ELDEN RING |OT| One Ring To Rule Them All

Abyss Watchers done.

Inside Lothric above where Emma sits (she gave you a banner to enter the Undead Settlement) there is a stairway to the left that leads to an elevator down to the Consumed King's Garden. If you beat the boss, there is a small area behind him with a false wall at the end that leads to a dark mirrored version of the tutorial area. The merchant there sells it at a premium.
I’ve been meaning to go and talk to her again.

Finally gave up and checked how to get to lake of rot. I passed next to that coffin in deeproot depths like 10 times and didn't spot it lmao.
Nokstella and lake are pretty cool, still keep getting amazed how much content they put in the game. And all of it is good to excellent. Incredibly well made game.

What in the flying fuck is this tank enemy that guards Malekith fight?

Not to mention Malekith's 2nd stage. What am I supposed to do there? Dude is a fucking ninja with an insane aim and damage.

Can't do shit on that stage besides hiding behind a pillar and wait for a to kill me eventually.

Seriously, after a days work I just wanna chill, not stress myself even more :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I find that to be possibly the most annoying boss in the game. I found myself saying "will you let me fight please?" multiple times as he was just jumping from pillar to pillar, not staying on the ground more than a few seconds. Ridiculous guy.

Dude I'm cheesing my way through the end game bosses with Mohg's staff, and I've been pretty much breezing through all of them, including Malenia, but this guy 2nd stage, holy shit.

Even hiding behind pillars is pointless, his range attacks go all boomerang on me and wipe my ass.

I've read somewhere that you are supposed to use an item called Blasphemous Claw, which appearantly does some type of countering for his 2nd stage. I've try to use, but it didn't counter anything at all. Maybe my timing was off, I don't know.

And for the love of god, the tank unit before him...I try to bring him near the stairs in order to go down and use Mohg's staff, it's like the motherfucker knows what I want to do and starts to effectively countering me :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If you need to wait to summon your mimic, do so. It's more useful after the first beast boss. I never bothered with the claw.

What's your primary damage stat?

Even using mimic I'm struggling, almost seems like during his 2nd stage he multi targets like a maniac.

I'll eventually beat him, I've come really close, It's a matter of luck I guess.

My build revolves around Bleed and Dragon incantations basically. I can rough him up pretty quickly if I'm able to use Mogh's staff.

But that's the thing about the staff actually, it's kind of slow to build up and Malekith is extremely quick on his own.

Rivers of Blood katana was what I used on NG+2.

Finally beat Mr. Tank NPC and Malekith.

Breezed through Gideon and I'm now stuck on Ragadon. Just let me finish the game already! :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Hate Radagon's aoe attacks. Still don't know how to dodge them all.

I think I am slowly getting over the game. Did most of the areas I believe. Still haven't finished Leyndell underground completely, but I saw it through coops.
Been mostly cooping the last few days, but the magic is starting to wear off a bit.

It's going to be a challenge finding something as engaging to play. Will probably try surge 2.

Man the difficulty really spikes in the later bosses, seems like they reprogrammed their AI, one hit from you and they automatically shift their attention to you.

Radagon is insane. You can kind of predict and get better against his attacks with time, but the speed he has in changing targets is a huge pain.

My strategy to use my mimic as bait is falling apart hardly.

And after him it's another boss without a grace stop. Great.

But I like his fight. OST is chefs kiss.

EDIT: Any gaffer out there good enough to help me / carry me on Radagon and Elden Beast so I can finish the game? Been trying for the last 4 hours to go through both and no success :messenger_tears_of_joy:.

Gotta farm the item to summon players, because just yesterday I used about 15 of them to summon players to help me. No success.

Although I got paired with an extremely good guy that almost soled Elden Beast. Dude was insanely good.

Wish I could have kept track of his PSN ID :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Ahh shit, I'm on PC. I don't think there's cross play.

Do you have your mimic ash leveled all the way? What's your character level at?

Yap, it's max level.

I'm currently at level 161. I know it should be enough :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Maybe I should rebuild my character to be more tankier, because one hit from Radagon and there goes a huge chunk of my health.

Although I can damage him decently with my Bleed Build + Dragon Incantantions. Magma works well on him.

Elden Beast I find a pain in the ass to damage, specially when my mimic goes into derp mode against it.

I never finished elden ring last year, got stuck on Godskin duo and mohgwyn. Started new game this year and having lots of fun.

Is there something you guys would recommend for samurai build? What side quests to do?

Currently using dual uchigatanas

Why not pick up the old save? You can respect at almost no cost.

