Sure. But day one anyway! The PS5 pro will never happen because their isn’t a reason for it to exist. The only reason we got a PS4 pro was due to 4K. The PS5 pro doesn’t have a strong enough value proposition for it to be marketable. 4K/60 FPS with RT is the only benefit I can see with a pro and that’s not enough for most people to want to buy into the console.
Heck, we barely even have games that is pushing the current PS5 lol
Do it. Xbox Series Pro too.
I doubt I'll even get Xbox pro. But if other people want to, go ahead and enjoy.
Console gaming is the only product line in the world you get whiners saying keep it same for 7 years. All because they are broke and dont like other gamers buying into a better spec system.
I doubt any of them care if people upgrade their phone, PC or even change to a better car when the lease is up. People seem to love options for products........... except the console crybaby.
Just think of it. Techie products are the broad stroke kinds of products that advance the fastest. You arent going to get a lot of innovation in microwaves or boxes of table salt. Yet, for consoles some gamers actually want locked in specs for 7 year spans.
lol
It's not a fact. The only actual fact here is that having 60 FPS modes is the standard for current gen only exclusive titles as well.
At no point have I said or even suggested that current gen consoles can do a 60 FPS version of The Matrix Tech Demo. But that's just what The Matrix is: A Tech Demo and a Cross Promotion piece at that. You're not going to see a substantial improvement in visual fidelity in most games over the generation, because Budget has a way bigger influence on the scope of a game than hardware does.
And graphical and IQ issues. To fix performance issues?
Plot twist: It's not a "pro" console... it's a "lite" version ala Series S
Developers push boundaries within the budget and demands of the consumer audience. If the demand is for 60 fps modes, then that's what is going to happen. And that is exactly what is happening. Again, current gen only games are shipping with 60 fps modes.Developers will try to push boundaries, they always do. At the moment, due to cross gen titles, the consoles don't have anything new in rendering as far as I know, except for the odd ray tracing implementation here and there.
Your statement will only be true if collectively all developers decide to stop innovating and stop implementing new features like Nanite, which is very unlikely. Budget won't change your rendering pipeline.
A 60 FPS PS5 PRO makes sense for the increased rendering requirements.
Developers push boundaries within the budget and demands of the consumer audience. If the demand is for 60 fps modes, then that's what is going to happen. And that is exactly what is happening. Again, current gen only games are shipping with 60 fps modes.
It has become the norm and the standard. That's not going to change.
Saying that "budget won't change your rendering pipeline" suggest a misunderstanding on the effects of budget on game development.
The idea that developers are suddenly going to exclude a basic feature that has become the standard just because a marginal amount of the user base owns a pro is absurd.
Fortunately the industry doesnt give a shit about your display of choice. No thanks. 30fps is a pain in the ass especially on OLED TV's.
They are coming and the only way this trend stops is if they don't sell enough of them to make them worth their investmentFor those questioning the need for Pro models.
We still have plenty of games with fidelity modes that top out at 30fps or at best 40fps. I don't know about you, but I'd love to play these games with full graphical fidelity and not have to sacrifice 60fps.
Think of all those uncapped VRR modes where a Pro could really take advantage of.
Also, if you sell your current PS5 at the right time you could easily get at least $300 to put towards the Pro. Also, a Pro doesn't suddenly make the vanilla PS5 worthless. Did the vanilla PS4 suddenly stop working when the PS4 Pro released, of course not.
Some people clearly don't like the idea of feeling "left out", well that is a you problem. Instead of whining about it start saving now and sell your current PS5 when its super obvious that the PS5 Pro is incoming.
They are coming and the only way this trend stops is if they don't sell enough of them to make them worth their investment
And yes people who say there aren't any games pushing these current consoles seem to forget we can't have fidelity and 60 fps in big games
Heck give me a somewhat decent looking performance mode of 120fps in Spiderman 2 and Wolverine
The thing about upgrading PC parts, cell phones, TVs etc.... is that it's not all done in a vacuum with one starting date. It's like they forget why enthusiast PC gamers upgrade every couple of years. They want to keep FPS in check without having to sacrifice visual flair too much.
It was literally not possible to make a Pro model with the TDP and Console size restrictions using the current 7nm node process. The thing would have been gigantic and have cost way more in 2020 than what the Pro would cost in 2024.Because they cheaped out the consoles.. they should already aimed for better and more expensive, scalpers prooved that the 400/500 mark is a illusion... this gen got a small leap while trying to push RT ... we have phones beeing bought every year on the thousands and gpus sky rocketing either... the age of 400 consoles is over if this industry is too keep moving forward technologically... at least as the only option ... ps5 and xbox series x should have been the "S" consoles ... with a pro version as a second more competent sku
The thing about upgrading PC parts, cell phones, TVs etc.... is that it's not all done in a vacuum with one starting date.
People upgrade at different times, and if someone is feeling like buying today they get what's available today. in 2025, other people feel it's time to upgrade, so they upgrade then and sees whats available then. The person in 2025 has the option to pick todays model or the future model. Thats how life works with every product. Consoles are probably the only thing that has this stodgy "lets lock everyone in for 7 years, except for slim models and maybe a storage boost". PS4 Pro and One X came and went. Some people upgraded, some didn't. The console market didn't crash to the ground.
Having such a locked in mentality also prevents some people from buying at all. It gets to a point when a generation hits the halfway point or more, sales drop as people wait for the next gen to launch. They'll sit tight and wait. When you got a flow of new products coming out (like cell phones and TVs), if someone is itching for new one, they know there's new products all the time so you might as well buy now or next year. You dont sit on the sidelines for 3 years waiting for a big jump. You just jump in now (or soon).
Thats why console sales have such a roller coaster sales trend. While other tech gadgets are smoother in sales charts. They can upgrade at any time as new gear pops up frequently taking advantage of latest specs.
Yup.Not to mention they will likely lower the price of the base PS5 "Slim" unit in preperation of the Pro so both SKUs are priced right. Its literally nobody loses strategy. Those who want best performance from their console will have that option and those looking to get into current gen on the budget can wait for a cheaper slim model.
The last couple of Playstation console purchases only cost me $100 to upgrade each time. I was able to sell my White PS4 for $300 and my PS4 Pro for $400 (During a time when Pro stock was limited).
Consider the Pro upgrade the true next gen thenwe don't even have fucking next gen games.
Yeah .. thats why I dont like a Pro mid gen refresh that costs 500 dollars or 600 dollars and use it for 4 years... I would buy it ... but for me is much better to buy a ps5 pro right out of the bat in the start of the generation for 800/900 hundred and enjoy for the 8 years ...It was literally not possible to make a Pro model with the TDP and Console size restrictions using the current 7nm node process. Running PS4 ports at 8K wow.we don't even have fucking next gen games.

