What time is the parade? Too bad I have class all day on Tuesdays. My worst day. :\

Starts at 11 AM at Battery Park City and moves north along Broadway. There will be a rally at City Hall Park. Why they have a rally AFTER the team wins the championship is beyond me.

A thought on what the general public perceives Eli to be:

It's like the late George Young said about the fans who to booed Phil Simms. They primarily would see just the highlight clips of other QBs around the league and unfairly judge Simms' complete work against those highlights. They didn't see the other guy's bad throw.

With Eli it is the reverse. ESPN loves to show the bad shit he does and never any of the heroics that Giants fans get to see 3-4 times a year. Everyone just figured he was horrible. Nice way to prove the haters wrong.

Fun game ahead!

Hasselbeck's "We want the ball and we're gonna score!"

vs

Brady's "We're only going to score 17 points? Heh heh heh"

GO

By the way, I believe I owe you an apology. I'm almost positive I predicted the Giants O-Line to be a piece of shit this year in one of those offseason threads, along with you guys going 6-10. Don't I feel stupid now.

At least I didn't talk shit on Eli

Tiki Barber was a former running back for the Giants. He retired last year, and afterwards proceeded to talk shit about Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning saying they'd never win the big one and didn't have what it takes to lead the Giants.

Tiki Barber was an awesome running back and star of the New York Giants until he retired at the end of last season. He openly criticized Tom Coughlin (the coach), and his teammates while he played, and after he retired and started working as an analyst, he bashed Eli and Coughlin publicly, which is what began the scorn from Giants fans.

Of course, the year after Tiki retires, Giants make the playoffs, get hot, and win the Super Bowl behind 'not a leader' Eli. Enter karma, bitter tears, etc. etc.

Coaching criticism

Barber disliked Giants head coach Tom Coughlin's coaching style and criticized the "white" coaching. During the coach's tenure, Barber publicly questioned the team's coaching on two occasions. After being shut out at home in the first round of the 2005 playoffs by the Carolina Panthers Tiki made a post game comment that he felt the Giants had been outcoached by their former defensive coordinator, and the Panthers' head coach, John Fox. Heavy sports media attention was placed on the comment; Tiki apologized for it shortly afterwards, saying he only meant to convey the Giants' performance was 'unacceptable'.

Next, after a loss to the Jacksonsville Jaguars during the 2006 season, Barber criticized the playcalling for abandoning the running game too soon.[11] Both times Coughlin and Barber met to discuss the comments.

On the eve of what would be his last game with the Giants, Barber told ESPN that he is "demeaned and talked down to" by Coughlin.
[12]

After retiring, Barber attributed his decision to retire to Coughlin's unrelenting style in practice. "(Coughlin) pushed me in the direction (of television)," said Barber. "I don't know if you realize this, but we were in full pads for 17 weeks, and with the amount of injuries that we had, it just takes a toll on you. You physically don't want to be out there, when your body feels the way you do, in full pads."

[edit] NFL retirement

In October 2006, Barber revealed his intention to retire at the end of the 2006 NFL season. Barber has previously indicated his desire to retire at some point and pursue a broadcasting career but the news still came as a shock to Giants fans and NFL observers.

Many fans wondered why a player at the peak of his game would retire. Barber cited the toll the physical nature of football takes on a person's body. He also spoke of his keen interest in pursuing a broadcasting career and other opportunities. Rick Reilly wrote a column in Sports Illustrated, that chastised critics of Barber's decision and listed a number of former players who played until they were no longer physically able to and have since endured long-term injuries.

During his career with the Giants, the team never won a championship, a top goal of Barber's that he spoke publicly about in 2005. When announcing his retirement, Barber seemed at peace to leave the game without a Super Bowl ring. He said, "I used to think my career was defined by not winning a Super Bowl. But I think looking back on my career, they'll see someone who was a competitor, someone who always played hard and never gave up."[13] He officially filed his retirement papers with the Players Association on February 12, 2007

After retiring, Barber criticized Eli Manning's lack of strong leadership abilities on national television. However, the year after Barber retired, Eli Manning led the Giants to a victory in Super Bowl XLII against the previously undefeated New England Patriots, 17-14, on February 3, 2008 while Barber did celebrity interview and exchanged cake recipes.

I'm not going to lie, Brady got lit the freak up on that sack on the final drive. I obviously didn't like it but I was saying "Oh snap" in my mind.

...golly...

Look... I was 5 years old when Norwood went wide right. For all intent and purpose... *my* New York Giants were shrouded in failure.

Dave Brown. Kent Graham. Danny Kennel. These were my quarterbacks.

Broken promises... early seasons... these were what I looked for every season.

Loses to SF in the 4th Quarter. Blanked by Carolina. No show against the Ravens...... FIELD GOAL FUCKING FASSEL........ those were my big games.

This? This is my team? My team just pulled off the greatest win in the biggest Super Bowl of all time?! Pinch me now. Pinch me later..... just pinch me just enough so that i never wake up if this is a dream......

...but it's no longer a dream. The New York Football Giants are the Champions of the World.... and they fucking TOOK IT. 4 games. 4 unforgettable moments... events... extravaganzas....... and it kept getting better... until........ Ha.

Thank you. FINALLY... Thank you... I'll have this for the rest of my life.

He said a bunch of it.

My favorite part was he said that because the Giants won doesn't mean the city of New York is better than the city of Boston. As the city is only buildings.

He said it meant the people of New York were better than the people of Boston.

He also started off recapping the Eli toss with a paper football.:D

It's far more satisfying when you know your team fought tooth and nail to overcome a deficiency in talent... it's especially satisfying when you do it 3 times in succession with progressively more talented opponents... and it's incredible when you lost to all 3 of the previous matchups with those teams.

This team is a new standard in Cinderella stories. What kind of bums me is that I really don't see how they can match this run again, and if the Giants grew into a powerhouse team like in the late 80's and even won another Super Bowl in the process, it won't be nearly as satisfying as this one. But in a way, I'm okay with that :)

I don't post very often but I have to post here. That was the greatest game I have ever seen in my history as a Giants fan. I am still gleeming over this win. I can stop watching the highlights and hearing " The New York Football Giants are Super Bowl Champions". Oh what a glorious feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QFT except being 5 in 90, I was 12. So I got to witness 3 great Super Bowls, 1 bad one, and a whole bunch of shitty season inbetween.

The Giants won the superbowl...but does anyone think they are going to win the NFC east? I still think
Pray
Dallas takes it.

so the key to beating the cowboys is to make them commit retarded personal fouls, false starts, and illegal formations? and the giants special teams was huge. that's probably the biggest reason the giants won. the special teams.

and i'll just get it out of the way: "bitter tears"