I tried but those two bosses weren't any fun. I used fully upgraded blasphemous blade for mohgwyn and it was pretty much impossible. New game allows me to do lot of the missed content i didnt get to see on first playtrough.

What level is that character at?

For Godskin Duo, use sleep pots. There's a bonfire right next to them as well, if you're having trouble getting to them.
For Mohg, use the tear in your physick flask that negates his crazy attack during the second phase. There's also a shackle for him if you need extra help.

108 iirc.

Yeah I know about those, but I just wanted to do new game really.

I also went with Samurai and ended up doing a Bleed build. Started with Dual Uchigatanas but I would recommend shifting to Eleonora's Blade paired with some Dragon Incantations down the road. It's what I rocked most of the time and it's pretty funny to play with.

Later down the road you can easily shift into other weapons also like Mohg's Staff or Rivers of Blood too, which are also extremely OP and work well with Bleed Builds.

Just bare in mind that while doable, the final boss has resistance to bleed, and in my case I had to clutch in an INT build to go throw them (It did the job but it's not as fun as the Bleed Build I had).

I'm tempted to shelve DS3 and just go back to a second 100% play through of Elden Ring. :messenger_weary:
You're not liking ds3?

I find it, along with other souls games, a bit too oppressive. Downloaded DeS remake and gave it a try after only playing the original 5-6 years ago. It's really nice looking and the dual sense vibration/feedback is excellent, but it's so depressing. It's dark, gloomy and there's no music whatsoever throughout the levels. I really have to be in a mood for game like that, and it seems the older I get, the less and less that happens.

It's not that ER is the embodiment of happiness, but it's much more vibrant place, with light music In each area. It also doesn't feel nearly as "claustrophobic" as DeS feels. Might just take a break from this genre for a while and continue Rdr 2.

Finishing Elden Ring made me realize I need to dedicate time and explore Dark Souls on PS5, even more considering I never played the original.

But I won't jump to it right away, I can't for the love of god survive two souls games in a row :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It’s fine but I’m still in love with ER. :messenger_loudly_crying:

Agreed. DS3 is extremely claustrophobic. I keep meaning to go back and finish a NG+ game I have going on but it's difficult to leave the Lands Between, which now kinda feels like home in the same way the Mushroom Kingdom and Novigrad do.

I like how bright DS1 is outside. It makes it more creepy but in a less oppressive manner.

Thinking about it, DS3 has become a little irrelevant now.

Yeah, for me there's nothing overtly wrong with DS3 but everything is slightly to vastly superior in Elden Ring. Like Mortal Kombat 1 to MK2.

I finally finished watching Gab Smolders' play through of ER so maybe not seeing it all the time will help me like blinders on a horse.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
I'm sure a lot you already knows this guys channel. And I never PVP. But somehow it showed up in my recommendations and it was very entertaining. Funny dude imo!

Finally completed the Cathedral of the Deep and beat the Deacons of the Deep on my first try (they’re just like the first phase of Rennala). Whew! I’m never going back here lol.

But seriously, who thought it was a good idea to add a platforming section in a game where you can’t jump at will? I died so many times trying to roll down from the rafters to the hall that leads to the bonfire. Truly a classical Dark Souls gameplay section. Thankfully I realized I can save time by running past the enemies on my way instead of fighting.

Best thing about this area is finding the Astora greatsword. Onto the Farron Keep!

This is the way.

What annoys me about the Cathedral of the Deep is that the item acquired after defeating the boss is required to venture into Irythill. It would have been fine as a side area, but they just could not help putting a magical barrier around Irythill to gate off story progression.

Made another new character. Two weapons that I used before, but didn't really appreciate at the time.

Bloody Helice & Eleonora's Poleblade

I'm all about fun L2s these days, and Bloody Helice was something I only ever used in the left hand before so I never appreciated it. I didn't know that the spin part has i-frames, so naturally I'm using it a lot for flashy play. It also has a pretty decent amount of poise damage.
EP I added in because it fits the theme and the stat requirements were almost met by using BH. I'm still not a huge fan of it for the most part, although the L2 can hit pretty hard if you get the opportunity to get the second input in.

Going back to my Grafted Dragon build, I recently found out that buffing the right hand applies the buff to the GD's L2 (likely an unpatched bug), so I'm using greases and hitting bosses with Frost/Bleed fire. I wish I knew about it before, but it's good to know now. Might start the whole thing again and Rot fire everything.

Bro, I felt like a god fighting Sulyvahn. It was only my second attempt and I hadn't gotten him down to the second phase so that was a shocker. Played poorly through the middle of the fight but ended with 4 flasks to spare.

