ELDEN RING |OT| One Ring To Rule Them All

I love the Souls community (except the Git Gud part). Myazaki really succeed to create a big community speaking constantly about their games thanks to their cryptic nature and unique atmosphere.

Hope you can come back to the game quickly.

I have done Castle Sol and just arrived in the consecrated Snowfield. I will only do the 3 big optional bosses (Malenia, Placidusax and Mogh) before going for the ending. I'll go for the classic one with the Fia's variation.
I just finished Castle Sol yesterday, it was a nice mini-dungeon. Will travel to the snowfields today, I heard there are some rough invading enemies there.

I managed to beat Commander Niall on my first try albeit with the help of the mimic tear. Quite enjoyable boss with some unique moves. I guess he serves as the mini-boss of the whole mountaintops region, since you unlock an achievement for defeating him.

I’m getting closer to the endgame bosses and starting to feel a bit nervous about it.

Commander Niall can be pretty hard. It took me quite some tries on my first run.

There is some hard bosses in were you're going ^^ But you can manage it for sure :)
 
The giant pot on chains?
After you cross the chains and circle around the left of the pot you will find a site of grace and after interacting with the Maiden you will be whisked away to Farum Azula.

As for the puppet you need to join the cult of Ranni the Witch at the Three Sisters at the peak of the Carian Palace and get introduced to a member named Seluvis. After you speak to him at Seluvis' Rise he will task you with giving a potion to Nepheli Loux. However, you should give it to Dung Eater inside his cell at Subterranean Shunning Grounds instead. After telling Seluvis you did the deed, finding his hidden underground laboratory in the ruins below Ranni's Rise, and talking to him some more he will trade you his puppet for Starlight Shards.

P.S. If you want Dung Eater's sword you will need to interact with Dung Eater at the Roundtable Hold to receive the key to his cell. Find him in his cell and talk to him. Read a note from him at the Roundtable Hold. Then interact with the Blackguard sitting by the pond near Auriza Hero's Grave multiple times and reload until you trigger an invasion by Dung Eater. If you want his filthy armor, then you just have to kill him inside his cell immediately after choosing the prompt to give him the potion.

P.S.S. The prompt to give Dung Eater the potion did not come up in my playthrough until after the invasion. Giving Ranni the treasure of Nokron locks you out of giving the potion and buying the puppet. There are probably other conditions that can make Dung Eater unattainable in the same playthrough.

Totally agree on the community. I think I read an interview with Miyazaki around the time DS1 launched and he was talking about that vision of a community slowly unraveling the world together as they progressed and how the whole invasion/defense/message systems was the very first thing he decided upon even back when he was planning DeS. The whole multiplayer side of things basically that drastically evolved with DS1. But it goes deeper than that and I see so many people swear they only play in offline mode but they're just as vocal as online players in the Discords and on the forums and that sort of conversation on third-party platforms about the core game, whether its gameplay mechanics, tactics, lore, etc., is pretty cool. The Firelink Pub Discord is still super active to this day on topics from Bloodborne to DS1 even. Love this community.

But yeah, fuck the Git Gud crowd ... gives the whole community a bad name. You can always brute force stuff but there's always a better way than banging your head against the wall. Sadly I'm stubborn so I do that all the time!

Actually we spoke about Commander Niall not Niel. It's a different one. Niall is more challenging

Sure you can. As long as you are not engaging an enemy and have rested at a site of grace there, you should be able to fast travel.

Just booted up and i can fast travel indeed. Last night to even going back to where you arrive in Farum everything had a red stripe. Weird.

I'm certain situations you can’t fast travel after you’ve been reported until you rest. If you fast traveled without resting, you’d have no way of getting back there and you’d be soft locked

I loaded up an early “idea” character that I never got anywhere with and had some good fun with it. It’s a Beast theme, so my weapon is Cinquedea and I only use incantations I get from Gurranq. Stats are simple, just strength for scaling and little bits of faith when needed. Cinq and the Seal both boost Beast incantations. And can be gotten extremely early (1 Deathroot then Gurranq, then drop down behind his house).

Thanks to patch 1.06, the Cinq’s locked skill of Quick Step is now a blessing. Between the fairly high poise damage of the basic spell and QS letting me dodge about a lot, it can be quite an aggressive play style and all of the back stabs/criticals mean for the first time I’m running both regen dagger talismans. I’m pretty squishy as it’s just a loincloth for some extremely minor fashion but I’m otherwise naked (Dancer talisman when I get slot 3). I haven’t quite mastered perfect positioning for a QS back stab yet, but it’s an effective dodge for circling. Not OP, so it takes some timing.

Yeah but even after finding en and resting... got be be.... but maybe not... I mean it's after the dragon fight that you find the bonfire right? Must've rested... anyways shit works so.

Those deathblight depresssive rastafarians are no joke. Even with my best vitality talisman and incantation. I mean, when you trigger a couple it's run Boboboth, run!

1vs1 is A OK though. Got my bell so can ignore the water part. Now to climb that ladder.

