The people who hate Pepe tend to see him through the lens of the occasional poor moment (his antics during the CL final being a huge part of the recent anti-Pepe narrative), or just remember his reputation under Mourinho. The people who like him tend to watch him over long stretches of time, and know he's a calm presence on the pitch more often than not.

What someone thinks of Pepe is a good barometer of their overall humanity. If you hate him, chances are you aren't using your critical thinking skills, imagination, or empathy. If you like him, you're probably a decent person, a Real Madrid/Portugal fan, or both. That's how this works.
