I 'upgraded' to a discounted Python from my Clipper right after the Zaonce community goal. I probably am a little short on funds to properly outfit it, so I'm sure that's part of the problem but... it's just so ugly... and sluggish. I just haven't had the will to go back to the game. I guess I should load it up with some cargo racks, grind a few hours of trading out, along with a little Fed rank and go for the FDL.
After upgrading my quite a bit from my last post on the subject...yea, it's pretty ugly inside. I think it looks better outside. IMO, the Clipper clearly has the best interior in the game, but the exterior reminded me too much of a 727 jet with nacelles attached to the wings and shit hardpoint locations.
To make it less sluggish: upgrade your thrusters. I put 6C's on mine. The 6D's are very similar as well. Maybe 10-15 average speed difference between the two.
On another subject, I found some really cool power management approaches along the way that I figured I'd pass along:
1.) If you're running multiple shield cell banks, turn all but one off. When you use all your charges in one, disable it and turn on the next. Doing so can save you 6% power multipled by however many you're using. I have 3, so I have 12% power available for any power-hungry upgrades I may want to do.
2.) New Python owners: Steadily make your way to the 9 mill power distributor (7A). If you're running (or want to run) 3x laser weapon setups, you'll need it. In the interim, I'd recommend running a setup similar to what you had on your clippers. 2x lasers and 2x multicannons. Upgrade to 7C --> 7B --> 7A as you can afford it.
3.) New Python owners: Upgrade those thrusters. The default thrusters suck hot asshole juice and are the singular reason you're getting kited by everything in combat zones/RES. Upgrade to 6D ASAP. Big difference for combat players. 6C is a bit better. Plan on springing for 6A eventually. You can probably stay at 6C/D and just jump straight to 6A.
Obviously you'll need the power to run all this stuff, and I find the 7C to be sufficient until you go to 7A. The 7B is just a waste unless you need to drop weight for some reason unless it's just glitched right now, as it only shows a .20 Mw upgrade at the station I'm at (I think the 7B is
supposed to be a 27.5MW part but the station I'm at says otherwise). Manually manage your shield cells (point #1) and you can go more than 3Mw over your power limit (25Mw if you get the 7C) and you'll never even see a power warning indicator.
Biggest Python purchases will be for the big power plant (30Mw), armor upgrades, and 6A thrusters. For me, the Armor and Thruster upgrades are a lower priority to the max power distributor so I'm saving up for the 7B --> 7A distributors after getting the 6B shield. Then the thrusters, and armor last. That'll be a pretty long road, but I suppose by the time I'm putting military grade composite on it, I'll be tired of it and ready to move to an Anaconda. I expect that will be quite awhile from now.
edit: and i dare you to call my python ugly.
pretty as fuck. just look at that sommbitch
