RDR2, BotW, MGS5 all have good scores on metacritic. I hope Elden Ring isn't yet another overhyped open world game.
Of those, only one I would consider overhyped in regards to rewarding players for their time. Hell one is BARELY an open-world game.

Mine for ACG
Rated it a buy. It has some issues that did impact just how easily it was to jump into and experience what was played, but none of that stopped me from having an utter blast!

I'm literally in the same boat as you. Always appreciated the artistry, but was worried about accessibility. But this level of critical acclaim is pushing me towards purchasing sooner rather than later. I'm very happy for the developers.
Yeah, I hope you're right. As long as it has Sekiro/Bloodborne levels of quality it should be super good. It's going to be more Souls. Probably the best Souls game, but not exactly something you haven't seen before. But Souls games are all very good. Just going to be fun exploration, fun fights, and a cool dark setting.
You don't get scores at this level by accident. It's going to be extremely good.
I only have a XSX, but I'm curious about XSX VS PS5. The Game on a RTX 3090 would be a dream though...PC wins, simples
Just buy it on all 3 like me! now I can co op and have multiple builds on different consoles.
Stay strong brother! Don't let others think you're crazy - you're not alone. I too think it's 6,5/10 game on a sunny day.I feel like I'm in the Matrix, and the only person that's actually unplugged, but this game quite literally looks nowhere as good as what these scores suggest. I've watched hours and hours of footage trying to see what the fuss is all about, and I'm just not seeing it.
From the moment this game was shown everything about it seemed heavily manufactured even though I found the art style and visual direction to be great.
But yea, I'm not buying in at all. I await to see if someone can show me what makes this game so special because usually I'm quite good at feeling out games, and so far those instincts have come back with nothing.

Helps when it's still easily the gold standard for gameplay. How can a game that looked like the same gameplay more or less than what has been done for a decade before get a 97? I’ll get the game it but it’s just … wow.
Nothing is spoiler free and everyone has different ideas. I can say that I don't show any boss fights, just the overview when I beat them so you can see what happens, and some monsters. All reviews were held to the first 2 subsections of the entire world. Not watching shit until I beat the game, but on the other hand I always love your reviews, so... Would you say it's spoiler free if I just listen to it?

From games are overhyped because of the fantastic art design and interesting Lore. I've yet to have literally anyone tell me whats special from a gameplay, A.I or story perspective. So you are not alone.I feel like I'm in the Matrix, and the only person that's actually unplugged, but this game quite literally looks nowhere as good as what these scores suggest. I've watched hours and hours of footage trying to see what the fuss is all about, and I'm just not seeing it.

So "God works in mysterious ways" basically.I think this is why you don't see it. You can't really "see" the greatness of a Souls game. It's in the experience. You have to dive in to it and experience the whole package. If you read some reviews you'll see that the scores aren't based upon looks but on something else. If you take the backseat and try to "feel out" these kind of games from other people/videos you will never get their greatness. They are meant to be experienced first hand.
Because they are some of the best games ever made. How can a game that looked like the same gameplay more or less than what has been done for a decade before get a 97? I’ll get the game but it’s just … wow.
Glad to read this, guess I can take a peek even if it's just listening and not watching. Thanks! And congrats on your channel. All reviews were held to the first 2 subsections of the entire world.
Open another tab and just listen to the reviews, thats what I do most of the time. Not watching shit until I beat the game, but on the other hand I always love your reviews, so... Would you say it's spoiler free if I just listen to it?
Yeah, I think you're right. That is kind of the only new ingredient in this game. So they must have just nailed it, and just had the quality of content remain at a high level the whole time. From the reviews I've read it sounds like it's more Souls, but the transition to open world comes with a masterclass of open world structure and design like few other game son the market.

I genuinely think reviewers are having a laugh.
He is on a 1080. IGN confirms a couple of stutters, but the IGN 10 is still based on PC, so I expect the performance to be good.

ah, bad luck mate. Nah I have a super high end PC so I'll be playing mainly on PC but I have always done that with From Soft games bar Demons and Bloodborne.not my PC w/ integrated graphics. need to compare w/ similar priced products or get out.
I only have a XSX, but I'm curious about XSX VS PS5. The Game on a RTX 3090 would be a dream though...
Game seems to have come in a very unoptimized state at launch. Let's see what the day 1 patch brings.
Called that one after the Digital Foundry thread.Oh dear, fingers crossed for the Day one patch! Shrier was saying he had to go back to PC after trying the PS5 version so I think they are all going to be a bit dodgy at launch!
Not sure how many there are but FWIW that statement isn't entirely accurate. Review FOOTAGE can only show those areas, the reviewers could go as far as they wanted.Wait what? How many subsections are there
I played every single on of them. But after stating on ps3 the formula got stale … for me.Because they are some of the best games ever made.
It’s not single player tho.Critics are gushing over a highly anticipated AAA single player game?!
What.
Are.
The.
Odds?
(Hope the game is as good as they say, but Metacritic track record is too unreliable to me)

yes but jason said he had togo back to pc cause ps5 did not look as good. just wait and see, stop believing tweeteriansah, bad luck mate. Nah I have a super high end PC so I'll be playing mainly on PC but I have always done that with From Soft games bar Demons and Bloodborne.
I expect there will be some differences, with xbox being behind on launch day needing a few patches. seems like all games are coming in hot and a Japanese DEV will have focused on PS5 IMO.

You're the one that gave 10/10 to Halo infinite and you're not "feeling" for Elden Ring. Well i've watched some videos of Halo and i'm not feeling it either. But yeah I'm probably out of the Matrix as well.I feel like I'm in the Matrix, and the only person that's actually unplugged, but this game quite literally looks nowhere as good as what these scores suggest. There’s only one western developer who can make an open world game consistently that’s worth a damn: Bethesda.Sounds like the Japanese step in again and show the West how to do an open world game.
So much of the same old tired Ubisoft open world games and BOTW and now Elden ring just encapsulate a different level of magic.
I apologise, as I am just so fucking hyped!
Can't believe Ive bought three copies! hahaha
Well Bethesda hasn't made one in over a decade now either. There’s only one western developer who can make an open world game consistently that’s worth a damn: Bethesda.
