Fun fact:
Clinton would have lost the popular vote of every election going back to and including 2004 wih the numbers she's at.
Not all Republicans are racist, sexist homophobes? Maybe not, but almost as many of them voted for the explicit version of it as they did the "respectable Republicans" like Romney.
Look, I know you're probably all bored of my shit by now, but I like all of you. You're good people. And like...while we don't necessarily agree politically, I can believe you all have your hearts in the right place and just want what's best for society. But anything other than a strong leftist movement is not placed to do that and I just want to try to convince even just one or two of you to look into leftist movements and politics like democratic socialism and libertarian communism. Because centrist liberalism is failing around the world, and there needs to be a united front against far right extremism which liberalism isn't equipped to deal with.
*sigh*
I'm just terrified about the way the world is going. Genuinely starting to think none of us will live past like 2030
my issue with your opinion here isn't that I disagree with your politics, its that I think most of America disagrees with your politics
personally I preferred Bernie in the primary(got sick the day of the primary unfortunately) but thought Hillary would be more electable. I was definitely wrong about that but given we just had two terms of a similar candidate, the issue appears more to be with Hillary than her policies. Of course that could also mean that charisma alone could push forward more left policies but I wouldn't count on it.
really I don't understand why you talk about appealing to more people and then suggest becoming more extreme. wouldn't more people exist in the more moderate spectrum? I might be wrong but I just feel like you're really reading our politics incorrectly and making the wrong conclusions
See this is why so many independents and people on the fence voted trump. Because people like RNH are saying all the republicans are racist monsters and then you look at the people you know who are voting Trump and you think hey, that guy actually seems pretty okay and has been a good friend to me. So it makes it sound like all the trump hating is lies or at best the needless concern of overly worried people.
theres a few things to this
1. i'm convinced everyone is to a degree racist and sexist and from my experience republicans tend to be a bit worse in this regard
2. but, yeah you're absolutely right that that you don't get someone to agree with you by namecalling (however accurate) and such. the issue with it though is its a reaction. minorities get treated a certain way and feel the need to condemn their oppressors and like to hear allies sticking up for them. Theres definitely a time and place for it though and I definitely couldn't tell you where to draw that line
3. that said rnh was right about Hillary having low numbers in the election. and that was still enough to win the popular vote. I think that had more to do with it than people shaming other people and stuff. I would imagine it had an impact but like other things like sexism, its just added to the pile of things gone wrong this election
