What's the situation with mobile games anyway, is it even possible for them to be fantranslated? Or must we hope that there would be some official English release (seems highly unlikely in this case)?

I have the iPhone version of Steins Gate patched on my iPhone. Now I see there's an update waiting for me to install in the app store...will updating wipe the patch out? If so, can I use the same files to patch again or are they version specific?

With the same translation? Blech.
Was the old translation not accurate? From what I've read, one of the problems with it is a lack of consistency because more than a translator was involved, but didn't see anything about the translation being inaccurate.
Anyways, I just bought it, since it's cheap enough (9,95) and there is the added bonus of being DRM free.

I can't speak to the accuracy but IIRC it didn't read well and just came off as sloppy overall.

I finally finished Muv Luv Alternative and it might be my favorite VN. Sometimes the naval gazing becomes a bit too much and you can predict some of the twists once you realize that shit is just going to keep on getting more and more fucked up, but it was a hell of a ride. The production values are definitely the best I've ever seen in a VN. It's a shame you have to play through the shitty Extra and the extended prologue Unlimited first, but it's well worth it.

I didn't really care for the art, but I got used to it and MLA's production values made it easy to forget about anything like that. The problem is that you have to play through Muv Luv Extra, which is a not very good harem comedy, and Unlimited, which is basically a very long prologue for Alternative, so it requires a large time investment.

Just started ever 17 ... while i think i understood the setting well , the prologue was extremly confusing ... i really hope some of my answers are explained , even if i can see some twists rights away...

Nothing, apparently. They even asked of a demo from Jast, iirc. And I have no clue to the progress on that. Steam's opened up a bit lately it seems, with the likes of Analogue and To The Moon getting accepted.

It's slowly progressing, but the whole public entrans method of doing it is kind of a mess. I really wonder what the quality of the translation will be when any random person on the internet can go and change/edit it and the shitty interface makes it difficult to track what has been changed. I know they've had problems with people machine translating things and putting it up there.

I'm going to rant a little bit about the Heaven's Feel route of Fate/Stay Night. I'll spoil the actual story stuff, but I'm going to preface it with the following.
Never has a character gone from a character I really like to being on my complete shit list faster than Tohsaka Rin!
Fate Route = She's cool
Unlimited Blade Works Route = So awsome!
Heaven's Feel Route = DIE IN A FIRE YOU EVIL UNCARING BITCH!

Now that I've stated that... spoilers.
Okay, so I totally understood when Rin was being cold toward Sakura earlier. I get that, she "knows" that Sakura's a lost cause and is either going to cause all sorts of misery by contracting with Avenger or die before that, so better to die earlier, right? She even described it as a mercy killing. I could understand that perspective. I can also understand not wanting to get too attached or that would make killing her all the tougher. I get that.
But during that final confrontation between Rin and Sakura, I lost any and all respect I had for Rin. All the suffering Sakura went through, the bug rape, brother rape, endless torture, and she just completely brushes it off as if it were nothing. She says "So? What of it? These things happen, no use in crying." Okay, fuck you bitch. Seriously, making light of domestic violence and rape as if they're nothing? Only a self-centered bitch who can dish it but can't take it would ever say something like that. I hoped the narration would say something like "She didn't mean that, but was trying to get Sakura off balance so she could make a move," or something. Then I could say "Well, she's super cold but it's not like she means it." But no, the narration actually confirmed she totally meant it. Fucking cunt! That pissed me off so much that I was actually HAPPY when I went for the Bad Ending where Sakura ends up sucking her into her darkness realm or whatever, put her through the exact same shit she had to deal with, and Rin didn't even last a day before crying like a baby and begging for Sakura to save her. It only confirmed for me my opinion of her above. She can dish it out but she can't take it.
But it's more than that for me. See, I understand that she could never truly understand what Sakura went through. I get that, I could never actually understand that either. I've never been raped/tortured, etc. I can even understand why she felt her past was no excuse to risk killing more people. Completely understand that. But she goes beyond that and completely dismisses the crimes against Sakura as nothing of note. "These things happen?" No, dropping a plate by accident "happens". Domestic Violence doesn't just happen, and to belittle the crime and say it's not a big deal is basically excusing the crime. It's like saying that Zouken and Shinji shouldn't be held responsible, as it's not a big deal, right? We don't establish laws to punish people for things that aren't a big deal, right? So why should Zouken or Shinji be held responsible? Does she even think they committed something worthy of being angry over? "These things happen," Rin? Fuck you. Seriously, my only complaint was that she only dies/suffers in the Bad Ending. I wish that had been the Good Ending. I do not take kindly to anyone, real or fake, who dismiss Domestic Violence/Rape/Torture as things that "Just happen" and "Aren't worth crying over". From now on, HF's Bad Ending route is canon in my mind. Fuck her.

