Everwild wasn't at E3 because it has been 'completely rebooted'

Yeah, not a big surprise honestly, if i remember correctly they said they didn't even know what their game was about.

That's a really interesting bit of info, and one I think is kinda cool. Games rely on violence WAY too much for gameplay, even if it's cartoony/stylized. I mean come on, even Mario is running into the Koopas homes and crushing them or burning them alive. It makes it even worse in NSMB that you slaughter them while they are dancing to happy music. :messenger_tongue: (seriously, did no one at Nintendo see how dark this can look?).

Reading this makes me MORE interested in it. Take the time to come up with something fresh.

Maybe it could be like Animal Crossing++.

It's cool. Its usually a small team during bring up anyways. They just announced it too early. Games get the ax all the time. I guess they'll rework it since they already invested marketing mindshare into it. Hell if The Last Guardian came out OK anything is possible.

I think why it was in development hell (or still is) is because of that mandate Andy later added in the article about the game having no combat. Makes designing balance and interactivity more challenging without having some sort of external negative force bringing some excitement to the mix.

From the trailers I got some MAJOR princess mononoke vibes.

Was really looking forward to seeing more of this.

Ah well, guess we will see this in a few years.

i mean you can do that, you can have some kind of challenge without combat, but you need to have a clear vision from the start imho.
I hope they can find it with Mayles and release their game.

What's the actual point in buying an Xbox at the moment? 2023 I'll look at one but until then? They have almost no new content
There's new content coming for the rest of the year and beyond...

I'm saving like $500 by being a game pass sub because I was planning on playing Back4Blood, Psychonauts 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, AoE4, Yakuza 7, the indies shown, etc. If I wanted to, I could cash in my Rewards points I've saved up over the past 3 months or so to buy BF2042 or Far Cry 6 "for free". There's a shit ton to play.

Ffs rare, I just want some remakes of your best games from the n64 days, none of this "develops for three years to get 70~ on metacritic" crap (or give us a viva piñata game, we haven't gotten a release since the 360 days)

All of their N64 games (except the ones with Nintendo owned IPs) are playable on Xbox already.

Well that pretty much sucks. Still, better to reboot before you have nailed down the game play anyway. Gregg Mayles has an awesome track record, so that gives some confidence. I'm hoping they launch Everwild in a much better state than Sea of Thieves was in at launch. It is still pretty sad that they can only rely on one creative director to get things right. I always thought Rare could be a multi team studio, but it kind of seems like that isn't possible

Exactly, last E3 Rare said they don't even know what it was ... just a visionary trailer... how can it be rebooted if it never started or a baseline existed. ..?

Gregg Mayles is seriously great - he is the "miyamoto" at rare basically. I am now way more positive on Everwild. He will make it into something interesting

They should definitely make it a single player game. Too many online/co-op games in their portfolio and I believe this was heading toward that genre as well.

Most of those games are on ps5, not interested in forza, Fs or aoe. And if I was I'd just play them on PC

One could easily flip that onto Sony:

"Why buy a PS5? I'm not interested in Returnal, I never liked the Ratchet series...and I can just play Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West (the latter 3 being Sony's biggest games for the near future) on my PS4."

That version hits a little different though.

Rare seems to be a trainwreck. Sea of Thieves took an eternity and turned out mediocre. Now this? Maybe managing studios is harder than I thought.

This "game" was a waste of money from the start.

Its simply woke cancer where someone says we're gonna have a hot chick in leathers slaughtering zombies up to her tits in blood but a diversity hire raises her chubby hand, all masculine taste is questioned everywhere until there's nothing left in game development anywhere.

Yes - we get it, the world is fucked. Yes, mens actions wiped out rainforests and polluted our ecosystem to extinction.

Just leave us with our games and go plant your forests and we'll stop setting real shit on fire for entertainment.

That comparison is incredibly off. Plus if you're bringing last gen into this conversation then you're playing yourself

I remember last E3 when I mocked the fact that Microsoft used this game and Fable as filler that wouldn't see the light of day for two or more years and everybody got upset. We'll, here it is.

The director did seem like a bit of a flake tbh...coughdiversityhire...(like she's been to one too many burning man festivals, if you catch what I mean), not surprised at all, hopefully they add combat and make it more akin to BotW, albeit, differentiating themselves a bunch and not emulating the things that sucked about that game, if you're trying to create a new age recruiting tool, maybe Rare is not the place for that.

Edit: darn it, looks like someone else left, not full of confidence here...

Isn't this the same game where they were bragging about how it's like nothing anyone's done before and they're unsure what it is? Yeah, this completely checks out.

I think the difference would be the PC version would be just as good as the Series X version though. I cant imagine actually WANTING to play God of War or Horizon on a base PS4.

1st off..those games (Ragnarok. Forbidden West and GT7) very well may come to PC.
Maybe not day and date, but they most likely are (I'll bump this thread if they do).

2nd, don't talk about anyone else "WANTING" to do what; speak for yourself instead of the 110+ million PS4 owners out there.
If the community really felt like you say, Jim Ryan wouldve never greenlit PS4 versions of those games. Sony knows good and well that plenty of copies will sell on PS4.

But the fact is, you literally dont need a PS5 until the next God of war, the next Horizon, the next Gran Turismo, the next Spiderman (or whenever Naughty Dog/Sony Santa Monica/Bend studios PS5 exclusives get announced).

There's just no getting around that.

What are you talking about? Lol people will always want to play the best version of the game whether they CAN is a whole different story... Yes there's still a market for PS4 users that much is obvious but the only reason people have a PS4 at this stage is because they couldn't get a PS5 either due to not being able to get one at launch or due to lack of funds. In relation to those games coming out on PC it's not out of the realms of possibility but if you're a PC gamer waiting for Sony exclusives you're going to wait a long time, the same can't be said about Xbox exclusives that's the difference.
