EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

I'm not offended at all lol. It's just that, it's the internet. People talk about things there. Do you want people to stop talking about it because you are a part of it or something? What does scolding us do?

I just don't see your point.

There are some wacky ass post in this thread since evo has been over.

It happens at the end of every tournament thread I swear!

Then what was the point of you replying to what I wrote? Just trying to take a shot at me? And then you compare me, someone who helps make the tournaments you like to watch even possible, with a cry-baby developer. And for what?

You have nothing to contribute here, so stop talking.

Right, because making a follow up comment on something another poster replied to is the same as me going into a 3 page discussion about what's wrong with the fighting game community.

Did I offend you, princess? You proved my point already. AND you already sound like you're part of the problem I was talking about. So what have you done for the community? Let's start comparing resumes.
Have you ever watched ESPN? CNN?

There's Monday morning quarterbacking all over the place. Stop acting like it's somehow endemic to the FGC. Just ignore it if you don't like it.

It just seems like you by you scolding us you are trying to get us to stop. Which isn't happening.

Oh I see. It's entitlement. We don't have the "right" to talk about your precious community because we're not part of it directly?

RC is a very passionate individual in the scene. The stuff he is talking about is something a lot of the veterans have noticed. People getting more excited about being Hollywood as opposed to getting better at the games themselves.

I understand where he is coming from.

I OWE NOTHING. We were drinking sir, you were too busy doing pushups or something. lol

Sorry for not being around much on the last night. We were pretty fucked up. lol

I'm always doing pushups.

No worries dood, was fun seeing you guys out there.

At the end of the day people want to see great gameplay. If some people like the drama hype who cares. If the players can still keep the quality of gameplay high and amazing let them have fun. Look at Fchamp, smart ass, shit talker, goofs around on his own stream, AND HE'S THE EVO CHAMP. Kinda shits all over the whole omg we gotta be super serious korean starcraft players grinding all day. Let's not forget about Floe and the whole BOSHY IWBTG stuff as well. Come on now.

Acting like you are better than everyone when trying to get your point across only drives you further away from getting your point across. This is why he compared you to dennis

They want to be entertained. Great gameplay will do it. Incredible crowd energy will do it. Floe will do it. Filipino Champ playing the heel will do it.

And yes, some people just want to be attention whores. But that's the case w/ life. (I'm a competitive M:TG player and we have our fair share of "HEY LOOK AT ME I WANT ATTENTION" types. It's annoying, but people are people, and you're not going to change them just by insulting other posters over the internet.

Lmao is it really Dr. Doom's 50th birthday today? Winning EVO is the best early birthday present ever.

We got Spideys and Thors at The Break this week. DAT EVO EFFECT.

Shit talking has always been a part of the scene. I'm fully aware of Dark Prince, Dark Geese (not really a shit talker but still annoying for the SNK community), 10k MvC2 money matches, and all of the other drama associated with the scene. I don't recall anyone saying that it should be super serious and you jumping to that conclusion makes no sense.

Oh I see. It's entitlement. We don't have the "right" to talk about your precious community because we're not part of it directly?

I listed a few issues I have in broad strokes, but it appears you think I'm attacking you. Do you think you're part of the group I'm talking about?

The FGC itself has always been based on face-to-face competition. That competition has changed with online connectivity, and that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that the roots of this community as a whole exist based around the idea of gathering together. But now, unlike before, there's a subculture of people who don't seem to actually give a fuck about the community, and treat it like it's wrestling. And that's some serious bullshit. And now the fighting game community is churning out "pop stars" like the fucking disney channel. It's not about the games, it's not about the community, it's about becoming internet famous. And that shit will become a cancer to the scene.

I get that there are people who simply can't come out. They have things that come up and it just isn't possible for them. But the group of people I have an issue with are the same ones who are fueling this pop star shit, and are the ones that will NEVER contribute anything to the community. Ever. And if you're part of that group, then you're part of the problem.

