i just think this wont be a huge upgrade, GameFreak are not tech pushers
but wouldn't it be cool if they had anti-aliasing?

About the USBs: while they were great for Wii U - I no joke - only JUST discovered that the Wii had USB ports last week. Did anyone know what they were ever used for?
They don't even need to push the tech. This thing will be several orders of magnitude more powerful than the 3DS. It will be the biggest generational leap of all time. The fact that they can create assets without them being significantly downgraded will be an huge upgrade by default.
I'm sure people have asked this before but who is Emily Rogers? I look her up and see she's ArcadeGirl64. But who is she that everyone chomps at the bit when she puts out info? Is she really accurate with her news or does she have some connections in Nintendo that have paid out well in the past? What's the deal?
She is/was a freelance games journalist who also helps devs with game design, which I believe is what she's focusing on now.
She just has a LOT of connections in the industry, especially around Nintendo and indie developers. And she's leaked (or at least accurately predicted) a lot of Nintendo news in the past
As mentioned earlier, why should Nintendo even bother with porting Mario Kart 8 & Splatoon? I've already made my case about Mario Kart 8 (which Retro4ever quoted a few posts above this one). As for Splatoon, maybe a port for that game may have made sense if they were still doing Splatfests. But now that the Splatfests are over, there's no real reason to port the game when Nintendo could start fresh with a sequel. Plus they're gonna have to overhaul the controls anyway thanks to the lack of a second screen.
Probably the most exciting thing about this is, EVERY game they make will now be a 'console' game. Outlook is good for PokemonHoly shit could we technically have a CONSOLE Pokemon game with the NX?
They already have the assets anyway, they made those nice HD models of all the pokemon.![]()
This. We all want our favorite franchises day one but Nintendo needs a steady stream of content released.
See, this is the angle.
Think of all the GAMES. One platform solves one of Ninty's hugest issues.
Just a specific example: I would've loved Mario Golf on console. I get a lot of multiplayer use out of the Wii U, not so much the 3DS. If the console could've gotten the Mario Golf game instead, I would've been more likely to buy it. On the topic of Mario sports games, maybe Mario Tennis could've been a better show on unified hardware as well.
With a system that has everything from the company, this will make it so I won't miss out on any title due to platform preference. It's one stinkin' platform.
They should release a Dark Souls Trilogy for NX:
- Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition
- Darks Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Edition
- Darks Souls III + DLC Season Pass included
All on one high-capacity cart. Playable at home or on the go on NX.
Heck, Nintendo could publish for Bandai-Namco and include an amiibo line!
I just want amiibo of Ornstein and SmoughOne step toward DS GO!
I'm always excited about Nintendo's software output, that's why I like Nintendo.
Man, I'd gladly take a Mario Kart 8 DX, especially if they added extra courses and characters, and perhaps a classic version of Battle Mode. All of that at 1080p 60fps with anti-aliasing, at home and on the go, would be GODLY.It definitely makes business sense. It's also quite viable. I don't think gamers would be upset at a portable MK8R/DX with a few upgrades. Mario Kart 9 would be great obviously, but there isn't a Mario Kart 9 releasing anytime soon if certain games are also in development internally. It doesn't matter if the MK8 team finished (Fall 2016 actually), if other small projects got the green light for production. Which could have happened. Konno could be working on Nintendogs mobile and Mario Kart 8R. You have to consider the expenditure in every game developed internally.
This is just discourse mind you. We don't know what Nintendo is actually doing.
Travy doesnt like handheld so he wants what he wants to be right
This is complete speculation, obviously, but it seems to me Nintendo is going this route specifically to avoid software droughts because their handhelds is where they actually have a healthy amount of third party support.
I asked myself this same question earlier today and this is what I found ...
What article are you talking of?This article sounds like a Nintendo fan extrapolating without actual sources. Anyone could have written this.
The sentiment is sound, but it marginalizes the notion that Nintendo is getting out of the home console race which is a disappointment for a lot of fans. This article tries hard to frame it in a very optimistic way and I hope it bears out the way it's written here. But Emily basically depends on Nintendo's presence in the market to even have a reader base, so I can see the reason for the optimism.
The damage of having software droughts are obviously much more pronounced when you only have one main piece of hardware on the market.
At the same time, however, it seems the whole hook and push of the NX (from what we know) is to deliver a wealth of Nintendo's software and IP at a low cost barrier and with a dynamic form factor. So the first year of launch may not need to be front loaded, but they do need to send a clear message that:
1 - NX is not following in the footsteps of the their last two hardware launches which both lacked big hitting titles, and both suffered very anemic first years.
2 - That the first six to nine months of the console's launch is a positive representation of the kind of quality and frequency of content that can be expected in the future.
A launch title like Breath of the Wild is a great kickstarter, but Nintendo needs to give an unequivocal push of quality software early on to attract those dubious early adopters.
Oh god yes
Would also take Golden Sun 1 and 2 remake.
I don't believe they can increase their output just by relying on combining their handheld and console teams on a single piece of tech. On the contrary I think it'll decrease instead. 3ds teams would likely face a longer development time due to the highier increase in assets needed in an hd game.
Eh, no matter what they'll do with NX software output, no BC (if true) totally kill my interest in it.

Also this. NX could also have games like Ace Attorney, Layton, Theatrythm, SMT, Rube Factory etc.. stuff youd never find on a Nintendo home console. This is complete speculation, obviously, but it seems to me Nintendo is going this route specifically to avoid software droughts because their handhelds is where they actually have a healthy amount of third party support.

Aren't Nintendo also making Mobile games? So not entirely focused on one platform but like before...
I would expect the mobile output, based on the planned number of releases and co-development with DeNA, to not split resources overall nearly to the point of the previous HH and home console situation. There is QoL also, but unsure hoq much of Nintendo's development capacity that's utilizing.

DeNA isn't co-developing the game but more providing the infrastructure. Miitomo's development team from
Nintendo was about the same size as Tomodachi Collection 2 according to Sakamoto. It's definitely significant.
Basically, imagine a Nintendo console that shared its handheld and console game development... that is the most exciting thing for me (for now, there is definitely some information we still don't know about).
