I have my copy ordered from Amazon, should arrive this Monday/Tuesday. I haven't played an eo game since the first one many years ago, I can't wait.

I'm getting ready to play again myself. I want to get my party to 99 (currently around 95-97), retire and do newgame+

forgot about NG+. Not doing that still heh.

Retail - Ovahpowared party foreverrrr
Digital - my throwaway file when I feel like playing through the game again. Maybe in my lifetime I'll have over 10 playthroughs of EOIV.

I played EOIII twice with the same party setup and I got the 3 endings each time. And I had another playthrough with a different party.

Been playing the EU demo, and have left the 3DS in sleep mode last two nights because of the utterly stupid 3 use.

According to the Activity Log, it's been played twice with an average playtime of 4hrs!

Still deciding if I want the full version. I finished EO1 a few weeks ago and this seems a bit clean and clinical in comparison. It's very user friendly: plenty of helpful text, easy to raise money, and how many shortcuts? Maps are also very small in comparison. Skills seem a lot better this time.

Went with L, D, N at front and S, R at back. I've currently replaced the D with a F and moved the N to the back. Tried a Cutter (all characters at level 8 apart from the F who was at 3), and only had one person standing by the end. The F seemed to get no experience points so I stopped.

I've got one play left to get the party leveled as far as I can and defeat the remaining FOEs (cutters and kangaroos). Then to decide if I want the full game.

I think the question is: Is the following a good thing or a bad thing?

Also, the floor 1 map is always short compared to later floors. And this game has some extra 1-floor dugeons around in the overworld, I bet you already ran into one in the demo (and it told you that you can get inside in the full game)

I'm on the second... stratum? and the maps are bigger than in the first.

Just had a quick look at the maps. Some of the later stratums have much bigger maps and similar to EO1's. Although there seem to be only 3 floors instead of 5 so much less to map.

Anteo, I think I found 2 or 3 of the caves.

Still have to decide....

I think there are like 4 caves in the first field.

MY GAWD, I just finished with my demo uses.

I finally get it! I was a bit confused on my first two goes, but on that third try I just played for about 2 hours and got up to the end of the demo (which was really beefy as well).

Can't wait until it comes out here. 12 September, not long to go!

Edit: I hope NIS gets on to localising Millenium Girl soon, also are Soul Hackers and SMT4 like this game at all? I often see these games talked about together and I'd be interested in getting at least one of the two.

I streetpassed someone who had this as their last-played title. At least it sold one copy around here.

I'm almost tempted to buy the game just so he doesn't feel lonely.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Such a great game. Got pretty far into the 2nd "region" until FFXIV launched and sucked me away. Really need to get back to it though, adore this little gem. Highly recommended and one of my favorite releases this year.

2nd stratum boss is owning me.

Gonna grind a little.

Get new equips first if you haven't, sometimes is the equips that make the diference.

Also, Hint:
Try to seal her head with a head bind. The guest member should have a skill for that. The boss wont be able to deal any magic damage for a while.

The second boss is Arcanist training, in a way. The game gives you a guest character whose binding circles can make the fight much easier by binding the feet of the boss and its helpers (to keep your attacks from missing) and head (to keep them from casting spells).

How many binding circles you can have at once?

I had this game pre-ordered from a games shop but they still don't have it in stock. Hopefully they'll give me a call tomorrow. I'm planning on playing this straight away and continue with the same progress from the demo.

Just one. If it fails to bind, you don't need to immediately recast. The circle will keep trying for however many turns it lasts so at least you're free to take other actions compared to spamming Sniper's bind skills.

Anyone know whats up with Aus situation? It was meant for release aug 30th like the rest of the eu and now I check it's been pushed back to the 12th? Not bothered, just curious for the reason for the near 2 week delay.

Yeah another week and a half for Aussies - if it shows up on the eShop earlier than that will probably cancel my EB preorder and grab digital version

Anyways, grinded from 25 to 29, bought some new stuff and finally beat the queen.

It wasn't as painful as it sounds because I got very lucky with rare breed FOEs... it's silly, a golden moa (and they're a pushover) coughed up like 30k experience.

Explored the third area a little, things are getting dangerous heh.

I am debating wether to swap in an arcanist, they're an awesome class but who do I swap out? The Fortress is way too useful, the landsknecht is nice damage, the dancer is the party healer, the runemaster dishes out craptons of damage and the sniper is a very consistent source of damage.

I am sorta meh on this whole idea that half of the game is managing buffs, it gets tiresome. On this topic, i noticed the info screen that shows what buffs and debuffs are active, and there's only 3 slots per character... does this mean you can't have more than 3 active effects? Or rather you can but they're not shown?

I was wondering why this thread is suddenly in the main gaming forum and not the community, and just realized that the game just came out in Europe. Hope you guys enjoy the game! Really one of the best JRPG on the 3DS.

I dropped my Sniper for an Arcanist.

You cant have more than 3. Also, any party with a dancer/arcanist will be about managing buffs, you could use a medic instead, they use instant heal instead.

My party is: Landschneckt/Nightseeker/Fortress - Medic/Runemaster, and is all about getting that status effect with the NS and using the Land/Fort to lower the enemy damage output. I dont have many party buffs, in fact, the only character that can buff the party is the arcanist, and that just reduces some specific elemental attacks. The medic can buff himself to heal more/affect more allies with spells but that's situational, and the fortress have taunt/defense buff but most of the time I just use party shield and call it a day. So I don't see many buffs in my party all the time unless is a boss fight

That's almost certainly the way to go. An Arcanist can bind all enemies at once with a circle, Circle Boon and Dismiss Heal are extremely powerful party-wide healing skills and Bracing Walk means you'll rarely have to heal between encounters again. A Sniper's so-so offense and single target binds don't offer that same level of utility

Snipers are invaluable for a link team though. And they provide decent damage from the back row, especially if you don't have a Runemaster.

I started playing the game again after months of putting it down for a while. I just started doing some quests that didn't involve me going deep inside a Labyrinth and instead revolved around killing boss monsters. I'm falling back in love with it! The battle system of this game is so organic and when you plan out an attack to take down some seemingly impossible boss everything comes together beautifully.

In terms of progress though, I"m around halfway through with the 3rd labyrinth. That's like 50% through the main game right? Which is ridiculous because I've already played it for like, 40 hours. I'm looking forward to Millennium Girl.too It's nice to know there will always be an Etrian Odyssey game to play.

If the current party is FLD/RS, swapping out the Dancer might also make sense. That'd turn it into FL/RSA where the Arcanist binds legs, the Sniper fires off Squall Volleys and the Linkshnekt chases. Might be a little easier than managing dances and circles at the same time as in a FLD/RA setup.

Anyways, been messin with the 3rd area.

It's been a bit rough because I didn't realize of 2 things...

a) There was a way past some tornados (exploration fail heh)
b) A fetch quest got complicated because I was distracted by a big urn which I thought was involved while the real quest target was cleverly disguised.

Characters are now level 33 and having found the geomagnetic pole for the 3rd labyrinth I was thinking perhaps on retiring the whole party. It's gonna be a bit of grinding but 4 extra skill points is incredibly sweet...

One last question, so far on both previous labyrinths I've found a locked chest on the last floor... have I missed something or is it gonna come around later?

A suddenly low-level team with a bunch of higher level gear shouldn't have much of a problem, especially if you're able to farm golden sheep in the Scarlet Pillars area.

Not to spoil anything, but you'll be able to open those much later.