Are you really having a "back in the days", "the current generation is ruining everything" argument about the FGC? Hahaha. It's great that you host tournaments, but you do not control the flow of the scene. No one does. If it's going in a particular direction, it's because the vast majority of people want it to. You might not like it, I might not like it, but what can you actually do about it?

Three groups in my eyes.

Actual tournament people

Online fighters

Stream monster offshoots who spend their time making brazzers photoshops

Put them in a ring and lower the cage. I'd pay to see that.

No, you're putting words in my mouth because you obviously haven't read what I wrote. Things evolve, that's how it is. As a person directly involved in the scene, and having been a part of it since I was a kid, the direction it has taken bothers me because the direction the FGC is going currently isn't in the best interests of the community. The best I can do about the direction is keep being involved in tournaments, for better or for worse, until things change, or until the community collapses again and we end up in another "dark period." I want the next Final Round to be better than the last, and that's what I'm going to work towards. That's what I can do.

How many tournaments have you been to, out of curiosity? How many majors? Have you organized anything?

EVO was bigger than ever. Tournaments nationwide are getting exposure they never had before. What exactly is going wrong again?

I feel like this is in some ways, an inevitable consequence of sponsorship. The more attention a player can draw to him or herself, the more their brand gets exposure. While most sponsored players are pretty well-behaved and just focused on getting better and winning, you will always have some that want to play heel/hero and become a pop star like you say. Personally I think the number is pretty small, but I'm viewing this from afar in Japan so it might be different on an everyday basis working with these dudes.

Anyways, y'all should just play VF. No drama there (well, at least not yet), just a focus on gameplay.

Pretty much everyone is going to go to the drawing board after EVO. All the Japanese players have said that they are changing up their teams even Abegen and Chou. It's about time MarlinPie looked into it too, I felt that was really his biggest weakness in that he is a 3 character man and once Viper died the team was pretty free to hard zoning.

EVO showed one very important thing for Marvel and that's you need to be comfortable playing more than 3 characters if you want to succeed. Counter picking is potent now and since the game is now 3/5 you can benefit a lot from it. This is a stark contrast from last year's EVO where only Viscant was counter picking people and he was basically just rotating 2 characters max. There are way too many strategies, styles of play and characters to worry about and I haven't seen a singular team that is able to handle everything in the game yet. FChamp might have won EVO but his entire team could've been jacked up by a Hawkeye team and if Infrit counter picked him with Hawkeye instead of Sentinel then things would've been different.

Sounds just like what I thought you were saying.

How many tournaments have you been to, out of curiosity? How many majors? Have you organized anything?
I went to one tournament. I'm in the midwest (Michigan for 10 years, Chicago for 1), there's not a lot out here unless I want to drive an hour away and an hour back. The tournament I went to was...well, let's just say it wasn't my cup of tea. Major respect to the guy who organized it, but two hours of traveling to play a handful of matches was not my idea of a good time on a weekday night. I would have went to UFGT this year (I just moved to Chicago), but it was during the weekend before my MA thesis paper was due - that obviously takes priority.

Have I organized anything? No. I'd love to one day when I have money for that kind of thing, but it's just not happening right now, when I have $120K in debt to take care of, want to own a home and have children, etc. The FGC is great, and I'd love to be a part of it, but I won't pretend it's on the top of my priority list.

I worked on this as I had time for the last year and a half:
http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-ultimate-dormammu-thread.141974/

It might not be the kind of thing you consider to be a contribution to the FGC, but it's something I've put a lot of effort into that many people have benefited from. Not everyone can contribute by hosting tournaments, unfortunately. I'm primarily an online warrior. It would be great to change that, and I plan to go to a Marvel tournament out in Brookfield this summer, but right now it's just how it is.

It was a hypothetical "I might not like it". I started playing fighting games seriously when Marvel came out in February of 2011. I don't take fighting games seriously enough as a "community" to be upset.
