Evil Within System & Hard Disk Requirements (PC/Consoles), strongly suggests 4GB VRAM

Was that so hard, Bethesda? There we go. Owners of 2GB 600+ cards will have a great time with the game, especially at 1080p.

Should a new thread be made for new news? It'll take a while to shake the stigma of needing a 4GB card now...

you'd think they'd be better at explaining PC requirements than most publishers, huh? I'm glad they issued a follow up, they needed to, but this could have been avoidable. I'll be fine with turning down AA, SSAO, and turning off tessellation.

But you won't experience their VISION

lol who fucking cares

I'm ready.

Games need much better system requirement info than the current standard provides. A minimum for each class of cpu would be a good start.

i7 860 is the minimum requirement I guess unless you have an i5 that is faster or an i3 or even a celeron depending on what year you bought the pc.

Crisis averted, then? After this and the Shadows of Mordor panic I hope that we've all learned a valuable lesson here.

still not sure PC or PS4

3570k
7870 2gb
8GB ram

I'd say PC, both your CPU and graphics card are better than the ones powering the PS4.

That's not how comparing console to pc works..., but say whatever you want.

Hah, they found a 460 laying around or ebayed one for cheap and ran a test with it.

These devs just don't have a bunch of different pc's to test this on.
That's gotta be it. These are still ridiculous requirements. An i7 as *minimum*? Cant play at 1080p without *recommended*(ie 4GB vRAM)?

C'mon now.

I couldn't help but wonder if this is some sort of ploy from Intel, AMD and Nvidia in order to get more people to upgrade. Then I gave it some more thought and I realised that game publishers would have no reason to agree to something like this since listing artificially inflated system requirements would reduce their game sales. So I ended up on the classic saying "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".

Is the i5 not equivalent? What kind of i7? Will the game actually be using HT?

My Xeon CPU hopes so^^ HT should be used more often. But I guess games just don't care (except Crytek).

EDIT: i7 can mean everything ... from i7 2700k to i7 5960X

To be fair, an i7 is also recommended for Mordor and benchmarks show ancient, shit AMD CPUs pushing 100fps with a good video card.

Wait... Wrong thread? Now I'm confused.

yo can i get a link for this as i have an ancient AMD cpu but a somewhat decent card :p

That's what I don't get - this is gonna do nothing but scare some people off buying it.

My conspiracy idea was that they are trying to get people to buy consoles, cuz they know people pay more money for the game on console.

I do like the idea that they simply don't have a range of PC's to test this on, though. That sounds plausible to me.

Don't put so much thought in it. Alexandros is probably right. The people releasing it were stupid or lazy like most of the population. It's not healthy to see conspiracies everywhere.

These threads are hilarious. I wonder which game will be next to be revealed as requiring bonkers specs, only for them to inevitably turn out to be nonsense?

I don't see conspiracies everywhere! lol Far, far from it. I wasn't really being serious as my last comment suggested.

Not having a range of PC's to test on isn't a conspiracy theory, its an entirely possible scenario.

Awesome, I've got an HD5850 which is barely faster than the 460. I was afraid I wouldn't even be able to play the game. Hopefully I can get it to run in 1080p by reducing other settings. Up scaling sucks D:

Fuck the recommended specs. Just bought the game on GMG. I have a 7850HD (2GB), an i5 2500k and 8GB of ram. I'm sure it will suffice.

Bring on the 14th.

Well it's an improvement, but...

Minimum requirements for The Evil Within can now be found below. You won’t be experiencing the game at 1080p and you’ll likely need to turn off some features, but you will still be able to have a great experience with the game.

That scares me just a bit. The last time I had to lower the resolution to play a game at a reasonable FPS was back when I was using a CRT monitor!

Minimum requirements are a GPU released in 2010... 4 years old GPU.

Okay that update doesn't sound too bad for me. Don't care about high settings, if its decently playable I'm good. As long as "i7" means a first gen i7 and not an unspecific more recent i7 but I can't see why it would.

Ha!
My money's on Arkham Knight.

Actually given the fact that it is running on EU3 Jalloppy car edition (aka UE3 with tons of tacked on late gen tech) I expect it to run poorly too and have horrible hitching. UE3 does not scale up well.

I've got:

i5 3570K (ivy bridge) @ 3,4 Ghz
GTX 680 @ 2GB VRAM
16GB RAM

It worked fine for Shadow of Mordor playing on high (with shadows on medium) even though the req were 4GB VRAM. Hoping that's the case here as well. Rather not upgrade until there are more and cheaper 6-8GB VRAM options.

Yes, but 2GB of VRAM will mean sacrifices in plenty of areas. The wording suggests 4GB is necessary for console parity in terms of effects and assets.

Do effects get affected that much by VRAM? A fair number of console games have had effects toned down or removed where as I have been able to push them on my 2GB card.

All the fuss over Shadows of Mordor have not really transpired for me. I am running a mix of high/ultra (including DOF and tessellation) with high textures at 60fps for the most part.

I am aware that going further into the future will incur more issues.
