day instead of going all over for a lot of smaller shows, since a couple artists I was gonna see anyway are playing that day. I feel like that'd be much better value for money.

Really enjoyed Worlds, but it definitely isn't really dance music anymore. I wonder how the live show will work when he does his tour.

WOW I love this album. But yeah it's definitely not dance music, he said he wanted to move away from that. And that's okay, he's doing what he wants to do, and doing it well

I'm going to make a thread in OT for it.

Good shout

Fellow Feeling, Goodbye to a World, Years of War and the opener are my favourites

Such a fantastic album more I listen to it. And so clearly a Porter album. Love it

Angello is gonna do well to have Wild Youth beat this one out!

And Madeon/Arty. Great year

MAGIC! - Rude (Zedd Remix)

EDIT: Starts at 1:08. For those wondering the track before is Skrillex - Recess (Valentino Khan Remix)

Ripped from his Lollapalooza set. Much better than his last few releases for sure.

Another unreleased track here from Madeon ripped from his EDC Vegas set that will probably be on his new album. Honestly this will probably be my favorite album of the year.

Madeon - ID

More like North America needs to get their shit together. European festivals have way less amount of OD.

Guess I won't be listening to GDJB and ASOT live anymore. I could deal with it when it was just the one commercial encouraging people to upgrade to DI Premium, but I got that, followed by a Toys R Us commercial, followed by a Wal Mart commercial as soon as I tuned in this morning.

Fuck that.

They're actually running commercials for other companies now?

Wow.

Luckily my ISP gets all DI Premium channels for free via a mirror.

yeah, more ads than usual yesterday with GDJB and ASOT. Can live with it but it sucks.

What?? Explain...

My ISP has contracts with various online stations so we get a massive mirror with all of the channels

That's about 1/5th of the list, the part I actually use.

It's great for recording, just chuck the source in to Streamripper and away I go.

Electric Zoo said:
After consulting with our medical and security experts, we determined the safest way for fans to hydrate during the concert is by using the free cups provided at our high-speed water stations positioned throughout the festival. Any drink containers purchased inside the venue can also be used at these water stations without charge. CamelBaks present a safety issue and are prohibited, as they can easily be used to store illicit materials. Our number one priority is the safety and health of all concertgoers. If you see someone who needs rehydration, alert an Electric Zoo staff member or security personnel immediately.

Funny how they're going out of their way to make the festival safe for everyone and then do this. Fail as fuck.
