They'd still have to talk about the NX Console, especially if both are sharing their games. As such, I'm expecting an announcement of Paper Mario U, if this rumor is true, within the next month or two.

He probably meant the thing that took down an entire console because people are sick of seeing it milked, while several parts of the Mario franchise have now reached new lows in either sales, critical acclaim or both because of it.
The NSMB umbrella has slowly turned into poison. Unless you still live in the year 2009, like the delusional management at Nintendo.

Speculation about new Nintendo game, people throw out ideas, it's ANOTHER Mario game, a series that hasn't had a good entry in a decade, don't know when we'll find out any details which is bad cuz Nintendo fans are so thirsty they're stalking Retro Studios HQ

I'd take a digital version for Europe. I had the opportunity to play it back then, and that game was absolutely brilliant.

I love it when people make things up in their heads and they talk about it like it's objective truth. You have absolutely no way whatsoever to link New Super Mario Bros. to "taking down an entire console" (I mean, what?), or to link it to any misadventure of any other Mario title. I guess New Super Mario Bros. Wii is responsible for Super Mario Galaxy selling less than it even though NSMBW released after SMG?

I mean, holy cow. And you talk about being delusional.
 
One thing I'll never understand is why Super Paper Mario is constantly lumped with Sticker Star as "the bad ones." Sticker Star was only bad because it lacked new characters, previous PM cameos and a deeper plot. The gameplay was solid in all four games IMO.

Super Paper Mario had all that, and thus I'd lump it with the first two rather than the fourth one.

Because people asked for a story driven RPG with a charming world populated with charming characters.
 
Not holding my hopes up. PM and TTYD were absolutely amazing, but while SPM was also good it really missed the turn-based elements and Sticker Star was simply a disappointment not because it's a "bad game" but because it's a Paper Mario Lite released five years after SPM.
There's a new Paper Mario rumor every other week so whatever.

I thought that game was a boring abomination back then, and I think it's a boring abomination now. It was slow, it had limited, mediocre and linear gameplay, it had endless dialogue... erk.

Its still Mario. And we all know why they chose make a new rpg with Mario and the gang instead of a new IP.

It may have had too much story. It had long periods of just characters talking. That was actually one of the reasons Sticker Star has far less dialog.

This isn't necessarily true. Paper Mario has always had platforming segments, and the art style of the game was basically just Mario World + Yoshi's Island, up until Sticker Star.

But yea, Paper Mario isn't just "another Mario game" since it's an entirely different universe with an entirely different cast of characters, besides the actual species of the characters. And even with that, things are flexible, as new species are always in PM (except SS).
 
the two actual paper mario games are two of my favorite games ever and I have literally 0 hype for this until I have a reason to think otherwise

I know I shouldn't, but any time I hear "new Paper Mario", I always get hyped that they're finally going to make Paper Mario 3.

Well designed world maps should instill a sense of journey, progress, and adventure. See DKC2 and SMW as examples. Even within a single world, SMB3 accomplished this goal (getting to the pyramid in world 2, for example, or the puzzle of the pipe world).

This just sounds like you whining that you didn't get what you wanted from 3D World. Sorry, mate. Some of us consider it one of the best Mario games created. Just because it lacks a portion of what you enjoyed about a previous entry does not make the devteam lazy in that they didn't have the time, energy or passion to do it. It just means they didn't do it.

I never understood calling even Sticker Star "a bad one".

Even the worst paper mario is still a fun game. Being dissapointing does not mean being a BAD game

You know, Wii U (and 3DS/Wii/DS) is not the right system to get if you want to play the latest AAA games,but intented to be something to diversify your game library.
Now, of course it sells bad, but that goes beyond the lack of AAA or quality games for the system, unfortunately

i haven't read this thread or played a paper mario game but i just wnt you to know that new super mario is terrible in literally every way

Sticker stars gameplay was god awful.
 
So in Super Paper Mario:

- One chapter is set in an otaku's house filled with robot cat maidos
- One chapter is pretty much The Divine Comedy
- One chapter boss is the spider-head monster from The Thing
- Mr. L

I can understand people being disappointed that it's not an RPG, but the game is glorious.