The size and production and etc.. well .. thats for the engineers to decide whats better ... if its huge well its huge..if eat up energy it eats... its about given the CHOICE...
Running PS4 ports at 8K wow.
Was just kidding should have a put a smiley in there.99.9% of people interested in a Pro are not thinking about 8K. We are thinking about more games hitting closer to 120fps in high performance modes and 60fps in their 4K Fidelity modes.
Yeah sure..but you went from 699 to 1000+ ... if they can give us the ps5 at 450.. imagine what they can do with say 800 ... there is some middle ground ... and sure is better them spending 500 for a gimped machine that 2 years in and is already struggling to mantain 60 fps... as an enthusiast you will see in 2024 that juicy pro and pay 600 for it .. (500 ps5 + 600 ps5 pro) ...Is not better to pay 800/900 at the start and use it for the whole generation ?There is still a price limit even Playstation enthusiasts would be willing to pay. You would get a lot less people willing to fork over $1000+ for a PS5 Pro over say a $600 Pro.
I'm in the enthusiast camp and even I wouldn't pay more than say $699 for a PS5 Pro.

And to be clear.. all I want is choice.. 2 skus.. one premium and one regular ... nobody looses ... and the premium will be as a vr2 , edge controller etc.. for enthusiasts who want to spend and get more
Never heard of these sites in my life.
Gamecube is the only debatable one, as it was not as popular as the PS2 and Xbox at the time.
Xbox and N64 were not flops, Xbox did really well for being in the market for 4 years as a brand new console in the industry with no prior recognition.
Yeah I just had to play elden ring using the ps4 code for maintaining 60fps on the ps5.. so we have to agree to disagree here unfortunatelyI mean if they sold a PS5 Pro in 2020 it would have likely been closer to that $1000 price than say $699 for a 2024 release.
No it would not be better for me if a Pro existed from the start, because I wouldn't want some gigantic beast of a console. I mean the standard PS5 is already big enough as is lol. Also, tech advances, so that Pro model at launch would likely be missing features that a Pro model released a couple yrs into the generation would have.
I personally like the mid gen refresh strategy. I have gotten great use of my PS5 since launch and I'll definitely be ready for an upgrade in 2024.
They really aren't though, most are still upscaled 4K and those few games with native 4K modes are limited to crappy 30fps or if we are lucky 40fps limits. And all games are already releasing in 4k...
I see. personally, I don't feel like we're ready from a hardware standpoint to prioritize 4k in the first place...because we're just getting ps4 games in a higher res thanks to so much focus on 4k/60fps.They really aren't though, most are still upscaled 4K and those few games with native 4K modes are limited to crappy 30fps or if we are lucky 40fps limits.
You also say people are barely getting these things, but PS5 has already sold well past 30 million units. Considering the supply constraints its actually not tracking that far behind what the PS4 sold at the same time frame.
I own a nice PC and both PS5 and Series X and I would be all over pro model consolesFor...what exactly? Especially if many of the exclusive titles are coming to PC. And all games are already releasing in 4k...
People barely started getting these things in the first place, and 8k shouldn't be a priority at all (we need to stop prioritizing resolution over pushing polygons, a.i., physics)
We also need some generational console exclusives before any of this.
You'd really have to be a owner of only consoles to buy this lol Not a big fan of this model at all.
Well good thing the world isnt full of me then lol if it was this model would've been scrapped.I own a nice PC and both PS5 and Series X and I would be all over pro model consoles

To me it's like preferring uncharted 2 in 4k over uncharted 4 in 1080p. Uncharted 4 will still be a more next gen experience than the former despite the resolution. Another example is God of war 2 in 4k vs God of War 3 in 1080p.
Devs aren't suddenly developing around a pro console, so we don't exactly get leaps because of it. I just feel this business model sets the wrong priorities.
I play a lot of Hell Let Loose on the PS5 and that game alone would justify my purchase of a pro console with how poorly it runs at times on the PS5Well good thing the world isnt full of me then lol if it was this model would've been scrapped.
I could maybe see if we had an ass load of generational exclusives. But I cant justify giving them more money for whats been a dry generation thus far in comparison to previous gens.
I play a lot of Hell Let Loose on the PS5 and that game alone would justify my purchase of a pro console with how poorly it runs at times on the PS5
I know its poorly optimized and thats a whole other problem but if possible just let me throw more power at it
And I wont play shooters on PCs with how many more cheaters there are there
No clue honestlyNot sure if you could answer, but is Zen 4 architecturally BC with Zen 2? Just curious if Sony would just use Zen 2 on a smaller node or if Zen 4 is possible without breaking games.
