F1 2015 is looking FANTASTIC

F1 2012 was the only Codemasters F1 title I tried, and I enjoyed it. If this is even a bit better, I'll probably buy it.

No modern F1 or racing game made me spend as much time as Grand Prix 3/4 though.

I'm interested. No career mode is kind of a bummer.

I may just wait until a BF deal unless the reviews just blow me away because the release in the U.S. is just six weeks to Forza and ESO has its hooks in me right now.

in nearly every racing game I've played including gt, fora and the other f1 games the AI seems to always brake super early and you can just pass them by late braking, and it's safe to do so most of the time.

The behavior in Codemaster's F1 series is extreme though. Most car's don't even try to overtake each other in the first lap. Usually, first laps, and especially the first corners, should be full of cars driving side by side, breaking late, trying to overtake each other, leaving no space for you to just go full Grosjean and dive past half the field. But in these F1 games, they just drive in a single line, holding each other up.

DriveClub's AI does this pretty good. They are relentless and don't break that early, even in when driving in a ruck.

And no career mode which means a no buy until it's cheap for me.

Where di you get that from? The article doesn't mention anything like that.

In fact, quite the contrary:

Which ties into F1 2015's other new feature: the ability to pick any driver from the F1 field and do a full campaign with them. It's hard to get excited about a feature that really should have been present from day one of Codemasters' F1 tenure back in 2009, though. Elsewhere, it feels like a stretch to call the new Pro Championship mode - a career offshoot that locks players to helmet cam while removing all assists and the HUD - a feature. It's an option, and one that's always been there from the off for players so inclined.

That's not a career mode, that's just a season. You used to be able to create yourself and then start with a team and get offers to move.

oh yeah corners in codies F1 games are mostly trains, qualifying last was ok because in the first few corners you could be half way up the grid.

Definitely interested, but will wait for the reviews before pulling the trigger. Project CARS has been effectively been scratching that racing itch in the meantime however.

I used to be a huge F1 fan but my interest has diminished over the past five seasons. This game looks good though, and if 60fps is a lock then I might just bite.

Any word on wheel support for the PS4 version?

The start of the season?

The cars get revealed about four weeks before the start of the season, and absolutely nobody knows their performance levels until the first qualifying session - and it tends to be up and down for the first few races.

I used to be disappointed with Codemasters' October release last gen, but July is much better.

They could release at the start based on previous season and adjusting a bit acccording to pre season testing. Then update. Wouldn't be that accurate but I think fans would be ok. Also from business point, I'd expect stronger sales if the game released at the Friday prior to first Grand Prix.

I love F1, but I never bought the games because I thought they weren't that great. The last few years they have been changing my mind. I'm excited for the new one and will definitely pick it up when it comes out.

Nah, we'd bitch either way.

F1 2015: Our Honda engines crap out as much as the real thing!

The AI's had an overhaul, and it certainly puts up a fight. It's also fairly realistic: Maldonado swiped me off the circuit in one of my races around Singapore.

lol poor Maldonado can't ever catch a break.

As Hasney said, that's not a career mode. In previous games you were able to input your own name and play 3-5 seasons in a car that got better or worse over time. I've been following the development of the game with the bits and pieces of info that they have put out since I am really interested in F1 games and bought them all since 2010. The news of no career was a killer for me since I play that mode most often.

It hasn't really worked properly, and it appears that Codemasters removed it, so you have no choice but to play season modes with one of the current drivers.

Devs confirming no career mode:
In 2015 you can only play as a licensed driver. You'll understand why when you see the broadcast style presentation.

Edit: Looking at my game times, I put 300 hours into F1 2012, and 420 hours into F1 2013. I'm really going to miss no career mode :(

Some people hate them more than others. I though 2010 was good, and I put 100 hours into 2013.

They've had issues of course, and you'll never make everyone happy enough with the sim/arcade scale, but I have fun with them for what they are.

No where else offers the f1 action I want. Forza and even pcars dont touch stuff like regulations, pitting strategy, and the grid is full of the same car.

Isn't a career mode the most critical part to an F1 game? Working up from Marrissia to Merc GP is what most will want to do I thought?

Yep and it's something CM have done with F1 before. It's a pure regression step to the longevity of the game to not have it in.

I wont be buying it.

That's where I spent most my time, but you can make the jump quickly and it was never your car due to licensing anyways. I wanted a deeper mode than what we got. EA NASCAR games had you climbing the ranks from a local series earning sponsors

I just don't get how other licensed leagues are fine with deep career modes with fake people you make up. FOM doesn't want any of it apparently.

I'd even take the old PS2 games where you'd run at the pre-season test for a team like Minardi to earn your seat! I miss those games, FOM seemed a bit more forgiving with the licence back then.

Lack of career mode is a shame, but to be honest, I can't remember actually ever finishing a single season in any careers I started in the previous games because of my insistence of running 100% distance races...

Yeah, however it's 900p on XB1 to keep a respectable framerate (1080p on PS4). I can't remember where I read it but the framerate is unlocked on both platforms but will run at 60 for a lot of the time. I think it's mainly for their astounding wet weather effects that will put strain on the systems.
60? Wow!

Lack of career is disappointing, looks like I'll be waiting for the obligatory "codies price tumble" a few weeks after release.

I am actually completely ok with this decision, career progression etc. has never bothered me in racing games, I just want to race!

yeah, id wait a bit before getting too excited over licensed games, especially if you aren't an f1 fan to begin with.

I've never played a Formula One game before, and I know little to nothing about the sport

If you want to know more about Formula 1, I think the Alt+F1 podcast's pre-season timer episode from 2014 (big regulation changes in that year, so good starting point timing-wise) is a great way to start understanding the rules and some of the history.

Long time F1 fan Danny O'Dwyer of Gamespot explains the Formula 1 sport to complete newcomer Drew Scanlon of Giant Bomb.

Set a strong foundation with the first game in the new gen and then build on that in the years to come. That's all I can ask.

I'm debating on getting it for PC or PS4. :( I've sort of always gotten it for pc in the past but not sure this year. Anybody like to share their experience on console versions of the past?

I am really torn on this one. Too bad that they won't provide a demo. The handling will make it or break it for me.

With PC being the only place my old Driving Force GT gets any love, being able to do a few laps in a demo would be a nice test-bed before jumping in. Goodness knows I already have a backlog to get through.

Codemasters games are just dumb fun. It's like the McDonalds of racing games. It's good enough to pass the time but not enough to get me psyched. One of the first things I tried when I got my wheel was jump into F1 2014 and turned all the assists off. You can't even try to make the cars spin out. I understand it's only simcade but I'd like a little more realism, especially for an F1 game.

I'm probably still going to buy this.

What's wrong with these faces, lol.
