EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

They really should have had all demonstrations on saturday night and only have the main six games on sunday. Starting an hour or two earlier would also help.

I agree, why not just have the tekken, injustice etc. on a separate day. It killed the hype watching that Snoop Dogg thing right before Marvel.

Just a little quip about Mahvel.

First of all, congrats to Champ for winning it all. Secondly, I have to give all the credit in the world to Chris G. for this tournament. He ran a ridiculous gauntlet through top 8 to get to losers final. He beat (and really outplayed) Justin Wong, beat the man who sent him to losers in the first place, Flocker, and beat one of the most talented fighting game players in the world in Combofiend. Then he played Champ in an amazing FT3 set. I know alot of people criticized his raw tag decision to lose the set, but cmon. He had a million ideas and strategies running through his head in that 1 second and probably went straight to muscle memory in tagging to save Morrigan. I personally think Chris G. is the best Marvel player in the world and will always consider him a favorite to win. Also, props to Infrit for blowing it up too. Never will I sleep on him again!

Last thing: Dieminion is my psuedo AE Evo champ*. The 2 matches he lost to were the most unstoppable force in Evo history, and Gamerbee, who had to resort to counter picking to win!!

If you want 3/5 Grand Finals for KOF to continue, I think they're going to need to shave down to at least Top 6 the day before.

Gamerbee, who had to resort to counter picking to win!!
Not sure if you're trolling or mixing him up w/ Infiltration.

This.

It was Infiltration that picked Gouken to fight him right?. Gamerbee always picked Adon from what i remembered.

Gouken isn't a counterpick to Guile.

looking at the schedule, I honestly think one of the biggest problems for EVO running super late was Marvel. I get that people like the 3/5 format, but grand finals took 30 minutes alone iirc. I don't know the exact start and end times, but I see 1.5 hrs were given to Marvel, anyone know how long it actually took?

If you were not amazed at the master screen control by MAD's Duo Lon then you need to get your fighting game credentials checked.

KOF was super hype!

I know I'm late but this.

KOF stole the show on Sunday, an absolutely amazing finals.

I really wish there were big KOF tournaments between now and next EVO, so we can get more KOF beasts instead of watching Bala run over the usual crew.

around 2 hours for Marvel. Around 3 for KOF but like others are saying even SCV started a half hour later and SFxTekken started an hour later.

I don't know what exhibitions they will have next year, but if they have 2 main stage set-ups to cut out the button checks, and actually get started at 10am next year, it should be better I think.

And ban fatalities ;)

With an hour and a half allotted for Marvel, that means it also was running late. I got to the ballroom at 8:30am, so when SC5 started around 10:30 I was a bit nervous. SFXT running top 3 helped things out a lot though. Wasn't SFXT only like... 45 minutes? So between SC5 and SFXT it was only 2:45 taken up of an allotted 3.5 hrs. It sounds like the things that really pushed things back by the special presentations, people not moving out of the isles during grand finals which delayed the entire tournament a few times and so on.

I agree about the fatalities.
I thought that last year it was considered bad taste, this year we had people doing them left and right and even looking up the move lists.

Having to look up the move is pretty bad. I can't imagine needing to look up the input for any character I play in any fighting game.

Well I think it was funny, ESPECIALLY when the guy took time to look at the move list!

I was like 'NOOOooo! He's not doing this!' but it was funny, adding salt to the salt, that's EVO! :D

There was that guy who looked at the move list and then choked the fatality, that was just baaaad.

Well the fatalities aren't part of the actual match so why bother remembering it when you have to remember the specials moves and strings (many of which aren't intuitive)?

If I remember correctly things were even or Die was winning until Infil switched to Gouken and utterly bodied him.

At SB until now, Infil has only used Gouken vs Dieminion. He beat him in a FT7 7-0. Then he beat him 2-0 during the tournament. If you add in the 2-0 during EVO, he has a 11 game win streak against Dieminion right now.

When I played UMK3 as a kid, I knew the input for every single fatality, babality, and animality for every single character in the game. I find it hard not to learn these things while playing normally. It puzzles my mind.

No AE team tourneys this year :(

So many great moments like Kazunoko making everyone free, proceeded by Kindevu bringing bitter salt to HeadKrones with his own medicine.

On commentary they were speaking of Gouken as though he was an actual counterpick to Guile due to his ability to neutralize Guile's fireball game.

Should I feel bad to join the tourney for EVO next year just for the goody items I'll receive? Although I completely suck at the game.

(Shirts, Glasses, etc)?

If you're planning on going to EVO next year because you want to be there, you might as well enter the tourney just for the experience of it. Free swag is cool too.

How would learning the stuff that only is discovered by mashing button combinations be considered the norm for competitive purposes? I would think run cancels, kara jabs, relaunches, the various dial-in combos would be higher priority for UMK3. Even more so now that some of the strings have a built in mid/low to them.

Sigh. First, it's not an issue of priority - it doesn't take a lot of commitment to figure this stuff out. Second, when a good player learns a character, that player learns everything about the character, even the stuff that is considered useless.

VvV dropped their fighting game division (Reo, CD Jr, RTD and Romance).

It's sounds like they were upset that the fighters didn't wear the VvV t-shirts and do interviews. Makes sense to be upset about that.

Infiltrations play against Die was smart as shit. He knows that with akuma, he may be compelled to go in, much to his detriment as Dieminions defense is top fucking notch. With gouken he doesn't have to worry about sub par health and he can force die to rushdown. Infiltrations use of normals is so good though, much like Die's. Some damn good street fighter that match was.
