Evolution 2016 IOT2I Final day Final game - SFV Top 8 live on ESPN2

Hope Justin makes it to top 8 next year. Really wanted the OHOHOHO in the crowds.

Also, having the announcers broadcast over the arena speakers was a mistake. It caused them to constantly mute the crowds to avoid the echo. Who came up with this horrible idea? The crowd noise is what adds to the hype for streams. Such a basic thing to forget about.

And splitting up commentating between stream and ESPN made no sense. Should've been one broadcast for its debut.

So from what I've watched my favourites top 8's were:

- Smash 4
- SFV (the crowd was amazing, probably helped a lot)
- and surprisingly I enjoyed MKXL despite usually avoiding MK because I can't stomach the gore from the fatalities(yes, laugh all you want >.>)

Melee was alright, but Hungrybox winning wasn't the most exciting (kinda expected at this point almost. He's godlike now)
Marvel: It's just for me really hard to follow on screen what's happening . I'm sure I'd get it more if I played the game. Colours, super long combo's, flashyness.

Haven't watched GG and Pokkén yet.

I just can't get over how much EVO 2016 felt like a roaring success. Seeing Mike Ross and Gootecks as ESPN anchors was a sight to behold. And throughout the day there were just a ton of riveting matches, as usual. The world needs to embrace fighting games.

Evo needs to do what tennis majors do and pipe the commentary over radio or whatever and give out earpieces or something. It would solve the problem they are having.

idk if this would be expensive though.

There's still time for Justin. We still have quite a few premier events around the globe before the Capcom Cup Finale.

jesus if you make it out to evo do you really need commentary to tell you what's going on

commentary for the live crowd is dumb af if only for the players themselves having to hear over the loudspeakers what their current mindset is halfway through a set lol

Yea, that was weird. Did they do that before? It was hilarious how they were saying who was bad or whatever to their faces, literally. lol

I doubt the average audience member has the same insight as the commentators. When I watch a sporting event live, I usually do miss the commentary, even if I know the sport well.

The players can just wear headphones if they don't want to hear it, like some already do.

Yep I wouldn't have it at all. But some people in here that were there said they liked it. So I dunno, that's the only way you can do it without reverb problems.

So I went through the archives and checked about how long the Top 8s lasted:

Tekken 7: 2h:07m
Smash Wii U: 2h:30m
Pokken: 2h:55m
Killer Instinct: 2h:10m
MKX: 2h:30m
UMVC3: 2h:03m
Xrd Revelator: 2h:00m
Melee: 2h29m
SFV: 3h:02m

2 hours for Smash 4 and Pokken definitely wasn't enough time.

If you have PlayStation Vue on a free trial or some such, you should be able to watch the ESPN2 broadcast that way.

This year's Melee finals didn't feel as excruciatingly long as last year. Could be the lack of Smash 4 beforehand, could be how hype the Armada/HBox match was this year.

Well, it took about the same time this year as it did last year.

If Melee should be cut to 3 stocks, does that mean Smash 4 should be cut to 1.5 stocks? Kappa

last year's Melee top 8 also took 2.5 hours

Anybody know where you can watch the ESPN broadcast? Maybe somebody torrented it? Watch the twitch stream last night and it was fine but I wanted to see if they did a good job showcasing e-sports to the regular joe.

CEO was epic.

This year's SF showing at Evo was pretty weak, heck I would go so far as to say that this Evo is one of my least favorite overall.

Guilty Gear and KOF were hype but other than that it was meh for the most part.

Killer Instinct Top 8 made me lose my mind this year and last year. It's the game I have the most fun watching but almost no fun playing!

Just found out that my mom and sisters saw Evo on their TV listing and decided to see what it was about and watched the entire top 8.

They're now Fuudo fans.

I wish I could articulate how surreal and amazing this is to me.

MKX, Marvel, Tekken and both Smash games had great finals. Xrd and SFV put me to sleep early.

Also wasn't expecting Aris on for MKX, but glad that he was.

ESPN also went well from what I saw because they were piggybacking off the existing production. Sucks that SFV put me to sleep so I could watch more. Hilarious to see people including gamers criticize EVO being on ESPN 2 like they watch ESPN 2 at night to begin with. Before the EVO broadcast, they were showing a meaningless summer league game.

Not looking forward to the post-Evo lull...

CEO in August is not such a bad idea afterall.

Evo Japan at TGS sounds good too.

There's not much of a lull like in years past because of the pro tour lasting throughout the year. Things pick right back up in 2 weeks.

CEO is better in June leading up into EVO. They can probably get a bigger venue in August because Florida in August is not as appealing.

Won't they just be announcing more details about it at TGS?

Just more details are being announced at TGS.

Man, still not a fan of Jacks redesign. The glowing parts are too distracting and I'm not a fan of the red hair.

That's not a redesign, it's the same design from Tekken 5 just with some highlights of various colors emanating from the contours.

Oh, I know it's nothing like Hwoarang but I still find the change unappealing. Should have kept it subdued.

evo was great, but am I the only one who enjoyed ceo more this year? I feel evo sf v top 8 was really weak compared to the ceo one.

CEO top 8 & EVO top 8 for SFV were spectacular. The only difference between the two was Infiltration - but he was honestly having a harder time in Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, & Grand Finals that made it more interesting to watch. It's super boring when Infiltration is just rolling over his opponents.
