Either they changed the look of space or I have some really weird graphical issues. Everything around me is pitch black, no starts, just a galaxy or nebulae once in a while. Its creepy. Also I think some effects doesn't work properly. Graphical card issues?
I had this happen to me once.
Have you tried quitting, closing the launcher and relaunching?
Had a lot of fun playing beta 2 with PrematureQuiche tonight.
I'm playing on the DK2 + X52 Pro hotas. It is a great improvement over beta 1 as far as the rift is concerned. The game now has proper DK2 support and proper positional tracking (not just head tracking).
The servers were a bit slammed causing some issues hyper jumping to new systems. Though, we did find that if you temp jumped in solo play and made the jump you could get around the issue that way.
OMFG... They optimized the shit out of this Beta 2.0. Stutter is basically gone for me. Not only that, but I'm practically running the game at max settings. Only settings that are not max is that shadow is set to low and I've turned off ambient occlusion.
It's buttery smooth in the stations.
The new lighting engine looks superb and I literally feel like this is a whole new game in terms of UI, Interface and hell even the look of the Sidewinder. I literally feel like the game looks way better than before. The planets took a real overhaul and they look MAGNIFICENT.
Only problems I'm seeing right now, but is to be expected is server issues. Keep on getting booted out whenever I try to hyperdrive to Dahan from Azeban Orbital. Was able to hyperdrive out of Eranin though to Dahan, but got kicked out when I tried to vice-versa.
Overall, I cannot wait to get into the meaty-gritty again!!
Edit: Looked at the patch notes. Are there blackholes?! I wanna go to one!!!
I have R9 290 OC, 16Gb 1600 RAM, i5 3570k slight OC and an SSD ... When I first used the rift I completely forgot about the settings but I honestly didn't see any slowdown outside of space stations (even with shadows on). I eventually did some reading and found out that turning that off made a difference but I didn't really notice much.
Can I just ask, do you think the game would run better with 16Gb of RAM or is 8Gb enough? Also would a i5-4690K be good enough to run well?
8 Gb is fine. 16 is overkill but I just like big numbers. That processor is more than enough also. What is your GPU? That would be the most important question after those two are known.
Yeah I've posted in that thread as well but I was hoping people who've been playing the beta could advise me what would be a good graphics card for Elite. I'd happily spend about $200 maybe, assuming that's good enough to get the game looking good?
Hmm. Black screen of death. Looks like it starts but cant connect to server. 2.02. build. I think I'll sleep on it doesn't look like I'm going to get online in any meaningful way today with this.
Am I the only one with this?

It's "good enough" to get it looking good. Pick up a GTX 760 or R9 280. If you can squeeze some extra coin go for the 770 or for $350 you can get the GTX 970 which is the new upper midrange hotness.
my 660ti seems to run the game fine for what it is worth. Getting a 970 to make it run better on my Rift when it arrives.
Just tried out beta 2.02 for the first time and there is definitely a large graphical improvement, especially the details at the various stations. However, I'm noticing a drop in performance for the same graphical settings. I am now getting large stuttering everywhere particularly when panning either my head or the ship. Whereas before it was just seldom micro judders when looking around with my head in the stations. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I am running a GTX 780 and i5 4750k at medium graphics setting but supersampled at 25xx by 14xx.

Seeing all these amazing screenshots and videos and still being stuck on the black screen of doom is incredibly frustrating.
What version are you? I had the same problem with 2, 2.01 and 2.02 but 2.03 seems fine.
Enjoying the new features although is it me or are the interiors maybe a little too flatly lit now and is space maybe a little too blue? Or have settings changed and I need to tweak stuff?
Still, liking the new interface and options and nice to see in system maps. Now if I could just work out why my HOTAS isn't being recognized by the new version! Stuck with gamepad and keyboard until I figure it out.

I'm having a little trouble getting started.
I want to get to blowing some ships up. What's the best way for me to find some objectives that won't be beyond me at the start of the game?
