As somebody who is terrible at flying trying to figure out what all the buttons on my new X55 do ... this is amazing.

I still need to make a mapping chart for all the buttons and slowly learn them ...

OMFG... They optimized the shit out of this Beta 2.0. Stutter is basically gone for me. Not only that, but I'm practically running the game at max settings. Only settings that are not max is that shadow is set to low and I've turned off ambient occlusion.

It's buttery smooth in the stations.

The new lighting engine looks superb and I literally feel like this is a whole new game in terms of UI, Interface and hell even the look of the Sidewinder. I literally feel like the game looks way better than before. The planets took a real overhaul and they look MAGNIFICENT.

Only problems I'm seeing right now, but is to be expected is server issues. Keep on getting booted out whenever I try to hyperdrive to Dahan from Azeban Orbital. Was able to hyperdrive out of Eranin though to Dahan, but got kicked out when I tried to vice-versa.

Overall, I cannot wait to get into the meaty-gritty again!!

Edit: Looked at the patch notes. Are there blackholes?! I wanna go to one!!!

Had a lot of fun playing beta 2 with PrematureQuiche tonight.

I'm playing on the DK2 + X52 Pro hotas. It is a great improvement over beta 1 as far as the rift is concerned. The game now has proper DK2 support and proper positional tracking (not just head tracking).

The servers were a bit slammed causing some issues hyper jumping to new systems. Though, we did find that if you temp jumped in solo play and made the jump you could get around the issue that way.

Man, this game is having some weird issues. I'm unable to use the galaxy map isnce the camera seems to be focused outside of the galaxy, and when I leave Aulin, I'm literally floating outside of the galaxy.
Also, I guess they re-booted all the player's stash and ships? I started with a sidewinder again. Is that normal?

Either they changed the look of space or I have some really weird graphical issues. Everything around me is pitch black, no starts, just a galaxy or nebulae once in a while. Its creepy. Also I think some effects doesn't work properly. Graphical card issues?

I had this happen to me once.

Have you tried quitting, closing the launcher and relaunching?

Why is my internet so slow? Why??? Oh well halfway there. Will get in later today but man it's a pain living in London and having shit internet. C'mon BT sort of the fibre optic!

I've been having issues all morning, checking the ED forums it seems I'm not the only one. Sitting on my hands until 2.1 arrives.

Do you clip into the headrest with positional tracking?

Man, this is great news. Will have to give it a shot tonight. What are your specs?

I have R9 290 OC, 16Gb 1600 RAM, i5 3570k slight OC and an SSD ... When I first used the rift I completely forgot about the settings but I honestly didn't see any slowdown outside of space stations (even with shadows on). I eventually did some reading and found out that turning that off made a difference but I didn't really notice much.

For both of you, how is the text? It was unreadable for me so unfortunately being new at the game I couldn't navigate things (I did learn how to restart the dogfight scenario). But I'd like to do all the training missions to get an idea of where to assign my X55 buttons then move on to using the Rift.

Can I just ask, do you think the game would run better with 16Gb of RAM or is 8Gb enough? Also would a i5-4690K be good enough to run well?

8 Gb is fine. 16 is overkill but I just like big numbers. That processor is more than enough also. What is your GPU? That would be the most important question after those two are known.

Thanks, I'm in the process of trying to build a PC just to play this game, so I haven't decided on a GPU (mostly because I know nothing about them). I'll probably choose from one of the following so any suggestions on a good enough one would be much appreciated. I don't want to spend too much but I'd like the game to run very well

Yeah I've posted in that thread as well but I was hoping people who've been playing the beta could advise me what would be a good graphics card for Elite. I'd happily spend about $200 maybe, assuming that's good enough to get the game looking good?

It's "good enough" to get it looking good. Pick up a GTX 760 or R9 280. If you can squeeze some extra coin go for the 770 or for $350 you can get the GTX 970 which is the new upper midrange hotness.

Hmm. Black screen of death. Looks like it starts but cant connect to server. 2.02. build. I think I'll sleep on it doesn't look like I'm going to get online in any meaningful way today with this.

Am I the only one with this?

Same here, and for a whole lot of people who are reporting it in the ED forums. I doubt anything will get fixed up until tomorrow at the earliest now.

Same for me. Just get the black screen and game hangs.

my 660ti seems to run the game fine for what it is worth. Getting a 970 to make it run better on my Rift when it arrives.

