Just for the record, while I might disagree with some points RNJ explained, on Neogaf he has every right to express his opinion on the most important and sad political movement since, well, a long time. Just because one doesn't give a shit about international politics or those of other countries, it's kinda mean and lacking respect to tell him he isn't supposed to either.

I'm sorry guys, but this really rubbed me the wrong way, especially since every thread about political idiots in the UK, Germany, Europe as a whole has LOTS of opinions from Americans who clearly don't know anything about even their own politics and obviously even less of international or regional politics.

To tell him pretty literally to go fuck himself with his opinion is something I didn't expect from this thread, and it kinda makes me not comment on a lot of things from now on as well. I know everyone's on edge, understandably so, but that was unwarranted.


Oh well.

Well just because some naive Americans jump into Euro topics that they don't know nearly enough about doesn't mean you should stoop to their level. I wouldn't dream of pretending I know how things work in Europe better than Europeans do. That doesn't mean I don't care, it means I recognize that European systems work differently than American systems do and that European people often have different wants than American people do.

It's incredibly insulting.

edit: look, I have no intention of estranging anyone nor causing drama. It's not like that. I just think if you have an incendiary opinion then you should be kind about how you say it, actually able to back it up with solid reasoning, and also open to criticism.

Actually lots of schools have the american voting system as a subject alongside the european systems.
I am quite informed about the american system, I won't say every European is, but it is very obviout that many Americans that try to comment on EU topics have no clue about the system here and so I assume many of you don't learn about them in school?

Also I would say the results of the votes in the united states affect the whole world more than let us say the one in Germany.

I wouldn't have guessed that with the sheer volume of europeans who are confused about the electoral college system, but I believe you. And you're right that we don't receive a proper education about the governance of other countries.

Having said that, Robert has a history of expressing a hilariously bad understanding of what American people want and using such hyperbole as to alienate most people who might otherwise listen to him. It's not a matter of whether or not people are allowed to express their opinions. It's a matter of how you choose to conduct yourself.

Every time we talk politics in this thread it gets messy and people are upset. If you're going to willingly engage that then you should know what you're getting into. Plus, as DrM pointed out, there are fourteen other topics on the front page where you can discuss Trump and socialism's place in America as you like.

I don't want anyone in here to feel like their voice isn't being heard. I appreciate that you and Buf are trying to smooth things over. But if you can't play nice then don't play at all. Thanks ♥

I don't hate him. I think he is a great person, but if there's one thing I hate it's people who think they know what's best for everyone, and I am emotional and angry in general.