It's so weird, when I first got DS3 I thought I was pretty good thanks to DS1, but I got my arse handed to me and bosses like Sulyvahn were tough at the time. Even repeat playthroughs were "Okay, here we go again..." type affairs. But looking at him now I don't think I'd have too much trouble, it's like you see the combat differently. Maybe it's because of hundreds of extra hours of Souls combat experience and it's all fundamentally the same, or maybe it's because ER is faster for the most part. Who knows, I guess I'll have to fight him for myself to see.

Either way, good job. Being in the zone is the best feeling in these games

Bosses are really annoying in Elden Ring. The more I coop the more I see it. I know it has been mentioned in a bunch of critique videos, but I didn't think about it that much on my first playthrough. They have too long combos, too short recovery, large aoe attacks, laughably delayed attacks, too fast attacks, etc. It makes it really hard to react naturally to the fights as you'll probably miss most of the timings or miscalculate your openings.

I miss fights like Fume Knight, which was a joy to fight and I did it probably 20+ times. Margit is especially ridiculous. He has one stick attack that's delayed so much I laughed a few times.

There are some bosses that would be so much fun but are completely ruined by just one move - either ridiculous AoE attacks or, what bugs me more, under-telegraphed attacks that punish you for being aggressive.

For example, if you do a jumping heavy attack after staggering Draconic Tree Sentinel, there is one move in maybe five he’ll respond with that is too quick for you to parry - you’re still recovering from the attack. It wouldn’t annoy me if 80% of the time you did have time to recover and parry - it becomes a gamble.

Other annoying things are gank attacks, which ruin Commander O’Neil, who would be otherwise very fun, and arenas with shit everywhere that you keep banging into.

I’m doing a RL1 run and doing so has really shown the level of variation in quality. Some of the I could fight over and over again all day long.

Yeah, it really does seem that the game punishes you for being aggressive (at least at the skill level I play).
Some of the most fun bosses ended up being the lower level evergoal ones. Crucible knight, zamor dude and the likes. You're still fairly weak so they pose a challenge, but their moveset is really fun to react to. They don't hit too fast and there's plenty of time to react and punish.

I see it from both sides. It's annoying to adapt to, but From like to catch players out by changing things with each new release so that it's not too easy. In ER they went all in on delayed attacks to punish a reliance on panic rolling. I have to resist the urge to jump in, because I inevitably get caught because I'm too close (fast attacks) or too greedy.

Margit and some others definitely have some long combos that will ruin you and catch rolling, but in Margit's case it's a lesson to stay away and pick your moments - something that has always been the intent of Souls combat. React, don't act. Aggression comes later when you gain confidence.

I find the real problem fights to be ones where you can be comboed without a chance. Godskin Nobles, for example. They can knock you down then hit you with an instant Noble Presence while you're down. If it doesn't instantly kill you, the Black Flame DoT will likely finish you off while you're suffering the animation of being launched. GN is also an example of poor hitboxes, with that roll having more reach than it should. I'm pretty sure other enemies have phantom range too, like Crucible Knights' lunge.

I get that, but when a boss raises their weapon to hit, my instinct is to roll. But then it takes another 1-2 seconds for the boss to drop the weapon down. I don't consider that panic rolling, I saw an attack starting and I rolled. Panic rolling would be if the boss moves in any way and I immediately start rolling. At least that's how I view it.

I agree with that, I just find it difficult to react. In an ideal boss fight, I could stand next to boss and not move away until they're done. I'm simplifying a bit, but I'm trying to say that I would be able to roll and then roll/attack, all the time. But some combos are so quick that I find the best way of avoiding damage is to be far away from the boss. Which I don't find fun :/. Maybe I'm just playing it wrong, but I felt a lot more satisfied while dealing with bosses in DS1, DS2 and DS3 (if I'm remembering it correctly).

AoE attacks suck balls but you should try jumping some that catch you if you haven’t already.

Gofrey’s stomps, for instance, become laughable once you wire your brain to jump them. Although the delays in the stomps can be lol.

Struggling a bit against Godrick on lvl1 playthrough. Never really mastered him bcus I think everytime I've been a bit too overlevelled for him. Was able to get him to phase 2 despite being still a bit Sekiro mode.

Jumping is so alien at first, but it's good advice. Once you learn that the hitbox becomes only your top half, you can dodge a lot.

I've seen some very optimised fights against Godfrey and Radagon, and people will get in combos between the multi-part attacks. Normally I don't dare do more than one if any.
