As someone who doesn't play competitively outside of my circle of friends, I find melee's controls to be WAY less responsive to my input than smash 4. I know people who play melee religiously disagree, but when I want to dodge in smash 4, the characters dodge. I think L-cancelling is literally the dumbest mechanic in a fighting game, ever, because there is never ever ever ever ever ever ever a situation where you *DON'T* want to use it, so it's just an extra button input for no reason. I get the adoration for wave dashing, because it allows you to perform standing moves while in motion (rather than a dash attack), as well as lets you move around more freely, so I 100% get the appeal of that, but I would much rather a game let you do all of that without the need for crazy well-timed button inputs.
I prefer smash 4 because of the better roster, better stages, and I *LIKE* the way the game feels and plays, even if it isn't as hype to watch in a competitive sense. I think it's a good mid-point between melee and brawl, and it's perfect for someone like me to play. Only way you'll ever get me to go back to melee is if you promise we can do pokeballs on high, because seeing like 9 pokemon out at once is amazing.
Yarr, i've made my peace with it.
Really can't wait for smash NX though. Will be a day 1 purchase for me. Ice climbers plz.
