Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold:The Fafnir Knight |OT| What a horrible Knight to have a curse

Sorry, probably stupid question: on the menu screen what does "Emperor 1" , "Emperor 2" mean? Just Chapter 1, Chapter 2 or something?

ugh
amazon estimate is aug 10-14
god dammit
Yes, I like how pre-ordering the game means probably missing out on the FREE period for the first DLC wave.

That combined with an upcoming business trip is why I went and got my copy locally today on my lunch break instead of ordering it online :v

Now to sit here and stare at it on my desk for the rest of the day at work until I can go home and play...

Emperor 1 is the date. Emperor is the month.

Edit: a full page of Shishou. Zweizer pls

You called?

Hmm, I think I'll replace Ronin with Highlander, so my party will be

P/Hi/W
H/G

Was thinking of a full DPS party with R/Hi/G, but I want to try a more ailment focused party this time round.

Sorry pink Ronin, but mushrooms are more interesting.

They sure are!

Just to be sure, the "portrait DLC" for all the extra classic mode portraits, as well as the Highlander DLC, is launching alongside the game, right?

Really looking forward to this, although I too have heard it has some problems with bosses being HP sponges in Classic simply due to being balanced around Fafnir's insane Story-mode damage.

EDIT: Hyuuuuuurp, this is answered in the op. go me.

Really bummed the free dlc is just one week. I preordered this like day 1, always support these things, but amazon being dumb means I might get it a day or so after the free dlc stops being free.

Bleh. One week isn't enough, why not at least 2? :(

Let the mapping commence. I've decided to be conservative to start with and go with a boring PHDGM party arrangement. Protector for tanking, Highlander for physical damage, Dark Hunter for binds, Gunner for elemental shots, and Medic for healing. Covers a lot of bases and should be okay in the short term.

I'm impressed by the changes to the classes, it may be a lot of small changes for most of them but the EOI/II classes are far more interesting than they've ever been. Though they're still not as good as EOIII/IV's, it's a nice step up from what EOU gave us. I look forward to trying some of them out later, working other classes into the story mode characters might take some work though.

The bigger surprise for me though is that I'm actually looking forward to messing around with grimoires this time. While I still greatly miss subclassing, this is massive step up from how they were in EOU. I'm already getting some ideas for improving my party.

And since I've already played the original EOII, I know the dungeons will not be as dull as EOU's. I also like the changes to the first stratum so far, hopefully I can expect more new ideas like what's in there.

I have a feeling that I'll really like this one.

Question about the free DLC, is that something I can download at anytime or do I have to progress the game to a specific point?

You can download at anytime, but to actually access the missions, you'll need to be at a certain point of the game.

Does the dlc have to be purchased in game? We can't just get it from the eshop?

Just download it while it's free (or start the download, it'll be listed as "purchased") and you're good to go. And yes, you can only access the DLC page if you have the game and boot it, it's on the title screen. You don't have access to it without the game.

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS

MULTIPLE SAVE SLOTS

Really can't wrap my head around the idea of wanting to play two files at once when you can get the best of both worlds in the Untold games with NG+ which has been around since EO3 and yet I think people still don't know how that works in the Untold games (that NG+ lets you mix story and classic mode characters). Also, adding the ability for leapfrog saves kind of feel against the spirit of the game in my opinion.

But that's just me, I guess.

The nintendo way of dlc means you need to do it through the game. I hate all things nintendo online dammit.

Just got my copy. Downloading the free DLC's.

Anyone know why Ultimate Feather Warrior DLC says "Expired!" I assume it's a mistake?

Edit: actually a TON of DLC says it's expired. I guess that just means not available yet? In which case, 'expired' is a poor descriptor.

Edit 2: yeah, that DLC is just not yet available yet. I should've read the OT more carefully. Anyway, got the first set of free stuff.

Maybe he's sharing the cartridge with a significant other. Or maybe he just wants to keep his old file around whenever he starts a new game later on. Trying to spin multiple save slots as a negative is weird as hell to me.

So only the demo can be downloaded right now? Not sure I have enough blocks free anyway for the game. Guess I will order from Amazon.

Maybe people want to be able to compare both modes without having to start over multiple times? Or keep their old file when starting NG+ because there's an endgame boss they might still want to go back and try again? Or maybe just want to let someone else in the family play on their copy without having to delete their save later down the road?

When you're going to post that you "can't wrap your head around" something, stop and think for a second about whether that's really true, and if it is, about why. Is it really something that's so tough to understand? Is the idea of someone finding utility in something that's a straightforward and unambiguous upgrade really that weird?

In this particular case, the NG+ does something cool but it doesn't even cover most of the scenarios I would come up with for wanting multiple saves -- it's nice but it definitely doesn't perfectly substitute.

Playing two or more files at once yourself is not the same thing as sharing the game.

Hmm, what so broken about Highlander? Granted, I never finished EOU, but he seemed average up till where I played up to.

Late game highlanders in EOU were crazy strong. They can deal big damage to groups of enemies with little to no windup (unlike, say, a ronin or dark hunter) and heal the entire party while doing it. They also add another unique attack buff (Bloody Offense) into the mix which can stack with other attack buffs, which makes your party's damage even better. In EOU they were almost required to clear the postgame boss on Expert mode if you wanted to do it in a timely manner.

The person you quoted didn't say anything about playing two or more files at once. They just expressed jubilation that multiple save files existed.

Highlanders were OP as heck. Limitless and Bloody Offense went together so well, and Delayed Charge and Cross Charge would murder bosses.

Downloaded the game. Usually I hate digital but didn't want to wait. Lol. Just started the story mode. I'm also turning on auto mapping. I was debating whether to do classic or story, but since I enjoyed the story in Untold 1, figured I would go that route again.

Yo, actual mechanics question here: the Princess link ability scales almost exclusively off Tec, right, rather than weapon damage? So for a link-focused Princess, it's best to give her a +Tec staff?

I like that the skills now tell you generally what they scale off of, but links have worked various ways in the past so I want to make sure I understand exactly what's going on here.

So, to get all the medals would I need to beat story mode and then switch to classic on newgame+?

Or are medals shared between files?

Definitely seems to be more talking amongst the characters in story mode compared to Untold MG. I struggled a bit in the first level until the dog was briefly part of the party. Wasn't expecting to see the deer FOE on the floor either.

Should scale exclusively off TEC.

Each save has its own guild card, and they're not shared.
Really, even with NG+?
Obviously that's the case with multiple concurrent files but beating the story then switching to classic should keep your card for any exclusive monsters, dungeon completion %, or items that you can only obtain on that side.
Didn't EOU carry the card over in NG+?

NG+ should carry over the card unless something has been changed. I was talking about separate saves.

slayn

needs to show more effort.
Finished stratum 1 last night. I'm playing story mode given that I already beat EO2 long ago with my party of choice and the story class is pretty interesting. He reminds me of EO4 Imperial where you chain attacks together. The story stuff so far has been... inoffensive. Which is about as much praise as you will ever see me give an EO story.

The one change I made to the story party is I made the war magus girl to a Dark Hunter because I love binds and the party having two healing force breaks is overkill. A force break that lands 2-3 binds and poisons is way better.

I invested fully in links for the princess which means right now my party has no healer but I haven't found that to be problem at all so far.

And I've quite enjoyed the level designs so far.
