Elon Musk's Neuralink Announcement / Conference Friday Aug 28th

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
What I think a lot of people are missing here is that the goal of this technology (before it has wide mainstream appeal for augmentation rather than curing disabilities) is that the device will be non-invasive and wireless. Meaning - it won't require surgery and can be put on or taken off at-will. Like a hat. The (long) link I posted in the OP calls it a "wizard hat".

So if the device is doing something you don't expect or aren't comfortable with, just take it off. Just like it's possible to turn off a cell phone. Some of you are really jaded by modern technology and services. Not that I blame you, but losing hope for the future of humanity is kinda sad.

More interested in invisible power than having google transplanted into my brain.

I will fuck you all while you people tune out at night and your brain is used for mass computation.

It wont be just your nose bleeding when you wake up.

If any of you is into remote viewing and good at it please look into what this shit is all about.

Not sure if the good outweighs the bad regarding this. It ultimately will be used by corporations to get richer somehow someway and that tilts me towards more negative than positive. Anything with hardware and software can be hacked it seems incredibly naive to connect something like that to your brain.
You dont need to go that far. Your current software and hardware is already being hacked.

Your food changes your dna and the media and social media is altering your software by injecting an overload of miss information and just obbey programing.

And if you were dumb enough to do one of these dna ancestry tests they already have your code and know what to change in it or how to exploit it.

That is one hell of a pickup line. I think you’ll fit nicely in -Arcadia- -Arcadia- ’s foot stool supply room on the front line.

There is no “me” when you enter into her glorious army. There is the soldier that fights for her will and those that she rest her feet Upon. You will love being either because that is what you will be told to love.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I am all about this technology and the benefits it will bring. However, considering how badly society handled the ethical issues arising from innovations such as social networks or search engines, I don’t have much hope for how we’ll handle the problems that will come with virtual worlds or other possibilities enabled by Neuralink.
I am confident I will have a fantastic time with the technology, but there will always be some moron trying to use it or restrict it to push their religious or political agenda.

They may announce upcoming human trials.

"Musk’s confirmed the event will feature a live demonstration of neurons firing." -- This is huge.

If you want to get up to speed on Neuralink, I suggest this wonderful but lengthy read that is now only a few years outdated:

:messenger_horns:
This shit is crazy.

I don’t know about this, considering the widespread use of DDOS attacks against computer hardware. What is stopping the CCP hacking the machine and forcing the user to consume Some kind of propaganda?
If big websites keep being taken down, how on earth can brain interfaces be protected? It only takes one hack to do serious damage.

One hopes it goes smoother than the Cybertruck reveal. Also...

Jokes aside I have genuine interest in such tech and benefits put the pitfalls might just be too great on this one, either way the progress isn't going to be stopped any time soon.

Been a while since I read the Wait But Why article on this, but I seem to remember Elon's long game for Neuralink being largely about giving humans a fighting chance against artificial general intelligence (AGI), and against eventual artificial superintelligence. The current fear is that as AI improves exponentially over the coming decades, it might well decide that we humans, with our woefully bottlenecked and hamstrung organic processing capability, are basically like ants to it. AI will become the steward of the planet, and it will take the mantle of apex predator, leaving humans far, far, far back in its dust. After which point, the fate of humanity is unclear--kept in human zoos as a "thank you" for giving birth to AI? Or enslaved? Or exterminated?

The long goal of Neuralink is to let humanity develop alongside the coming meteoric rise of AI, and at least give us a leg up.

A ton of assumptions there, obviously, and a lot of it sounds far-fetched, but that apparently is Musk's thinking.