Need 2 more levels for Rivers of blood. The fire and push you off the cliff wind sweeping asshole fire dragon's head is hard to hit with the ultra greatsword. Seeing I'm so close to RoB I'll stop upgrading the Uchikatana for the moment. So I'll do some sneaky sleepy kill runs first before heading back to assdrag(on)

So I am in front of Malenia's fog wall. Let's how my strength, fat rolling, colossal weapons warrior hold against her xD

Haligtree is really a area I don't like in term of difficulty. Everything hits much harder than the rest of the game and a lot of "unfair" situation (reduced space, mobility, scarlet rot...)... very Demon's Souls like.

I’ve got the Platinum !


So Malenia is manageable in fat roll BUT her Waterflow attack is really annoying to the point, after 1h30, I resigned myself to summon help. This attack just removes all the fun I have learning how to counter her moveset. It’s a kind of “Shut up, I win” card for her.

Then I went for Placidusax. And damn ! This fight is so EPIC ! It’s definitely the TOP 1 boss fight of the game for me. The intense music (very “Games of Thrones”), the visual and power of the boss itself… Sooo good ! I had a big smile on my face all along the fight. Perfection !

Then the final boss… As already said here, the first part is cool and the second one… pure annoyance. It’s a shame because I really enjoy the visuals, the lore and the music of it but the fight itself is so, SOOO annoying. Summoned help for it (I hate this fight like no other).

I’ll put the game aside for a bit now. But I will come back to it. So many builds I want to test :

  • “Green Arrow” Bows/Throwing dagger
  • “Lady Death” Scythe and death/rancor sorceries
  • “Lighting warrior” Lighting incantations and weapons
  • “Golden Order” “golden” incantations
  • "Solid Snake" focus on stealth with incantations like "Darkness" and lure abilities
  • “Paladin” focus on healing, holy and tankyness
  • “Pyromancer” focus on fire incantations
  • “Vicious samurai” katanas with frost/blood/poison
and the list goes on...


I still follow this thread ;)

Still playing, still nowhere near done with this game. I'm at about 100 hours (had it since launch), which may sound small but is more than I've found time to put into any other game in years. I'll probably still be on my first-and-only playthrough until at least the end of this year, given how much time I have for it in a week.

  • Not only do I need to do a proper one of these, I also want to do great bows since I found out you can put ashes of war on them (started watching a challenge run yesterday)
  • Haven't tried this, sounds fun and unique. Shame enemies are immune to deathblight, but easy access to some gear makes this viable
  • I have one of these ongoing and it's great fun. Quite a bit of riding round to start with, but it picks up nicely when you start getting heavy hitter spells
  • Tried this, and unless you're mixing it with other spells or going heavy melee it's not great. Too many bosses resist holy damage and all the spells are in end-game areas
  • Sounds super interesting! I never did the lure stuff, but it's there and should go nicely with a heavy backstab, the Misericorde comes to mind here. The Staff of Loss being easy to grab one helps, too. You'll get to find out which enemies are scripted turn arounds when you are invisible. You could also mix in sleep from St Trina's Torch/Blade to be like the tranq weapons in MGS
  • You'll never die, especially if you wear an Icon shield on your back for additional healing
  • Fire is always fun, especially when you mix in black flame. Radagon is weak to fire too
  • Can't go wrong with mixing up status effects!

There's an idea I've been thinking about for a while, and I probably mentioned it before, but I want to do a heavy consumable focused character. Pump all my stats into vigor and buying consumables. Explosive rocks, craftable pots, poison clumps, throwing knives, sleep bolts, etc. Could either have a scarlet rot weapon or St Trina's blade for backup. I've seen a challenge run of just pots for damage, so expanding it is definitely doable.

For the Death build, I destined it more for PvP (mainly invasion).

That's my fear for the Golden Order build. Everything is late in the game and lot of Holy resistance.

I tested a little bit some Lure stuff on my first run. I really want to investigate it more. Also all the concealing stuff. Curious to see if it really change the gameplay. Sad it will not change the bosses. Adding Sleep is a nice idea.

I also want to do a heavy consumable. Might do it with my bow build.

The Fully Grown Fallingstar beast in Volcano manor is getting on my nerves.
Come back later when you're stronger, you'll find it more manageable.

It's one of those bosses that I consider to be a waste of time if you fight them the first time you encounter them... it's possible, but it'll take an absurd amount of time.

I've seen people defeat the Tree Sentinel right after starting the game, but it took them hours upon hours to do it. Just not worth it imo.

I finally beat him after buffing my bloodfang a bit. That is my go to weapon.

I dislike Farum Azula. From a distance it looks like it is possible to jump between many areas even though it is a lie. Everything is technicallly so close, but you have to go around in vertical and horizontal loops to get anywhere. You have a bunch of enemies throwing daggers, magic, and arrows your way as you are trying to make sense of where you are. And worst of all it hides a path to a boss so well that if it was not for a guide you would not find it in 20 playthroughs.

Still better than Lake of Rot though.

P.S. Surprised to hear about the dislike of Haligtree. I thought the area was good enough to be standalone DLC.
