I had wondered off after the event didn't seem to be getting any activity but now that it appears to be getting attention I will stop back by to keep my rewards up while I search for a decent RES in Empire space.
I'll tell you, I was in there for a couple hours last night 7-9pm EST and in the general system flying around for another 2 hours, and I only saw 2 Commanders the entire time. I killed one in the combat zone and the other I just saw at Godel Dock.

Seems like there is no one there, unless they're on at other times during the day. I found it strange considering all the activity in Lugh during the event there. It could be that Quivira is literally on the outskirts of Federation space and a lot of pilots don't want to make the 100LY journey from the core systems.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into locating an area that has that stats to see how my luck is. The next time I'm in Federation space I'll give that spot a visit to see if I can earn some funds. I do still need to work on my Federation rank since that large ship they have coming has my attention that I'm expecting it to have a higher rank requirement than the one I'm at.

No problem! Olivas City is just a few light-seconds from the RESs I've been hitting up in that system--very quick big-money runs back and forth out there.

Also, I haven't seen a Federation mission in forever. I got the Sol permit, got the Beta Hydri permit, and haven't gotten any missions to rank up since and that was back in February. I'm allied with the Federation and do tons of missions for factions with Federation alliances, but all I keep getting is the Federal Invitation mission to get the Beta Hydri permit, which I already have.

Any ideas?

Clearly a double agent. I feel sorry for you.

Same thing was happening to me. However, it was around the time the Tsu exploration CG started, that I found a system right nearby (Wangsu or something) that finally had the next Federal Navy mission for me.

I definitely did NOT get the mission while I was in Beta Hydri.

yeah, I haven't been in Beta Hydri for months (February, after I got the permit and then never got the next mission), I've been flying around Federation space doing various missions. Guess it's just RNG to see which station I dock at happens to have the next mission?

losing 150 million is a good reason to move on.

sorry, but it is. some efforts and losses are too large to be worth starting over from again. 150 mill in bounties is...that's about 2 months of work. I don't really understand how you don't go cash in at least 2x/week, but w/e. There are just so many things that can go wrong. Some pair of CMDRs can decide they're tired of you taking all the bounties and kill you. You could run into another ship (or they could run into you) fucking your ship up or destorying it entirely. You could accidentally run into an unseen asteroid in a belt.

losing $150 mill is too steep a price to learn this "first week" lesson.

also, not upgrading life support is inexcusable. you literally have to scroll by the module every time you decide to try to upgrade some piece of equipment on the ship. Putting it up to 10 minutes is like...$80k? c'mon son.

I'm worth maybe half that, I definitely feel like if I accidentally lose it all somehow, I'm done. Some grinds you only do once.

Eh, actually I wouldn't be out if I lost all of my credits, as long as I still had my ranks. I find the small ships just as much fun to fly as the larger ones. I'd work up to an Adder and then head out exploring again.

There's no graphical representation of black holes consuming things (not that I've yet seen, at least), though anything could change in future updates. Few of the bodies are stationary so to speak--they all move along their orbits in real time, spin on their axes at prescribed rates, etc. I don't think the highest level of galactic motion is modeled, but of course with a 1:1 scale Milky Way, that rotation would be largely undetectable for millions of years anyway, so it might as well not be there. Even with purely cosmetic bodies (for the time being--planetary landings have been confirmed for a future update, though none of us are very sure what we'll be able to do there once we land), it's hard not to recommend the game to someone who wants to explore or simply enjoys space. It's a very engaging way to get out there amongst the stars and see you some things. Lots and lots of things. Billions and billions.

Thanks! The planetary stuff is the main reason I'm excited for No Man's Sky. Not necessarily because of content, but to see the geography and landscape. Like, the Star Wars teaser with the X-Wings flying across some lake, or the Battlefront canyon dogfight. That is what I want form planetary exploration. I also want to go into a Gas Giant's atmosphere and see some dynamic cloud action. Fly through mountains of clouds.

After using the Cobra for almost a month exclusively I used the extra cash I had to buy and outfit a Vulture. My other friends did the same so now we are in a wing with 3 vultures and a FDL. It feels like we are cheating when we all focus put attack on an Anaconda or Asp or Python. When the bigs aren't there I provide support for the FDL or target any loosies, smaller damaged ships in the high intensity zones.

My journey to be a space trucker is delayed until my friends have enough for a type 6 or 7. I heard that you can navlock to your wing the entire jump and you get a cut on whatever you sell at a station.

I remember seeing that mentioned with the Wings update. Something like 5% or 15% share of the trade/profit goes to the wing but I can't remember the specifics. I've always wanted to try it but all my friends have bailed out on the game and I was worried flying escort for me would've been boring.

For a while now. It's possible to abandon your cargo, which doesn't tag it as illegal for others to salvage. Handy if you're trying to trade.

