What does this even mean? Some games aren't to your taste and some are. You don't have some special power that determines whether games are objectively good or not, you just have preferences.

This game doesn't appeal to you, which is understandable. But that's all it is.

But seriously, great to see a master of his craft actually knock it out of the park. The scores are insane. The game must have a bit of magic about it.

On PS5. Not directed at you, but Metacritic is bad for aggregate reviews. Say what you will about OPENCRITIC's editorializing, but they at least can put together the wider picture of a game and include (to me) the more useful "Recommend" metric. A game might score high, but if only 75% of reviewers recommend it, that might be a red flag (not here, ER is at 100% from reviewers).

I think this is why you don't see it. You can't really "see" the greatness of a Souls game. It's in the experience. You have to dive in to it and experience the whole package. If you read some reviews you'll see that the scores aren't based upon looks but on something else. If you take the backseat and try to "feel out" these kind of games from other people/videos you will never get their greatness. They are meant to be experienced first hand.

performance mode is really bad on series x, it goes from 43-48 fps on average while on ps5 it goes from 55-60.
I hope day one patch fixes this issue, cause I only have xbox.

One thing I dislike.

I saw this a lot with previous From Software titles and Japanese RPGs, that when sites review then, they put the resident "specialist" on them.

The people who reviewed games like Persona 5 or Dragon Quest were all the resident waifu/anime-obsessed fanboys who loved long-drawn-out JRPGs. With FromSoftware, is always the big Bloodborne/Dark Souls fans who review these games.

I'd like to try Elden Ring and give it a chance, but the truth is I'm yet to play a From game that I like. Last one I tried was Sekiro (whose art style I find stunning, unlike the Souls) and I couldn't play for more than a couple of hours. I wonder if Elden Ring could make me change my mind about From. Or maybe their games are not for me, period.

I'm literally in the same boat as you. Always appreciated the artistry, but was worried about accessibility. But this level of critical acclaim is pushing me towards purchasing sooner rather than later. I'm very happy for the developers.

It's going to be more Souls. Probably the best Souls game, but not exactly something you haven't seen before. But Souls games are all very good. Just going to be fun exploration, fun fights, and a cool dark setting.

You don't get scores at this level by accident. It's going to be extremely good.