Thanks guys, sounds like the 770 should be fine. The whole computer is looking like costing £700 already so I don't want to spend even more with the 970. This game better be worth it :-P

I'm downloading a patch.

edit: changelog for beta 2.02

- Multithread crash in stellarforge fixed
- Make each of the disconnects from missions have their own unique reason
- Turn off date stamping of log files for beta 2.02
- Don't let overachieving AIs send cargo collect requests
- Fix flipping direction on supercruise entry
- If we get a call to disconnect from main game flow then write the reason into the network log file
- When entering new location expect the PrimaryServerLink may be in Disconnected state for a few frames, only give up if it stays that way for a few seconds; add more explicit logging if giving up here
- Fix for AI group duties crash
- Tone down star streaks - halved the number of star streaks and reduced their opacity
- Scratches on sidewinder cockpit are overpowering - reduced dirt intensity
- Fixing naming error that was stopping a medium hard point door from opening
- GUI fix for missing rating on modules
- Distance on purchasable data now displayed
- Fix for network MTU size mismatch
- Prevent crash from network stall and resulting replication errors
- Force requests closed on shut down

edit2: oh. this is old news. *duck*

Downloading latest patch! Can't wait to get my hands on it!!

Did all the stuff get reset, or we still have our money and ships?
Anyway, can't wait for the damn DK2 to arrive. I ordered it on the 24th of August and still pending. It's October already so hopefully they start shipping soon, and not at the end of the month...

Just tried out beta 2.02 for the first time and there is definitely a large graphical improvement, especially the details at the various stations. However, I'm noticing a drop in performance for the same graphical settings. I am now getting large stuttering everywhere particularly when panning either my head or the ship. Whereas before it was just seldom micro judders when looking around with my head in the stations. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I am running a GTX 780 and i5 4750k at medium graphics setting but supersampled at 25xx by 14xx.

I don't have the game yet, waiting for release, but I watched Scott Manley's new video about the new patch and I like the changes they keep making to the game, this update is no different. The new "low budget" station type looks fantastic and a lot of fun to dock with. Also the menu and UI changes look great too, seems like they tweaked a lot of little things to make the UI both cleaner and easier to use.

This game will eventually eat up so damned much of my time, probably even more than the original did. I need to get some projects around the house done before the game releases or my name with the girlfriend will be DIRT.

So I did the training mission regarding docking in the space station with the Rift and my speakers turned up ... man, going through that entryway was so awesome. When you first are brought up to the landing section it's breathtaking.

I really can't wait for CV1 man, it's going to be fucking greatness. I am having a tough time programming my X55 though ... I'll assign a button thinking "oh man, that's perfect placement" then 5 minutes later assign something else to it and it will tell me "boost was assigned to this, bro" ... /sigh.

I am going to print out some button map sheets and see what I can do. This is seriously complicated scientific shit going on. Luckily the toggles can be UP and DOWN, so UP on a switch can be Lights while DOWN on the switch can be Landing Gear.

EDIT: Also, is there going to be party play or guild-ish type stuff included? Is there a friends list going on somewhere? Haven't dived into the menu all that much. Yesterday was my first time opening up "COMMS" ... heh.

Game's not loading for me. It seems this is a pretty common issue, and apparently Frontier are working on 2.0.3 now and releasing an update in a few hours. Can't wait to try out this!! Haven't played the game for a couple weeks, waiting for the update.

All I can tell you is that I've been getting microstutters at all resolutions and all graphics and audio settings ever since the first premium beta went live. Even with everything on low and no vsync, I get 150+ FPS but the stutter remains. It's pretty frustrating.

Seeing all these amazing screenshots and videos and still being stuck on the black screen of doom is incredibly frustrating.

What version are you? I had the same problem with 2, 2.01 and 2.02 but 2.03 seems fine.

Enjoying the new features although is it me or are the interiors maybe a little too flatly lit now and is space maybe a little too blue? Or have settings changed and I need to tweak stuff?

Still, liking the new interface and options and nice to see in system maps. Now if I could just work out why my HOTAS isn't being recognized by the new version! Stuck with gamepad and keyboard until I figure it out.

what is the (new?) instant kill weapon some of the npcs are using?

I was at several nav beacons for bounty hunting wanted guys and every now and then I die out of nowhere. Not from the guy i'm pursuing but from someone else with a onehit. Shield is up and such, I just die instantly :( Really annoying. Happend about 4 times in a row now and I have no idea how to counter this at all. Besides the guy I'm hunting noone is red at this time though. I don't get it :(

Yeah 2.03 fixed it. Can't stop playing. Send help.

I like the new look inside the stations, but I agree space is way too bright, and the twinkling stars look kinda dumb. I hope they tone it down a bit.

My new GTX970 and the DK2 is an amazing combination btw (except that sometimes the screen locks up for a split second and it messes with my brain).

You can change the UI light intensity in the ships' functions.

I'm having a little trouble getting started.

I want to get to blowing some ships up. What's the best way for me to find some objectives that won't be beyond me at the start of the game?

I've just been doing the courier missions to make some money to get a better ship! They are easy and it helps me get used to the controls!
