Elder Scrolls IV Screens & Video (Eventually)

I don't quite understand why some companies don't release any videos......the more exposure the better I would imagine; so why not release anything other than a few screenshots over the course of a year. That E3 trailer was good but it was so damn short, please release something new, PLEASE!!!
I'm yearning for more!

I'm sure alot of developers don't want to ruin the surprise factor of a game.

I love how they're hyping up the fact that they have Patrick Stewart doing voices for the game but his character dies about 10 min after it starts though.

I don't care if it's just a vid of the main character walking down a road and getting on his horse to ride off.....no surprises there. Atleast it's something which is better than nothing.

Uh, excuse me?

ofcourse, because flashbacks and story development requires that the character be alive.

I started watching and had to stop myself. It looks amazing but I don't want to spoil it. This is one of my most anticipated games.

i've watched the streamable version, it doesn't really spoil anything, it just shows the character moving slowly in a forest environment, town, a couple dungeons...nothing you haven't already seen in pics, which is a good decision imho.

I heard there were some problems with the AI of the NPCs at the moment that's still being ironed out. I don't want it at launch if its buggy. I don't want to have to download patches left and right.

Speaking of NPCs.... what happens if I go into a city and kill everyone? What are the consequences? What, if any, are the rewards? Will people from the neighboring towns move to the city and repopulate it? Or will the city stay empty for the rest of the game?

Yeah, that was a huge problem with Morrowind. Xbox users were screwed since it wasn't patchable. I'm hoping to hear word of Oblivion on the 360 being patchable. If it's not, there better not no huge bugs in the shipping version.

It's a Bethesda game. There will be bugs.

I love the company to death, but let's be real.

I still remember how bad Daggerfall was. Not only were there periodic major patches that fixed borked quests and whatnot, there was an actual save-file-fixer utility that was pretty much required, for you to complete the game.

The story is your character is in jail, then the emperor goes to you and says save the world then he dies. I doubt that any additional flashbacks or story development would require that much more work on his part.

You should start marketing one of those 'Jump To Conclusions' board games from Office Space. Goes well with your character.

The point is that Bethesda is trying to make a big deal about the fact that they have Patrick Stewart in their game but the thing is he only has a bit role. Do you guys have the script for the game that details all his extensive dialogue or something?

No do you? Please point to the page where it says he's only a bit character.

How could he not be a bit character? He dies in the beginning of the game. So for basically the whole game he is not there. Have you guys played any other Elder Scrolls games? They're not very heavy on NPC development and Oblivion is supposed to improve on this but I don't expect him to follow you around and comment on everything that you're doing. Take Morrowind. Were there any NPCs that weren't bit characters? Caius Cosades or maybe Vivec and even they didn't have that many lines. And to get an actor like Stewart I doubt it was in the budget for him to have a large role. They got him to do the emperor's few lines and some marketing stuff (like the E3 trailer).

Its already been explained how. No one knows the extent of his involvement outside of Bethesda. Please do not assume to know.

RTFT......flashbacks, etc. There is magic in this game as well. Ever heard of it?

None of this may come to pass, but you slamming it without knowledge is to be ridiculed.

I'm just making the logical conclusion that a guy that isn't alive for the vast majority of a game will not have a large role in it, though of course I could be wrong.

wow, i was amazed at the video. i tried at least 3 times to get into morrowind but i just couldnt. i guess it was TOO open and i just wasnt sure what to do or where to go so i just got frustrated and gave up but this looks AMAZING.

Wow, such hostility. Didn't know I hit such a nerve with you guys. Geez.

In all of the 4 years that I've posted at gaming message boards, I've never seen someone so vehemontly argue against the size of a voice actor's role in a game.

It's a bit like complaining that Shigeru Miyamoto didn't personally oversee a certain 10 minute action sequence in the new Zelda.

In other words, no one cares.

i saw the video. The texures were good, but the ANIMATION and FRAME RATE were HORRIBLE!

i really hope those issues will taken care of by the time oblivion comes out. What build was hte video from?

Stevemeister says it's 5 months old

its really not bad the only thing bad is the framerate the rest is really impressive especially the radiant AI on the NPCs its quite impressive man.. quite impressive.

they literally play as if they were online other MMO players .. its very clever

This game looks and sounds phenomenal, IÂ’m sure it plays just as well too. Right now itÂ’s my most anticipated title out of all the next-gen games, canÂ’t wait for it to be released!

Damn that 20 minute video ROCKED.

Another X360 game to buy. The list is getting long.....

Me <3 tree sitty.

Considering IGN put the whole video online, no reason why I shouldn't too. I'm uploading it right now, it will be online in about 20 minutes.

amazing, i will spend hours walking in those forests.

This is confirmed 5 months old and running on alpha/beta kits right ?

This is 5 months old, so it's either alpha hardware or PC.

The IGN vids rock! They are by far the best quality. I can't believe how awesome this game looks. I would buy a 360 just for it alone now.

blim's video is actually better quality than ign's

Ahhh, this looks so engrossing. I just finished watching the entire video. 20 minutes of game preview, and I didn't get bored? It must be good. The score sounds so epic. I can imagine I'll just wander around in the woods for days, hunting deer and other nonsense. I can't wait.

Wow, the combat looks really interesting. I had my doubts but it seems they were unfounded. :D

Especially the section in the ancient elven dungeon, fantastic stuff.

It was an enjoyable watch and I'd agree, more devs/pubs should put these type of things out. My interest in this has gone from 0 to possible purchase. I'm not a fan of the others and in actual fact I probably won't be able to get into this. The graphics are lush (well the environments, the people leave a bit to be desired) and the physics look great. I do think though the NPC's animation is still so wooden and the animation of people and fighting seems to let it down a tad.