It's been a while since I've played. :)

I'll try hooking it up tonight, wanna fly into a star tonight. Had to reinstall my OS so hopefully this goes without a hitch (just gotta hope the Rift complies)

So I decided to get an Asp and get it equipped for exploration as a change of pace. I got it ready to go (amazing jump range after being used to a Vulture for a few months) and then I realized that a 100 jump trip one way stopping for all scans will take a while.

This is just a test to see what it is like but after seeing that number of jumps I decided to wait until tomorrow to start. I have a lot of respect for the people who go on the 3000LY trips that must take a month to complete if they're scanning everything after seeing what my little "quick" test outing will be like.

So now it is legal to pick up those random cargo you find around? I remember hunting bounties in a system back around release when I played (haven't done that in a while now) and occasionally I would find several cargo packets of gold that I would grab and try to smuggle into a nearby station because of how little bounties paid back. However, picking these up would always label them as illegal despite just floating around randomly in space.

So they have now made it possible to pick stuff like that up or is it still illegal?

if the cargo is not officially abandoned during the jettison process, it will be illegal to pick it up.

I'm a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to combat in this game as I've mainly been flying around trading and exploring but recently decided to tip my toes into some laz0rpewpew action and it has been fun. I've been flying around in my eagle with some gimballed pulse lasers and I now got just over half a mill in my pocket and I'm thinking what might be the next upgrade.

Should I upgrade to a different ship and if so, which one ? Or should I maybe upgrade the weapons and systems of the Eagle and just stick to that ?

Another question I have is about conflict zones. Earlier this morning I was in a system with a few low and high intensity combat zones so I entered one of the low intensity ones to see what the crack is and there was a bunch of system authority vessels duking it out with some federation ships so I decided not to engage either and just leave them to it. My question being, who or what should / could I engage in these zones ? I watched some youtube tutorial vid about this and it suggested that a system with conflict zones and a nearby station can be a good credit maker since you can rack up bounties and hand em in quickly at the station and jump back in.

You don't exactly get bounties in combat zones, you get combat bonds. Those are fixed, higher when you kill a more expensive ship. Combat bonds are often lower than a bounty, but every ship in the opposing faction is game, so finding targets is easier.

The most important thing to learn about combat zones is that you need to pick a faction from your display on the right, before you start fighting and earning bonds... then simply go to a nearby station and cash them in.

Combat zones are good fun, but be careful: you may end up suddenly fighting too many enemies at once.

As for upgrading or buying ships: keep in mind that you get 100% money back when you sell any ship upgrade you buy so ship upgrades are almost always a good investment (you should always sell individual upgrades back before selling a ship too). Just remember to always have enough money for insurance.

Your next target is either buying a Viper or a Cobra (depending on if you want a combat only ship or not).

Ok thanks a lot, yea it was combat bonds mentioned in the vid, not bounties, duhh. I'm definately gonna look into it more though and try them out.

My combat ship upgrade path was Eagle > Cobra > Vulture. Went with the Cobra so I could use it multi purpose in between combat sessions.

I've been doing the community goal for diso and whilst it's fun in the short term I quickly realised why I never wanted to become a trader full time. I do like the display in one of the freighters I've bought just for this one.

At some point I have to swing back to Quivera and collect my earnings from that as well.

How close is too close? About 72km, it seems:

And yes, I said kilometers. My FSD about fried itself to a crisp trying to get away.

Another one, from a greater distance. My current wallpaper:

Must depend on the size of the black hole. This one's tiny:
Probably could've gotten closer as there was no heat build-up yet, but I didn't want to push my luck so far away from home.

After dropping off some atmospheric processors at Shifnal and seeing so many CMDRs in Anacondas and Type-9s, I'm kind of itching to do more. Or to fly a large transport ship for a while, anyway. I can only afford a Type-7 at most right now... may spend the next couple days trying out some space truckin' and see how the money flows in.

If you have a completed community goal to go collect do you loose it if you die like the bounties? I just realized that the Empire one finished as I had started my test flight and I wasn't sure if I should divert to pick it up or if it is safe to wait until I'm back.

I did the exact same path. I have about 32 million in the bank waiting to see what 1.3 will bring to the table.

Any community events happening? How do you guys find out about them?

In addition to the internet resources above, you can simply read about them in-game on the Galnet newsfeed on the right-hand side of the Starport Services screen.

I thought the one in Diso would be going on for another couple of days, but everyone knocked it so quickly.

Got back into the game two days ago when reading how to make money quick and safely while bounty hunting. (I needed to get back to use for E:D bought T. Flight Hotas X too)

Now equipping my new Cobra MK III with the best I can get - so I am flying from station to RES to raise my credits.

Will go on exploration trip somewhere, while listening to radio Sidewinder and drink NA beers and wates.

Fly safe, commanders.
