EPA attacks AP reporter and sources Breitbart after story on flooded toxic sites

Can you put people in jail for some of this stuff, it's criminal.

How does this actually make anyone money, backhanded even?

The EPA is working as designed for this administration. Their purpose is to play cover up now, not protection.

Pruitt is a big oil/gas guy so the EPA is useless now and only serves the interest of fossil fuel companies. Trump also just nominated a climate change denier to head NASA.

"The best people."

Isn't AP like the most neutral news organization in existence? As neutral as you can get and seldomly go into much editorializing or opinion pieces if ever. It doesnt get more neutral than AP but they are biased for the Trump organization! I guess truth has a liberal bias huh?

These agencies need more 'checks and balances' through law, imho. It's weird that they can be used to push whatever political agenda.

I don't know how this country can move forward when a huge percentage of the population would rather listen to Rush and Hannity over science.

If we can't even agree over fucking science what can we agree on with them.

Huge is not "the majority".

This is the most disconcerting about this situation, honestly. I've had plenty of people on "the right" tell me to source something 'less biased' (when I'm citing NYT, WaPo, The Hill) and then suggest the AP.

we probably don't because i can't remember the last time we had a president micromanage the EPA this much. they've usually been not used as a PR arm of the President.

Reagan. His first EPA chief was Anne Gorsuch, mother of Supreme Court Justice, Neil. Under orders from the president, she slashed the agency's budget by 25% and declined to enforce most regulations. Two years into Reagan's first term, she had to resign in disgrace after she refused to turn over Superfund documents amidst accusations of misconduct.

And then there was EPA's assistant administrator at the time, Rita Lavelle. As the Washington Post reported back then:

At the heart of the controversy was Superfund, the program set up by Congress to clean up hazardous toxic waste dumps in the wake of the Love Canal disaster. And at the head of Superfund was Rita Lavelle, facing charges of ignoring environmentalists, and of eating restaurant dinners paid for by industry executives, the latter provoking inquiries about possible violations of the EPA ethics code.

Lavelle says she never read the EPA ethics code because no one told her about it. "I was never shown an ethics code, and it's typical of what happens to a lot of people when they come to Washington," she says. "You're not trained; you're not told how to conduct yourself . . ."

In addition, unnamed EPA sources began telling investigators that Lavelle had taken part in decisions involving her former employer, Aerojet-General Corp., which is charged with maintaining one of California's worst toxic waste sites. Lavelle denies this.

So, yeah, history is repeating itself. Hopefully these new hacks will be exposed like Reagan's cronies were. But that was contingent on a House that was held by Democrats, which allowed them to launch investigations. Vote in those midterms, people.

Gotta keep moving that goalpost.

The majority of the public is really irrelevant at this point, the only majority that matters is the voting majority. And a hell of a lot of those people trust Rush, Hannity, and Facebook over the news.

Lol, but you know how it is: "my morals and standards that prevented me from voting for Hillary Clinton were more important than the environment."

Environmental Activists who allowed this administration to take over are the worst.

This isn't what dooms America. It's the stupidity and complacency of the average America who aren't really effected by any of this stuff.

What will happen is we will vote in a demo president next election, everyone will cheer and say all kinds of feel good shit about "America will never make that mistake again", then check back 8 years later and America elects a trash ass ultra conservative nutjob yet again and folks go "oh muh gawd, how did dis happenz!? Amerikaz so fux0red!"

Anyone blatantly voting against their interests were the worst, especially those who are actually self aware about it and not, say, disgruntled coal miners losing their jobs but probably could have gotten more out of Hillary (or at least a non-Donald R candidate.) The LGBT who somehow thought Hillary would be bad, the Bernie or Bust-ers that'd rather vote Trump in over Hillary despite the ideological stances being closer between Hillary/Bernie than Trump/Bernie, the people who just didn't like Hillary and were sure that Trump was bluffing... it's aggravating. By all rights this should have been the curb stomp to end all curb stomps but a lot of people were that blindly loyal to party and people in the middle really did buy the nonsense on Hillary while ignoring how repugnant of a human Trump was.

Pretty much.
America has undone all of the good reputation Obama has garnered. Literally undone all of it. His entire legacy has been wiped away. But that's what America wanted.

There is a considerable population that will do it's best to hold back America and stop it from achieving greatness. That will never change.

My biggest hope once this clusterfuck Trump administration is over (please God let it only be 4 years at most) is that seeing the EPA and other organizations turned to shit will allow for laws to reinforce these regulations and agencies, so one President and a simple majority in congress won't have the power to radically fuck up everything.

Sadly I think something bigger will have to happen, like a nuclear waste spill in a heavily Trump-supporter state, for any dramatic change to stick, but the way things are going that's almost a certainty.

Thus "alternative facts."

It still wouldn't change a lot of people's minds. They'd find a way to blame Obama or the Democrats.

It's fuckin nuts that we're at a place where it's totally normal for government agencies to casually attack the credibility of anyone covering them in a negative way--not even the sources or the facts, but the reporter, personally!--and to cite fake partisan garbage like Breitbart.

Whoever is in office after Trump needs to immediately fire all of these clowns and properly fund the agency.

Just think of the complicit civil servants in their communication division who put this statement together. And they're not going to want to give up this power. This is a full step into fascism.

It's unprofessional conduct anywhere, except in the Trump admin, apparently. From the outside, it's kind of an amazing clusterfuck dumpster fire that tipped over a pile of tires that are collectively with the clusterfuck dumpster inside a flaming dumpster the size of a mountain. And that image is still not an adequate description of how fucked the US is now.

They don't have the majority and yet they are winning and keep winning.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

the EPA doing a heel turn on the environment is one of the weirdest things to come out of this nightmare.

It's not weird, it's by design. The GOP does not want environmental regulation or policy that reflects a belief in climate change.

I can't help but imagine that should bite them in the ass in the long run as their holdouts are the state's that will be most devastated by climate change. But then they're already economically fucked up for the most part so I guess it's all just fucked.

The fact that this is an official statement from a government agency is just insane to me. The utter lack of decorum is so bizarre that it borders on unfathomable. What the fuck is going on with this country.

This is the republican party. It defines every last one of them, no exception. They are all hypocrites and idiots and some are morons who pretend to be smart. They lie about everything and they believe their own lies.

Their ideology must no longer exist in this world if humanity is to have a future.

Everything is Trump now. Apparently, nothing matters to people anymore.

If only we had an agency that protected the environment...

Imagine that. You call the EPA for an environmental crisis and fucking Alex Jones picks up the goddamn phone... Well, you no longer have to imagine.

WE'RE FUCKED.

EPA
State Department
Department of Energy/Education/Justice etc

and the list goes on

Don't vote though guys. It obviously doesn't matter, both sides are the same. I would so like to throw a boot to some of these people. And a few of them are on gaf.
