ESPN radio is now reporting that in addition to sending him that letter, Al Davis has communicated to Kiffin and his agent that Lane Kiffin has been stripped of ALL of his Head Coaching duties. But, not fired.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Oh man, what a fucking circus. Poor raiders fans.

Why cant this happen to a more deserving franchise, like the 49ers?

The Raiders say there is nothing to an ESPN report that owner Al Davis has asked head coach Lane Kiffin to resign.

Kiffin was asked about the report at the Senior Bowl and had no comment. Raiders spokesman John Herrera called it "a non-issue. It hasn't been an issue. (Also), Dennis Green has already debunked the report." Kiffin claims he was promised say over his coaching staff when hired, but owner Al Davis refused to let him fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan after the 2007 season.

jealous that we're the only undefeated 5 time superbowl winners?

also, i don't believe a damn thing the raiders front office says after last year. for those that missed it, adam schefter of NFL network had a report during a thursday night game near the end of the year that the raiders were absolutely going to fire art shell at the end of the year. al davis responded by basically calling adam schefter an idiot and said he didn't know what he was talking about. well what happened? he was fired shortly after the season ended. this is happening

bryant was actually pretty good. his problem was/is his attitude. if he could've fixed that i thought he was on the verge of becoming one of the better receivers in the division (at least). as it is now we're stuck with D-Drop, a former college QB, and ashley lelie who has talent but who nolan refuses to play. maybe martz will demand he get playing time!

BTW, apparently the coach Al Davis is looking to hire after Kiffin is Dennis Green. AWESOME!

I feel sorry for you Raider fans.

Btw, it was rumored that the decision was due to Kiffin trying to fire Ryan. Now we you guys have our your head coach, defensive coordinator, owner, and GM all at odds. Plus, Kiffin's probably hiring failure James Lofton. Awesome.

The other one they did was better. I was gonna post, but figured I'd be banned. ;b

bad news Raider fans: Davis' mom lived til her 100s.
I was gonna say something about a silver bullet originally, but thought it would be in bad taste because he might get shot soon.

What kind of team announces both the DC and OC positions before a HC is hired? Sadly the correct answer is the Redskins.

PRESS RELEASE

January 26, 2008

BLACHE, ZORN NAMED REDSKINS COORDINATORS

ASHBURN, VA – The Washington Redskins today named veteran defensive coach Greg Blache to lead the team’s defense and Jim Zorn as his counterpart on the offense.

The team also released their predecessors, Gregg Williams and Al Saunders.
“I want to thank Gregg and Al for all they did for the team,” Team Owner Daniel M. Snyder said. “In particular, during our most difficult time last year, they both helped hold the team together as we kept moving forward. I am confident they will continue to be successful in the years ahead.”

I'm fine with them as coordinators, but how the hell do you name both coordinators without naming a head coach. Fassel, Meeks, and Spag look to be the leading candidates, no announcement until after the super bowl though.

Garrett was hired for the Cowboys last year well before Phillips was, though I don't think they hired a defensive coordinator until afterwards. It's pretty fucked up, but I really think Williams was a mediocre to poor head coach in Buffalo and never liked the Redskins succession plans.

Yep I know Garrett was signed prior to Phillips, but I don't know if I've ever seen a lot of the staff being signed on. So far I've seen OC, DC, and LB coach being set already. I'd imagine they'll retain almost all of the defensive staff aside from Jerry Gray sadly since he's a Williams guy.

Coaches I want to stay:
Bugel
Gray
Danny Smith
Byner

that fucking sucks. To be honest, i wasn't sold as Gregg Williams as a head coach, not even when he was pencilled in as Gibbs' succesor, but the players seem to believe in him and he deserves a shot, especially over Jim Fucking Fassell. This move is going to set the franchise back 2-3 seasons until Snyder realizes Fassell sucks and moves on to the next coach.

I wish the Panthers would fire Turdovac and hire Williams. Sucks seeing so many great defensive minds like Williams and Ryan on the market and watching them get snapped up by other teams.

The one thing the skins will never have problems with is the cap. Almost all of that money will go away shortly when they convert bonuses. No worries about the cap from me. Now about our coaching situation... that worries me.

How the eff is San Diego that far under with so much talent on their team?

Most of their talent is young, Merriman, Cromartie, Rivers, Jackson, Castillo, Phillips, all under their rookie contracts still I imagine. Gates isn't being paid an outrageous amount. It's pretty damned scary, and a good thing that there aren't any incredible free agents out there aside from the potential New England exiles Moss and Samuel(Good god, if they had Samuel and Cromartie on defense, Moss Gates and LT on offense?)

Okay, I'm scared now.

edit: Not to say that they would sign both or either, of course. But all signs point to Samuel leaving and who knows what will happen with Moss. Other than that, there are a good deal of players to plug in here and there and they've got a shitload of space to either patch up an already very good squad or keep their team intact for some time.

The bengals are going to have even more cap space, I think, since I know they're letting a lot of guys go. I'm just hoping they spend big on Lance Briggs and draft OL/DL with their 9th pick.

first off lance briggs is coming to san fran. he SHOULD already be here but the NFL has a conspiracy against us and didn't allow the trade to happen in october. secondly, we'll be getting bernard berrian as well (unless we can land roy williams.... or chad johnson! he already confessed his love for patrick willis!) sorry bengals, you will forever be our bitch after what we did to you in the 80's. go niners!

NFL was just saving you guys further embarrassment and money. ;b

I wish we had enough sense to pick up Williams or Johnson...OR BOTH! Bring back Moss! He could take another season off and come back revitalized. I'm sure the hard work is getting to him.

so Mort says the Redskins might be waiting until after the SuperBowl to speak to Spagnoli (sp?) about the head coaching spot. WTF is it with Snyder and Giant coaches? Anyway he's an improvement over Fassell i guess. NO FASSEL! ART SHELL OVER FASSEL!

The downside for Spags is the Redskins have already signed their coordinators. It is simply not a great situation he is stepping into -- at least staff wise.

Speaking of Mort, he said Eli would be out a month. :p

BAAAALLLINNN'
What I really don't get is that everyone says the key to the game is to pressure Tom Brady all night... Meanwhile everyone gets on Eli for not doing well if he is under heavy pressure... makes no sense.
