I think I'll jump right into episode 4 within a day or so, then give it a break for a while. After that, I'll watch the anime for a refresher, then get into the Answers half.

Noo you gotta play 5+6 and then take a break to prepare for the looong exposition parts. 5 and 6 have perhaps the least dull moments out of all episodes with perhaps the very beginning of 5 being. IIRC that is.
It won't, what you see is pretty much what you get. That game is literally just an excuse for porn. I think I said it before here, but if you didn't care for the characters in DMMd then you won't care much if at all for the fluff shenanigans in the fandisc.
You should play Mink's bad end though, it's absolutely hilarious. I think you might like that at least? Aoba's alter ego is a nut, it's a shame we didn't get more of him.
I recently finished Kotori's route in If My Heart Had Wings.
With the uncensored patch of course
Gotta say for my first VN on PC it wasn't to bad, but oh man the parts about the gilder sometimes got a bit excessive. They would go into so much depth I would zone out and just keep clicking. Thankfully the characters keep you going through and are very entertaining. Besides all that I'm not sure how long it took me but it sure seemed like it was a lot of time invested for just one route.
Also I think Kotaku was right for once, depending on what you want there's really no need for the uncensored stuff. It doesnt add anything to the story at all. hell if anything it just makes it a little more odd.

I thought it was fine. It does exactly what it needs to when it comes to telling the story and showcasing the characters. There did seem to be a odd typo or grammatical error here and there but that might have been from the patch I added. So I say if that was your biggest concern I wouldn't worry much about it.

I can second this. I'm moving through the game very slowly, but the translation does the job. It's far from perfect, but the more complete patch is supposed to be out by the end of the year, and that should fix most (if not all) errors.
Because of that, I'm waiting until the patch is finished. :/
I do think 7+8 are probably my least favourite ones as a whole (especially 7 tho both have great stuff in them that is for certain. They just feel like a bit too much of stuff cramped together without it being well paced enough) but I'd never recommend anyone to not read them.
They felt a bit too much of ''well we have to explain some things now at the end don't we?'' but personally the overarchin mystery wasn't the main hook of the series at all for me. Rather it was just the fun and tense situations that especially 3, 5 and 6 had in them.
I guess it kinda is the opposite of 999 or VLR. The stuff in the middle was ok but the ending was the main course. It's the other way round for me with Umi.

The mystery was the entire point of Umineko though. Like, giving some answers to the riddles it presented as inevitable because Umineko is a Mystery Novel.
Also 7 had the best pacing of the series. Umineko is infamously slow paced, 7 is the only exception. Managing to make each part of the story flow smoothly. I don't get how you managed to get it not being well paced.

I know it had to answer some things but as I said it personally wasnt the number 1 hook for me. I know tjhere are some people who theorized about the plot a lot when the series was ongoing but I read Umineko right when 8 was translated so I just gobbled the whole package so I wasnt around when the mystery part of the story was perhaps at its strongest.
Anyway as for the pacing I perhaps was referring to 8 more that has a lot of silly fluff. But as I said I liked the series the most when the
game part
was the most prominant and 7 has the least of that for what I remember. Was the writing well paced? I'll take your word for it but it really was the most exposition heavy of all episodes. I totally get that many would think some of the other episodes are too slow paced but I liked that stuff.
To be honest ep7 is the one I remember least about but I do remember I didnt really care for the first half of it if my memory serves how the ep was constructed.
TLDR: ep 7 is certainly important but it just wasnt that much fun especially following 5+6.
Oh yeah 8 had it's problems, it was actually fairly rushed and the manga adaptation of it has given it some extensive rewrites and additions that improve it.
Looking back, my favorite Umineko Episodes were 6, 3, 5, and 2. 7 honestly just felt boring to me, and 8 just got a little too absurd. I still enjoyed the series as a whole, of course, though I just didn't care about the mystery as much as the characters, I guess.
My favorite was probably 2 or 4, but there were a couple moments in 5 & 6 I loved. I can see why the last two are divisive, though I still enjoyed them.

You're saying stupid and wrong things, I have to correct you. Not my fault you completely failed to get the story.

Yeah, pretty much a Nukige. Pretty disappointed.
Sly is cool though, why can't he be the MC instead of Aoba? Would be a more entertaining game with him trolling everyone.
Song of Saya. Aselia is a decent SRPG, though the writing isn't great. Demonbane is a kind of amusing giant robot/Lovecraft mix if you can get past the porn (way too much of it) and some poor pacing. I know some people like Yume Miru Kusuri, but I didn't care for it.

It's more like Ogre Battle. You assemble units and move them on a map where you have to take cities and locations. When you meet an enemy unit it triggers a battle that plays out automatically based on how you positioned your units. It's turn based. There is also a simple resource management aspect with the map portion of the game.
It's much more of a VN than Fire Emblem. A lot more text and there is branching with a ton of different character routes. The VN sections play out between battles.
Also I don't care about porn or eroge, I'm home alone enough that I'm not concerned
Got a bit further in Saya no Uta, how much longer do I have with this magically fucked up game?
Saya spoilers:
Fuck Saya, and fuck Sakisaka. I just finished the part where Kouji acquired the revolver. I like the depth these characters have, one moment I was fine and felt somewhat bad for Saya; the next and current moment, I want her to meet a horrible end. Poor Yoh. :-(
Crescendo (same developers as Kana and takes place in the same universe)
Kana~Little Sister (no voice acting, iirc).
Family Project ~Kazoku Keikaku~ (also the same developers as Kana and Crescendo. For a while it was the highest rated visual novel title). Might take place in the same universe as the other two. Not sure.
The above three are character and story focused, but have some sex scenes as well.
Song of Saya ~ a short game but pretty interesting story. From the writer who created Puella Magi Madoka Magika.
Yume Miru Kusuri :: a drug that makes you dream (though only 1 of the 3 scenarios is great (bullying). one is ok (drugs). one is a sex romp (interpersonal).)
Yeah, pretty much a Nukige. Pretty disappointed.

Honestly you were setting yourself up for disappointment from the start, it's just a fandisc lol.
idk, I like Sly but I genuinely really like Aoba too. I wouldn't want one over the other, but another game with him and his crazy shenanigans would be dead cool.
I'm confused, all those game have English subtitles? (sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question, but I thought Steins; Gate and some of this stuff had not official translation yet...)

Saw that in Steiner's blog earlier (there's a bit of translation and info there), and he says it's a sequel, still in Shibuya. I wanna be excited but I don't know if there's any chance it will be translated
I just want to finish the game already and see Grisaia no Meikyuu and Rakuen get translated already!
Also, I just wanted to say that Makina's route was fantastic. I would be more attracted to her if it weren't for her stunted growth and childish mannerisms, but her quips more than make up for it.