So, uh... you did finish Heaven's Feel, right? Because it's rather difficult to do that and have that kind of interpretation.
As for Hollow Ataraxia, I think the Tsukihime remake would come out and get translated long before the translation's done.

right now i'm in a WHAT ? phase ...
See when i played Aoioshiro ..i had plenty of ending ( over 40 ) , lots of them were bad ending ( everyone dies , earth is doomed, etc etc ) but i had good endings and even happy endings !!
This is the good endings i'm going to get ?
I plan to go for Sora next time but i'm not sure if i'm ready for another "Good" ending ever 17 like given her situation ...

Oh I finished it. And it was in that final confrontation in the True Route that made me feel that way. I don't care if she let up at the very end, it doesn't dismiss the earlier stuff I mentioned in my mind.

VNs are still going to be very questionable - Valve is going to want stuff that is a) not pornographic in any release and thus can't be fanpatched with "official" porn content and b) guaranteed to sell at least reasonably well to justify the time it spends on the frontpage.
Stein's should fit those criteria, though, so we'll see. Valve deffo ain't hostile to Steam being a big tent, I know that much.

Then I think you've kinda missed the point of Tohsaka Rin's characterization. Her core personality doesn't change throughout any of the routes, although she's more open to talk about it during the Unlimited Blade Works route.
I think that she's basically a very good person at heart, but her father was a terrible influence and had her walk the path of magus (which as Fate/Zero would demonstrate, is a fucking awful idea). That's my interpretation of her character in a nutshell, and I would explain further if I had the time at the moment.

A couple of friends have been hounding me to play Steins;gate, so I took a leap of faith and bought it from the app store ($35 (._. )). I'm somewhere in chapter 1 I guess, I think the story is starting to get pretty interesting, but some of the 'otaku' stuff is really out there for me. For instance,
. I think I really like the game when it's all sciencey and the core story is being progressed, but once they regress to the wackiness, I start to drift. Still, I'm committed to it (especially after spending so much), so we'll see how it goes-

for brushing off Sakura's past as nothing big, influence or not. I'd have forgiven her if she had said something like "Sakura, I know you went through a lot, and I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you. But I can't change what's happened, and I can't let you use the suffering you've undergone as an excuse to risk hundreds or thousands of lives!" The message is somewhat similar, but at least has SOME sympathy, or at the very lease acknowledges the fact that Sakura was very clearly wronged for several years. Again, the Bad Ending confirmed for me that put Rin in the exact same situation and suddenly she's the one begging for mercy. She certainly doesn't seem to think it's nothing of note when SHE'S the victim, but it's nothing of note if it's Sakura. In other words, a self-centered cold hearted bitch.

Not sure what you mean by out there... Daru is an absurd caricature, luckily I would say pure wackness nonsense, is only like 15% of the story. It is a game set in AKI got to have some of that authentic culture.

Akatsuki No Goe trilogy (well one was a fan disc) coming to PS3 and PSP, get hype! Wish we could get an update on how the English fan translation of the PC version is coming along. I checked the thread over at Sakurahana where the updates are supposed to be, and it looks like there hasn't been an update in awhile. Also for some reason I don't see Akatsuki no Goe on the VNTL status tracker.

This game premise is surprisingly stupid.. but oh yeah this is dumb ..it start classic , with a weird twist and goes from there ...
The casting seems well diverse enough ..some good characters on the casting ..and the translation seems well adequate ...
Overall nice demo , game is cool , premise is 200% stupid , but there is some fun to be had with this game..

Overall it definitly deserve a praise in the OP thread ...because of the execution, because of the many twists and finally because everything was explained properly...
Some things were almost too powerfull to be taken seriously , ( almost ) like
But in the end the conclusion was worth it .. i still need to see sora & tsugumi extra scenes BTW
